I'll take my chances here with Boston catching a big number at home against the Warriors. The Celtics 13 game winning streak is great, but this team has much bigger goals in mind. This is their chance to show they are for real against the defending champs. The atmosphere in the Garden is going to be electric for this showdown that is a nationally televised matchup on TNT. While I expect the Warriors to show up to play, this game simply doesn't mean as much to them and while Steph Curry is expected to play he had to sit out their last game with a thigh injury. I also think this stingy Boston defense, which is giving up just 93.4 ppg is capable of making things tough on the Warriors here and I think they do enough to cover and wouldn't be shocked if they won this game outright. Give me the Celtics +7.5!

Dayton lost their head coach and several good players. They beat Ball State 77-76 recently and that same Cardinals club just lost by 39 at Oklahoma. In this situation, we are looking to Play Against neutral court teams like the Flyers off a close home win by three points or less, a good team from last season who won 60% to 80% of their games. In the past two decades these teams are 7-28 ATS in this spot.

I think the Houston Rockets are getting a little too much love tonight because of the fact that Chris Paul is expected to make his return from injury. Now they're being asked to go on the road and lay a ridiculous 12.5 points to the Phoenix Suns tonight. These teams play similar up-tempo styles, and I think the Suns can at least hang around enough to stay within this number. The Suns have been poor this season, but they have only lost three of their last 12 games by 13 or more points. Give me the Suns.

NHL | Panthers vs Sharks

My 1* free play is on the San Jose Sharks (10:35 EST).
The 6-9-2 Florida Panthers are in San Jose to take on the 10-6 Sharks and for a number of different reasons, I think this one favors the home side.
The Sharks are surging, they’ve won six of their last seven, most recently against the Canucks and Kings.
The Panthers are scuffling, they’ve lost six of their last eight. Florida looks primed for a letdown here as well after it came from behind to knock off the Stars 4-3 in a shootout in its latest action.
Florida is an atrocious 30th in the NHL in goals against per game, conceding 3.76 per contest.
In contrast, San Jose allows just 2.25, the best GAA in the league.
I’ll point out as well that the Panthers are just 3-11 in their last 14 on the road, while the Sharks are 5-1 in their last six at home.
There’s no reason for San Jose to look past Florida today and I expect it to make the most of this favorable matchup. Consider laying the price in this one.

Jack's Free Pick Thursday: Washington +9

The Washington Huskies were a very young team last year. They put too much on No. 1 pick Markelle Fultz's shoulders. But now with him gone, and with four starters returning, the Huskies can play more as a team. I think it helps getting cancer of a coach Lorenzo Romar out of the program as well.

Romar did not leave the cupboard bare for Mike Hopkins, a longtime protege of Jim Boeheim. The four returning starters are David Crisp (13.8 ppg), Matisse Thybulle (10.5 ppg), Noah Dickerson (12.5 ppg, 8.2 rpg) and Sam Timmins (6-11 sophomore). Hopkins also did a good job in recruiting to make up for the loss of Michael Porter Jr. to Missouri.

Washington has won and covered its first two games, beating Belmont 86-82 as 2-point dogs and Eastern Washington 79-69 as 9-point favorites. Providence opened the season beating Houston Baptist 84-55, but losing 74-86 at home to Minnesota despite being 2.5-point favorites.

The problem for the Friars right now is that they are missing their best player in Emmitt Holt due to an abdominal injury. I think they are being overvalued in the early going due to returning all five starters, but they aren't the same team without Holt, who averaged 12.5 ppg and 5.4 rpg last season.

Providence is 0-6 ATS in road games off a loss by 10 points or more over the past three seasons. Hopkins has installed a zone defense that will be tough for the Friars to be prepared for in just two days after losing to Minnesota on Monday. The Huskies are 4-1 ATS in their last five neutral site games. Bet Washington Thursday.

The Key: The South Florida Bulls are in a tough spot here from a mental standpoint this week. They have their biggest game of the season on deck against UCF next week that will decide the AAC Championship. It will also likely get one of the two of them into the Group of 5 bowl game. I don't think the Bulls will be 100% focused on beating Tulsa this week, let alone winning by 23-point points to cover this lofty spread. Tulsa has some impressive performances this season, losing only 51-54 at Toledo, beating Houston 45-17, which is the same Houston team that handed USF its only loss, and only losing 34-38 at SMU after blowing a late lead. I think the Golden Hurricane can hang around in this game given the tough situation for South Florida. Tulsa is 7-0 ATS in road games vs. good offensive teams - scoring 31 or more points/game over the last 3 seasons. The Golden Hurricane are 14-5 ATS in their last 19 road games and 9-2 ATS in their last 11 vs. a team with a winning record. This is their bowl game. Take Tulsa.

The Wolverines failed to cover as a similarly priced favorite in their last game, as they only beat Central Michigan 72-65 as a 22.5-point home favorite. I believe that's created some value here with Michigan against the Golden Eagles. That's a good Chippewas team that played their hearts out against their in-state big rival.
Southern Miss went just 9-22 last year with a 6-12 record in C-USA. It's amazing how far this program has fallen. From 2009 to 2014 this team was averaging right around 20 wins a season. They are now 20-63 in 3 years under head coach Doc Sadler.
It doesn't look any better in 2017 with the loss of leading scorer Quinton Campbell and just 2 starters back. Note that last year the Golden Eagles had a 49-point loss to FSU and 42-point loss to Mississippi St.
Look for this one to get ugly in a hurry and the Wolverines to win here by 30+. Take Michigan!
