Penn State at Michigan State 11/4/17 - CFB Picks & Predictions

The Penn State Nittany Lions will look to bounce back from their first setback of the season when they visit the Michigan State Spartans on Saturday. The seventh ranked Nittany Lions were unable to hold onto a 15-point lead entering the fourth quarter of their 39-38 road loss at Ohio State. Penn State was outgained by a 529-283 margin and Heisman Trophy candidate Saquon Barkley was limited to just 44 yards on 21 carries.

UAB on the other hand is the opposite of the Owls and are sitting pretty good right now for the record and are in second place in the conference. The Mountaineers are a great team and the team has been able to have a great run this year and ever since the team beat Michigan several years back the Mountaineers have seen the recruiting go sky high and helped to build up the teams reputation.

The Mountaineers are led by the rushing on the season by Jalin Moore. Moore has carried the ball 91 times for 449 yards and a total of 4 touchdowns on the year so far.


With the Warhawks they have not been able to pick up much momentum on the year and it shows by the record they are holding right now. However, one aspect the Warhawks do have going for them is the exposure they had for recruiting efforts from the television show filmed in the area, which may draw in some recruits who are fans of the show.

Even so, the Beavers have lost their last two games by a total of four points. Cal has just one win in the conference and that was a thrashing of then No. 8 Washington State. Cal is 4-5 overall and can stil break even on the season.

Georgia is rolling through the SEC schedule, ranked in the top five and is a contender for the national playoffs. The Bulldogs host the South Carolina Gamecocks next week, a team that is 5-2 and has been a thorn in the paws of the Bulldogs. The Gamecocks have traditionally played well against Georgia. In 2014 and 2012 the Gamecocks beat Georgia when the Bulldogs were in the top 10, and they have one win over a ranked Georgia team in Athens. The Gamecocks are 5-5 against Georgia over the last 10 years. This is not a team the Bulldogs will take lightly, but the Gamecocks have no reason to not be confident.

Georgia's closest game in the SEC so far has been a 28-point win. The Bulldogs' only close game this year was a game they won at Notre Dame. The Sooners and Cowboys roll into the game at 7-1 carrying strong hopes of winning the Big 12 title, earning a spot in the College Football Playoff and competing for the national championship. Oklahoma overcame shoddy defense to defeat Texas Tech 49-27 on Saturday while Oklahoma State outlasted West Virginia 50-39 with another offensive outburst.

Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield is a leading candidate for the Heisman Trophy, destroying opposing secondaries this season by completing 72.8 percent of passes for 2,628 yards with 23 touchdowns and three interceptions. He's also rushed for four TDs. His favorite targets are Mark Andrews (36 receptions, 599 yards, four TDs) and CeeDee Lamb (30 receptions, 540 yards, six TDs). Trey Sermon averages 5.7 yards per carry and has four TDs for an Oklahoma offense that produces 42.9 points per game (6th in nation). Oklahoma allows 25.3 ppg.


Mason Rudolph is also one of the nation's elite signal callers, steering the Oklahoma State offense to 44.5 points per game (4th in nation) and 370.6 passing yards per game (2nd in nation). Rudolph has completed 66 percent for 2,866 yards with 28 touchdowns and five interceptions. He's been sacked 10 times and also rushed for seven TDs. James Washington has 45 receptions for 1,005 yards and eight TDs this season and 34 TDs in his career. justice Hill leads the ground game with 836 yards and seven TDs. The Cowboys allow 24.4 points per game (51st in the nation).

North Texas needed a strong drive late to fend off the pesky Old Dominion Monarchs 45-38 last week and maintain the lead in the Conference USA West Division. Louisiana Tech scored two touchdowns in the final minute to break open a tie game and defeat Rice 42-28.

Mason Fine has been better than fine this season - he's been outstanding. The North Texas signal caller has tossed for 2,388 yards with 17 touchdowns and eight interceptions, completing 63.6 percent of his attempts. Jeffrey Wilson is a stud on the ground, rushing for 834 yards and 11 TDs to give the offense balance. Jalen Guyton has 39 receptions for 692 yards and seven TDs. North Texas averages 37.4 points per game (21st) but the defense is porous, allowing 37.9 points per contest.


La. Tech snapped a two-game losing skid with the victory over ODU and coach Skip Holtz has to feel good about his squad, which is balanced on offense, rushing for 154 yards per game and passing for 247 ypg. J'Mar Smith has thrown for 1,960 yards with 10 TDs and seven picks this season, completing 56.6 percent. Boston Scott averages six yards per carry and has rushed for 514 yards, scoring five times. Teddy Veal is the top receiver, snagging 50 balls for 583 yards and three TDs. The Bulldogs score 29.4 points per game and allow 27.6 points per game and have plenty left on the table, as they are fighting to become bowl eligible.
