    Belterra Park - Race #1 - Post: 1:20pm - Maiden Claiming - 5.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $7,500 Class Rating: 71

    Rating: 4

    #6 BIG BOB KENNEDY (ML=7/2)

BIG BOB KENNEDY - I think the shorter trip will help this colt stay the trip.

Vulnerable Contenders: #3 HEART SHAPED BOX (ML=2/1), #8 VALID BLUE (ML=9/2), #4 MIZZING FRAZIER (ML=5/1),

HEART SHAPED BOX - The Brain tells me to keep away from ponies in sprint contests that haven't finished in the money in short distance events lately. That was simply not a very good display in the last clash. VALID BLUE - Speed kills. Plenty of zip in this race compromises this horse's dreams at winning. MIZZING FRAZIER - This animal doesn't have a winning temperament. Habitually finishes near the winner. This entrant hasn't been close at the finish line of late.

      Gulfstream Park West - Race #7 - Post: 4:37pm - Claiming - 7.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $17,000 Class Rating: 89

      Rating: 4

      #4 DREAMY MARTINI (ML=8/1)
      #2 LIL'S FAST BOY (ML=4/1)

DREAMY MARTINI - Biancone brings this gelding back into a race rather than a workout. He knows his gelding is on top of his game. Santana comes to ride again after getting to know the gelding in the last race. No needing to look any further. This horse has my money. Way too much pace. This gelding is in fine condition, having run a nice race on Sep 30th, finishing third. LIL'S FAST BOY - When a sprinter is back in a race less than 10 days after his last outing, it generally means he's fit. Taking a trip down the ladder based on class; has the class ability to make his presence felt. This thoroughbred collects a lot of dough per race around the track. I believe he can increase that total right here.

      Vulnerable Contenders: #3 GADSBY TAVERN (ML=5/2), #6 QUENANE (ML=3/1), #1 FUELEDBYDRAMA (ML=6/1),

GADSBY TAVERN - This gelding hasn't had any recent good fortune in short distance races. No picnic to bet on him in this race. QUENANE - Difficult to bet on this steed this time. Make him show you something in a short distance race before you play him in a race of 7 furlongs. FUELEDBYDRAMA - Only beat maiden claimers last race out. It's going to be very tough for this mount to repeat versus winners. Recorded a somewhat easily forgotten speed fig last time out in a $10,000 Maiden Claiming race on Sep 20th. Unlikely to see an improved performance off of that rating.

Top HatGUEST COMMENTARY: The Brain - DREAMY MARTINI - Has been racing regularly since a layoff. Based on my data, horses hit their peak cycle in their 3rd or 4th race back. Watch out for this horse in this race.

      STRAIGHT WAGERS:
Bet on #4 DREAMY MARTINI to win if you can get at least 5/2 odds

        The Walker Group Picks

        # 5 SHE'S A WARRIOR 9/5

        # 2 CITIZEN KITTY 5/2

        # 7 VICTRESS 9/2

SHE'S A WARRIOR has a competitive shot to take this race. The average class rating of 90 makes this entrant tough to beat. Has recorded reliable speed figures in dirt route races in the past. Gutierrez has an excellent return on investment over the past 30 days (+13) which should help players with this choice. CITIZEN KITTY - Has to be considered against this group displaying strong figures recently and an average speed rating of 95 under similar conditions. This conditioner has the most favorable ROI in this field with entries running at this distance and surface. VICTRESS - Could provide positive dividends based on strong recent speed figures with an average of 88.

              The Walker Group Picks

              # 4 EURAPOLLITICAL GIRL 5/2

              # 9 ONE CHORD SONG 6/1

              # 1 COTTON CLANCE 8/1

EURAPOLLITICAL GIRL has a respectable shot to take this race. Her 53 average has this filly with among the most favorable speed figures in this race. Could beat this group of horses given the 56 Equibase speed fig garnered in her last outing. A solid 77 avg class figure may give this filly a distinct class edge against this group. ONE CHORD SONG - This racer has to be played at the expected high odds. Seems to have a strong class edge based on the latest company kept. COTTON CLANCE - Will more than likely be one of the early speedsters of the bunch going into the midpoint of the race.

                Divisional Playoff; Houston leads 2-0

                Preview: Astros at Red Sox

                Gracenote
                Oct 7, 2017

The Boston Red Sox have not won a postseason contest since the clinching game of the 2013 World Series and are in danger of being swept out of the American League Division Series for the second straight October. The Red Sox will try to begin a climb out of a 2-0 hole in the best-of-five series when they host the Houston Astros in Game 3 on Sunday.

Boston finished second in the AL with a 3.70 ERA this regular season but surrendered eight runs in each of the first two ALDS games in Houston as starters Chris Sale and Drew Pomeranz combined to allowed 11 runs in seven innings and serve up five home runs. "These guys are all coming out swinging and swinging at a lot of stuff, being very aggressive, and every time we've made a mistake, they've made us pay for it," Pomeranz told reporters. The Astros, who will send Brad Peacock to the mound Sunday against the Red Sox's Doug Fister, led the majors with 896 runs scored in the regular season and every spot in the lineup provided at least one hit over the course of the first two games. "We have a number of guys that have contributed," Houston manager A.J. Hinch told reporters. "So obviously you're seeing what's possible when we link things together and the hitters start to feed off of one another. We have a lot of guys that are putting up really good at-bats."

                TV: 2:30 p.m. ET, Fox Sports 1

PITCHING MATCHUP: Astros RH Brad Peacock (13-2, 3.00 ERA) vs. Red Sox RH Doug Fister (5-9, 4.88)

Peacock gets the Game 3 start largely because of his consistency after he held his last seven opponents to two or fewer earned runs. The 29-year-old, who began the season in the bullpen, did not yield more than five hits in any of his five starts in September and earned the win in each of the last three. Peacock started at Fenway Park on Sep. 28 and held Boston to two runs on four hits and a walk in five frames.

Fister was chosen over Eduardo Rodriguez and reigning AL Cy Young Award winner Rick Porcello despite going 0-2 with a 9.18 ERA over his last four starts. The California native, who was signed by the Red Sox as a free agent in June, enjoyed a four-start stretch from Aug. 22 through Sep. 6 in which he allowed a total of five runs in 30 innings. Fister suffered a home loss to the Astros on Sep. 29 and is 4-2 with a 2.60 ERA in nine career postseason games (eight starts).

                WALK-OFFS

                1. Red Sox RF Mookie Betts aggravated a wrist injury Friday and is day-to-day.

                2. Houston 2B Jose Altuve is 5-for-7 with three homers, four RBIs and five runs scored in the series.

                3. Boston finished last in the AL with 168 home runs in the regular season and has yet to go deep in the playoffs.

PREDICTION: Astros 6, Red Sox 4

                    Preview: Indians at Yankees

                    Oct 7, 2017

The Cleveland Indians won 33 of their final 37 games in the regular season and are 2-0 in the playoffs following a 13-inning Game 2 triumph in which they recorded the largest comeback in postseason franchise history. The Indians will go for a sweep in the best-of-five American League Division Series when they visit the New York Yankees for Game 3 on Sunday.

Cleveland rallied from an 8-3 deficit on the strength of a grand slam by Francisco Lindor and a solo shot from Jay Bruce before Yan Gomes drove in the walk-off run in the 13th. "That was what you call October baseball right there," Gomes told reporters. "We've had tremendous comebacks. That's probably one of the top ones we've had all year. Going up 2-0 against the Yankees into New York, it's a good feeling right now." Yankees manager Joe Girardi found himself answering questions about his decision not to challenge a hit-by-pitch call that preceded Lindor's blast and his decision to pull starter CC Sabathia in the sixth inning after 77 pitches. "There was nothing that told us that he was not hit on the pitch," Girardi, who will start Masahiro Tanaka on Sunday against Cleveland's Carlos Carrasco, told reporters. "By the time we got the super slow-mo, we are beyond a minute. It was way too late. They tell us we have the 30 seconds. They will take longer in replay."

                    TV: 7:38 p.m. ET, Fox Sports 1

PITCHING MATCHUP: Indians RH Carlos Carrasco (18-6, 3.29 ERA) vs. Yankees RH Masahiro Tanaka (13-12, 4.74)

Carrasco has not lost since Aug. 22 and finished out the regular season by allowing one or zero runs in six of his final seven turns. The Venezuela native saved his best for last while striking out 14 over 8 1/3 scoreless innings against the Minnesota Twins. Carrasco, who is making his postseason debut after sitting out last October with a broken hand, endured one of his few rough outings during the regular season against New York on Aug. 6, when he was reached for five runs in 5 2/3 innings and suffered a loss.

Tanaka saved his best for last as well and earned a spot in the postseason rotation by striking out 15 without a walk and yielding three hits in seven scoreless innings against Toronto on Sep. 29. The Japan native allowed seven earned runs in two of his three previous starts but finished the regular season with a career-high 194 strikeouts. Tanaka lost his only previous postseason start in the 2015 wild-card game against Houston and is 1-2 with a 4.63 ERA in four career starts against Cleveland.

                    WALK-OFFS

                    1. Indians DH Edwin Encarnacion left Game 2 with a sprained ankle and will continue to be evaluated.

                    2. New York RF and MVP candidate Aaron Judge is 0-for-7 with five strikeouts in the series.

                    3. Cleveland LF Michael Brantley (ankle) came on in place of Encarnacion Friday and could play the field in Game 3

                    PREDICTION: Indians 5, Yankees 2

                        Preview: Canadiens at Rangers

                        Gracenote
                        Oct 8, 2017

Two teams in need of strong goaltending and defensive performances face off Sunday as the Montreal Canadiens conclude their season-opening three-game road trip against the New York Rangers. Both clubs were on the wrong end of lopsided affairs on Saturday, leaving New York still in search of its first victory of the campaign.

The Rangers put on the better showing despite surrendering eight goals in their loss at Toronto, as they rallied from a 5-1 deficit to forge a tie before yielding three tallies in the third period. New York has given up 12 goals in losing its first two games of 2017-18, with Henrik Lundqvist being victimized for eight - including five in the opening period on Saturday. Like Lundqvist, Carey Price lasted only 20 minutes as he surrendered four goals - three to Alex Ovechkin, who finished with four - on 14 shots in Montreal's 6-1 setback at Washington. The Canadiens also could afford to rev it up offensively, as they've scored a total of three goals while splitting their first two contests this season.

TV: 7 p.m. ET, NHL Network, Sportsnet One, RDS (Montreal), MSG Plus (New York)

ABOUT THE CANADIENS (1-1-0): Montreal, which plays six of its first eight games of the campaign on the road, outshot Washington 32-9 over the final two periods on Saturday but was outscored 2-1. Brendan Gallagher netted the team's lone goal, giving him a team-leading two points on the season. The Canadiens have scored a short-handed goal in each of their first two contests, with Phillip Danault tallying while down a skater in the season-opening victory at Buffalo.

ABOUT THE RANGERS (0-2-0): Linemates Chris Kreider, Mika Zibanejad and Pavel Buchnevich have combined for three goals and three assists over the first two games of the season. Zibanejad has scored all three of the goals, each of which has been recorded on the power play. Mats Zuccarello also is off to a strong start to 2017-18, registering a four-point performance in Toronto to give him a goal and four assists overall.

                        OVERTIME

                        1. Rangers D Kevin Shattenkirk notched a goal and an assist Saturday, with the tally being his 300th career point.

                        2. New York is in the midst of a stretch during which it plays nine of its first 11 games of the season at home.

                        3. This is the first of two meetings between the teams this month, with Montreal serving as host on Oct. 28.

                        PREDICTION: Rangers 4, Canadiens 3

Sunday's MLB Division Series Betting Preview and Odds

The National League Division series takes a break today and the titans of the American League East both find themselves returning home trying to avoid being swept.

Houston Astros at Boston Red Sox (+120, 9.5)

                            Astros lead series 2-0

                            TV:
                            2:30 p.m. ET, Fox Sports 1

                            PITCHING MATCHUP:
Astros RH Brad Peacock (13-2, 3.00 ERA) vs.

                            TRENDS:

                            * Astros are 14-3 in their last 17 after scoring 5 runs or more in their previous game.

                            * Red Sox are 0-5 in their last 5 Divisional Playoff games.

                            * Over is 8-2 in Astros last 10 overall.

                            * Over is 6-1 in Red Sox last 7 games following a loss.

                            * Astros are 5-1 in the last 6 meetings.

                            CONSENSUS:
The public is siding with the Houston Astros at a rate of 53 percent and the Over is picking up 60 percent of the totals action.

Cleveland Indians at New York Yankees (+106, 8.5)

                            Indians lead series 2-0

                            TV:
                            7:38 p.m. ET, Fox Sports 1

                            PITCHING MATCHUP:
Indians RH Carlos Carrasco (18-6, 3.29 ERA) vs.

                            TRENDS:

                            * Indians are 11-0 in their last 11 during game 3 of a series.

                            * Indians are 44-8 in their last 52 overall.
