Orlando (4-1) is off to a really nice start, with three-consecutive wins, including ones against the defending-Eastern Conference champion Cavaliers and the Western powerhouse Spurs. The Magic are coming off a 114-87 win Friday night against San Antonio.

To deal the Spurs their first loss of the season, Orlando shot 57.1 percent from the field and held San Antonio to just 34 first-half points. Evan Fournier was incredible for the Magic, with 25 points on 10 of 12 shooting, including a 4 of 4 rate from 3-point range. Jonathan Simmons came off the bench to knock down 8 of 13 shots for 17 points. That's five-straight games in double-digits for Simmons.

Fournier averages 22.2 points per game. He's been excellent beyond the arc, with 14 of 25 shots converted for rate of .560. He's exceeded 20 points four times already.


Charlotte (2-3) has alternated losses and wins up to this point in the season and last went down 109-93 against Houston. The Hornets have struggled on the offensive end, with 99.2 points per game, which ranks 23rd in the NBA. They've scored less than 95 points in each of their three losses.

Dwight Howard averages 14.4 points and 17.6 rebounds per game in his first season with Charlotte. He has the potential to make a big difference there if he can put his head down and play hard. Drama and discontentment has followed Howard during his 13-year career. However, he averages 17.4 points and 12.7 rebounds over his career.

The Bucks are led by Giannis Antetokounmpo, who is leading the league in scoring at 35 points per game. Milwaukee has won three of their first five games and will be looking to bounce back from a 96-89 home loss versus Boston. The Bucks were outrebounded by a 52-44 margin in defeat.

Giannis Antetokounmpo led all scorers with 28 points to go along with ten rebounds and seven assists. Malcolm Brogdon added 15 points and six rebounds in a losing effort for the Bucks.


The Atlanta Hawks have begun a rebuilding effort and enter this contest looking to snap a five-game losing streak. The Hawks’ only victory came on opening night in Dallas and they rank 26th in scoring at 98.5 points per game. Last time out, Atlanta was unable to make the plays down the stretch of a 105-100 home loss versus Denver. The Hawks were pummeled on the glass by a 62-45 margin.

The Spurs won their first four games to start the season, but were run off the floor during Friday night’s 114-87 loss at Orlando. San Antonio was outscored by 14 points over the first 12 minutes and allowed the Magic to shoot 57 percent from the field.

LaMarcus Aldridge continued his reenergized play with a team high 24 points on 9-for-14 from the field. Veteran C Pau Gasol chipped in 12 points and 11 rebounds in a losing effort for the Spurs.



The Indiana Pacers were forced to deal All-Star F Paul George to Oklahoma City in the offseason and could be an under the radar squad this year. Victor Oladipo, who was acquired in the George trade, leads Indiana in scoring at 26 points per game. On Wednesday, George fouled out in his first matchup versus the Pacers, but the Thunder cruised to a 114-96 victory. Indiana was outrebounded by ten and was limited to 34 percent shooting on the night..

The Nuggets connected on just 4-for-20 from long distance but outscored the Hawks by a 60-30 margin in points in the paint.

Paul Millsap scored seven of his 16 points during the fourth quarter in an emotional return against his former team. Nikola Jokic contributed 18 points, 15 rebounds, and five assists for the Nuggets on the night.


The Brooklyn Nets do not have the talent that most NBA rosters have, but they have showed a willingness to play extremely hard for head coach Kenny Atkinson. Brooklyn has split their first six games overall and is coming off a disappointing 107-86 road loss versus New York. The Nets managed just 14 points during the second quarter and shot 41 percent from the field.

Not likely to improve enough to run a figure anywhere near today's class rating, so put her on the vulnerable contenders list. VALIANT REASON - Today's contest is 7 furlongs. Hasn't finished in the money in a short distance event in the last couple months. Not the greatest of signs. SUNNY SONATA - Not easy to play this less than sharp equine this time.
