Maple Leafs vs. Flyers Preview and Predictions

By Gracenote for Scores and Stats
    by Gracenote on 12/12/2017

Toronto Maple Leafs coach Mike Babcock has played his cards well this season when having ace Auston Matthews held out of the deck due to injury. With Matthews likely a game-time decision due to an upper-body ailment, the Maple Leafs aim to secure a fourth straight victory on Tuesday when they open a three-game trek against the Philadelphia Flyers.

"We're not trying to have (Auston) out of the lineup, but it's nice we can win without him obviously," Babcock told TSN after Toronto improved to 5-0-0 this season without the reigning Calder Memorial Trophy recipient in the lineup following Sunday's 1-0 victory over Edmonton. Frederik Andersen was given the night off against the Oilers, but looks to avenge his lone loss to Philadelphia in seven career outings (6-1-0) following a four-goal performance in a 4-2 setback on Oct. 28. Jakub Voracek scored and set up a goal in that contest and notched three assists on Thursday as the Flyers completed a perfect three-game trek through Western Canada with a 4-1 triumph versus Vancouver. The 28-year-old Czech has set up seven goals during the road trip to extend his team lead in assists (30) and points (37).

TV: 7 p.m. ET, TSN4 (Toronto), TVAS, NBCSN Philadelphia

ABOUT THE MAPLE LEAFS (20-10-1): William Nylander may have been shuffled to a new line, but his mates' faces were quite familiar as he joined Zach Hyman and Connor Brown for the first time since the group was with the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League. "It is fun when we get to play together, it (had been) a while," Nylander told TSN. "I think it started pretty good." Hyman scored 34 seconds into Sunday's tilt, marking his club's fastest to start a game this season.

ABOUT THE FLYERS (11-11-7): While Philadelphia answered a 10-game winless skid (0-5-5) with a successful road trip, forward Sean Couturier knows his team needs a strong response to end a six-game losing streak (0-4-2) in front of the home folk at Wells Fargo Center. "It can be tough at times, especially in Philly. More pressure," Couturier told Philly.com. "But when you're winning, it's one of the best places to play. Now that we're back on the winning side, we're excited to be back in front of the fans, and hopefully we can stick a few more wins here." Goaltender Brian Elliott has made his presence felt during the team's winning streak, earning NHL Third Star of Week honors on Monday after posting a 1.67 goals-against average and .954 save percentage during that stretch.

    OVERTIME

    1. Philadelphia LW Michael Raffl collected three goals and an assist during the three-game road trip after mustering three points (two goals, one assist) in his previous 26 contests.

    2. Maple Leafs C Nazem Kadri scored twice in the first encounter versus the Flyers and has 12 points in 12 games to end November before being held off the scoresheet in all four contests in December.

    3. Philadelphia captain Claude Giroux, who is an Ontario native, has recorded multi-point performances in each of his last two games overall and scored a goal versus Toronto in the first encounter.

PREDICTION: Maple Leafs 4, Flyers 2

Kings vs. Devils Preview and Predictions

By Gracenote for Scores and Stats
      by Gracenote on 12/12/2017

The Los Angeles Kings have been downright impressive during their season-high eight-game winning streak, but don't go singing their praises to coach John Stevens. The Pacific Division-leading Kings look to continue their torrid play on Tuesday as they open a four-game road trip against the New Jersey Devils.

"It really doesn't matter what we've done to this point," Stevens said following Monday's practice. "This is an important trip to continue to get points and continue to try and play well and build our team game." Los Angeles' calling card has long been its defense, and the team has surrendered just 13 goals during its win streak - with Jonathan Quick posting a 1.46 goals-against average and .943 save percentage during his six-game unbeaten run. That level of dominance is hardly music to the ears of New Jersey, which has mustered just nine goals en route to losing three of its last four games. "Every team in the league goes through that at some point," Devils forward Taylor Hall said of his team dropping two straight in regulation for the first time this season. "It's about how quickly you can nip it in the bud and really get that part out of your game."

TV: 7 p.m. ET, FSN West (Los Angeles), MSG-Plus (New Jersey)

ABOUT THE KINGS (20-8-3): Captain Anze Kopitar has collected multi-point performances in each of his last four games, recording three goals and six assists in that stretch. The 30-year-old Slovene has collected 11 multi-point efforts this season and leads the team in goals (16), assists (22) and points (38). Fellow forward Tyler Toffoli scored and set up a goal in Saturday's 3-2 overtime win over Carolina, increasing his goal total to 14 - two shy of his final output from last season.

ABOUT THE DEVILS (16-9-4): Cory Schneider is hoping to rebound from a disastrous start after matching the sum total of his three previous outings by surrendering all five goals in a loss to Columbus on Friday. "For me, learning on goals and what I can do better and how I can be different (is the approach needed)," the 31-year-old Schneider told NJ.com. "We've done a pretty good all year to responding. This weekend, and it kind of creeps back four, five, six games now. We haven't had our best, and we need a response from everybody." Schneider dropped both encounters with the Kings last season, including yielding three goals in the first period before receiving an early exit on Jan. 24.

      OVERTIME

      1. New Jersey C Brian Gibbons leads the team with 11 goals, but has just one point - an assist - in his last six games.

      2. The Kings are just 2-for-22 on the power play during their win streak.

      3. The Devils have failed to convert with the man advantage in four straight games (0-for-11).

      PREDICTION: Kings 3, Devils 1

Oilers vs. Blue Jackets Preview and Predictions

By Gracenote for Scores and Stats
        by Gracenote on 12/11/2017

Although the Columbus Blue Jackets are hearing footsteps from the defending two-time Presidents' Trophy winners, they are holding down first place in the Metropolitan Division entering Tuesday's matchup against the visiting Edmonton Oilers. The Blue Jackets have won two in a row and 10 of 13 to maintain a two-point edge over Washington in the division.

Reigning Vezina Trophy winner Sergei Bobrovsky allowed three goals in his previous 11 starts before turning aside 35 shots to earn his league-leading fourth shutout in a 1-0 win over Arizona on Saturday night. "I think we need to get him in a flow after giving him a few days," coach John Tortorella said. "Goalies need to get into a flow. He looked as sharp as he has since he had those few days off." While Columbus became the ninth team in league history to score an opening-minute goal in a 1-0 regulation victory, the Oilers were victimized by the 10th team to achieve that feat in their 1-0 setback at Toronto on Sunday night. Edmonton has lost three in a row and six of seven overall to the Blue Jackets while dropping its last five visits to Columbus.

TV: 7 p.m. ET, Sportsnet Oilers (Edmonton), FSN Ohio (Columbus)

ABOUT THE OILERS (12-16-2): Edmonton received plenty of secondary scoring in a 6-2 rout at Montreal on Saturday but was unable to win consecutive games for the third time this season despite pouring 41 shots on goal in the loss at Toronto. "Hockey's a funny game. Hockey's a weird game," Oilers superstar Connor McDavid said. "Some nights, you don't do anything and get one or two. Some nights, you have your legs and get nothing. That's the way hockey is." McDavid has two goals and five points in four games versus Columbus.

ABOUT THE BLUE JACKETS (19-10-1): Cam Atkinson was a healthy scratch for Saturday's win, a startling development for a player who scored 35 goals last season and signed a seven year, $41.125 million last month. "It's a wake-up call," acknowledged Atkinson, who has been limited to six goals and nine points in 25 games. "I take full responsibility. I know I need to be way better, and I will be." Tortorella reunited Atkinson with Boone Jenner and Brandon Dubinsky at Monday's practice and also had him on the top power-play unit.

        OVERTIME

        1. Columbus has a league-worst 9.4 percent success rate on the power play, while Edmonton is 2-for-24 in the last 10 games.

        2. Oilers F Milan Lucic has three goals and seven assists in the past 10 games.

        3. Atkinson has six goals and nine points in 12 games versus the Oilers.

PREDICTION: Blue Jackets 3, Oilers 2

Senators vs. Sabres Preview and Predictions

By Gracenote for Scores and Stats
          by Gracenote on 12/11/2017

The two worst teams in the Eastern Conference are mired in horrendous tailspins, but one of them will get back in the win column when the reeling Ottawa Senators visit the skidding Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday night. Ottawa, which reached the Eastern Conference finals last season, has dropped 11 of its last 12 while Buffalo has lost 13 of 15.

The Senators have lost four straight -- three by shutout -- entering the final stop of a season-high seven-game road trip against the only team below them in the East. "When things don't go well for an extended period of time, it's not a great situation," Ottawa defenseman Dion Phaneuf said. "It's not about the coaching staff. It's not about one aspect here or one aspect there, it's about us collectively as a team. We haven't played well enough as a team to get out of it." Neither have the Sabres, who came close at the end of their four-game trip by dropping a pair of 3-2 overtime decisions in Chicago and St. Louis. Buffalo has had the upper hand in the series of late, riding an eight-game point streak (6-0-2) against the Senators after winning four of five meetings last season.

          TV: 7 p.m. ET, RDS, TSN5 (Ottawa), MSG-Buffalo

ABOUT THE SENATORS (9-12-7): Rumors of potential trades are swirling around Ottawa -- even superstar captain Erik Karlsson's name has been floated about -- but leading goal scorer Mark Stone doesn't think making a deal is a cure-all. "I think the changes have to come with the guys in the locker room," Stone said. "We have to change either the way we're preparing or we have to change the way we're playing and commit to a strategy." Stone has been held held off the scoresheet in the last four games and is minus-10 in that span.

ABOUT THE SABRES (7-17-6): Evan Rodrigues scored his first two goals of the season to help Buffalo erase a two-goal deficit and force overtime versus St. Louis. Rodrigues was appearing in his third game since his promotion from the minors. "He's got a good nose to where to be in the right position at the right time," coach Phil Housley said. "The puck, sometimes in games, follows you. It was following him tonight. He has some good speed, he has really good lateral movement and he gets into those areas to score. It was good to see him get on the board."

          OVERTIME

          1. Sabres C Jack Eichel has four goals and 10 points in seven games versus the Senators.

          2. Ottawa hasn't beaten Buffalo in regulation since Oct. 8, 2015.

          3. Sabres G Robin Lehner has faced 133 shots on goal in his last three starts (1-0-2).

          PREDICTION: Sabres 4, Senators 3

Lightning vs. Blues Preview and Predictions

By Gracenote for Scores and Stats
            by Gracenote on 12/11/2017

The Eastern Conference-leading Tampa Bay Lightning begin a four-game road trip against the top team in the West when they visit the injury-plagued St. Louis Blues on Tuesday night. The Lightning come in off sweeping a four-game homestand while St. Louis has also won four in a row, but is smarting from the loss of second-leading scorer Jaden Schwartz (ankle) for at least six weeks.

"It sucks," Blues forward Brayden Schenn told the St. Louis Dispatch. "He's having a great year. He's doing it all for us, both ends of the ice and making stuff happen. ... We have to find ways to step up and fill the big hole left by him." Schenn will be depended on even more after the injury to Schwartz and the former fifth-overall draft pick has scored six times during a four-game goal streak to be named the NHL's first star of the week Monday. Captain Steven Stamkos leads the NHL with 42 points and Nikita Kucherov boasts 41, but 21-year-old center Brayden Point has been just as important for Tampa Bay with three overtime winners and goals in each of the last three games. "(Point) is one of those guys who goes out there and feels if he doesn't play well he's going to get sent down," Lightning coach Jon Cooper told reporters after Point's winner in the extra session of Saturday's 4-3 victory over Winnipeg. "That's the kind of attitude that he has."

TV: 8 p.m. ET, NBC Sports Network

ABOUT THE LIGHTNING (21-6-2): Kucherov reached 20 goals and Stamkos notched his 30th assist in Saturday's victory while forward Yanni Gourde and rookie defenseman Mikhail Sergachev became the fifth and sixth players to get to 20 points. "I think we showed the depth of our team (Saturday)," Gourde told reporters after scoring his ninth goal. "Every line can score, and every line was effective this homestand." Forward Tyler Johnson is warming up with two goals and five assists over the last four games, most of that time since he was moved into the top six up front.

ABOUT THE BLUES (21-8-2): Schenn leads the team with 37 points and Vladimir Tarasenko (33) has stepped up with two goals and two assists in the last three games while coach Mike Yeo will shuffle the forward lines to make up for the absence of Schwartz. "I think everybody gets an opportunity," Yeo told reporters. "I don't think we're going to point to one person and say this is the guy that's going to make up for the loss." Defenseman Alex Pietrangelo (foot), who has three assists in his last three games, missed the 3-2 overtime win over Buffalo on Sunday and is questionable.

            OVERTIME

            1. Tampa Bay G Andrei Vasilevskiy, who boasts a .930 save percentage, has a chance to become the first in the NHL to reach 20 victories.

            2. St. Louis G Jake Allen allowed only six goals while winning his last four starts and was named the NHL's second star of the week.

            3. The Lightning have won the last two meetings, including a 2-1 triumph in Tampa Bay on Oct. 14, but lost five straight at St. Louis.

            PREDICTION: Blues 3, Lightning 2

Flames vs. Wild Preview and Predictions

By Gracenote for Scores and Stats
              by Gracenote on 12/11/2017

After navigating the rugged three-game California road trip by posting a pair of dramatic victories, the Minnesota Wild will kick off a three-game homestand against the Calgary Flames on Tuesday night. The Wild have won four of five overall and capped the West Coast trek by registering overtime wins over the Anaheim Ducks and San Jose Sharks.

Minnesota squandered a three-goal lead at San Jose but came away with the victory on Nino Niederreiter's unassisted tally in the extra session. "We definitely played some really good hockey out here in California," Niederreiter said. "We just gotta make sure we bring that momentum with us, bring that confidence with us and take it game by game." The Flames have won two straight following a stretch of six losses in eight games (2-4-2) and have been much better on the road (8-4-2) than at Scotiabank Saddledome (8-8-0). One of those home losses was a 4-2 setback to the Wild on Oct. 21, which ended Calgary's four-game winning streak in the series.

TV: 8 p.m. ET, Sportsnet West (Calgary), FSN North-Plus (Minnesota)

ABOUT THE FLAMES (16-12-2): Admitting there was "no excuse not to be moving" after returning from a one-game suspension, Matthew Tkachuk scored twice in a three-goal third period against Vancouver to end an 11-game goal drought. Tkachuk's tallies sandwiched a goal by Sam Bennett, the No. 4 overall draft pick in 2014 who had notched three goals and five assists over the past seven games. "His game was trending in the right direction and now he's getting results," Flames coach Glen Gulutzan said of Bennett.

ABOUT THE WILD (15-11-3): After failing to register a point in three straight games for the first time this season, veteran forward Eric Staal scored a pair of goals and set up another to boost his team-leading total to 26 points. "We need our big players to be big or we're not going to succeed," Minnesota coach Bruce Boudreau said. "He played really good, could have had a couple more, I think." Defenseman Ryan Murphy collected his first points in his sixth game of the season with a goal and an assist in San Jose.

              OVERTIME

              1. Flames G Mike Smith, who appeared in his 500th game Saturday, is 4-11-1 lifetime against Minnesota.

              2. Wild G Devan Dubnyk is 11-7-4 with a 2.26 goals-against average versus the Flames.

              3. Calgary is 2-for-22 on the power play over the past seven games.

Panthers vs. Blackhawks Preview and Predictions

By Gracenote for Scores and Stats
                by Gracenote on 12/12/2017

Corey Crawford's return to the lineup coincided with the end of a slide, and the Chicago Blackhawks hope to continue moving in a positive direction when they host the Florida Panthers on Tuesday. Crawford has allowed three goals in two straight victories after missing the previous three contests due to injury as the Blackhawks' losing streak rose to five games.

"He's played great for us," Chicago right wing Patrick Kane told reporters regarding Crawford, who owns a .932 save percentage. "We put ourselves in some tough positions some shifts, and he's there to bail us out." The Blackhawks registered a total of 88 shots in their last two games and hope to continue that kind of pressure against Florida, which is without No. 1 goaltender Roberto Luongo and opened its five-game road trip with a 2-1 overtime victory at Detroit on Monday. The Panthers have earned at least a point in seven of their last 10 games (5-3-2) and got good news Monday with the quick return of top center Aleksander Barkov. The 22-year-old, who was drafted second overall by Florida in 2013, notched an assist in the win over the Red Wings and logged 23 minutes, 36 seconds of ice time after missing the previous game with an upper-body injury.

TV: 8:30 p.m. ET, Sportnet, FSN Florida, NBCSN Chicago

ABOUT THE PANTHERS (12-14-4): Florida's top two scorers have been red-hot of late as Jonathan Huberdeau (32 points) has recorded a goal and five assists in his last three games while Vincent Trocheck (31) has registered three tallies and eight points in his last five. Aaron Ekblad saw his three-game goal-scoring streak end Monday despite unleashing four shots and fellow defenseman Mike Matheson scored the game-winner in overtime for his first tally of the campaign. James Reimer is 3-1-2 in his last six decisions after making 34 saves on Monday.

ABOUT THE BLACKHAWKS (14-11-5): Kane snapped a four-game point drought with a pair of assists in Sunday's 3-1 victory over Arizona and leads Chicago with 29 points - eight more than the team's goal-scoring leader Alex DeBrincat (12). Captain Jonathan Toews has notched four points in his last five games while Nick Schmaltz and Artem Anisimov ended four-game goal-scoring droughts on Sunday. Tommy Wingels has scored in two straight games, but Chicago's power play has struggled in its last seven contests (2-for-27).

                OVERTIME

                1. Barkov's assist on Monday gave him 28 points on the season and pulled the Finn within one of 200 for his career.

                2. Kane moved into fifth place on the team's all-time scoring list Sunday, notching two points to break a tie with Doug Wilson (779).

                3. Chicago LW Patrick Sharp, who has managed one point in his last six contests, is slated to play in his 900th NHL game on Tuesday.

                PREDICTION: Blackhawks 4, Panthers 2

Hurricanes vs. Golden Knights Preview and Predictions

By Gracenote for Scores and Stats
                  by Gracenote on 12/12/2017

The expansion Vegas Golden Knights could have their No. 1 goaltender back in the crease when they begin a five-game homestand Tuesday against the Carolina Hurricanes. Marc-Andre Fleury, who has not played since Oct. 13 because of a concussion, was activated from injured reserve Sunday after missing 25 games.

"I feel good, finally," the 33-year-old Fleury told the Las Vegas Sun. "It's been a long time that I've been away now. It's fun to feel normal and be around the team and have some fun." The Golden Knights are an astounding 11-2-0 at home in their inaugural season and have won four straight contests overall, including Saturday's 5-3 triumph at Dallas in which David Perron recorded a goal and an assist to reach 400 points for his career. Carolina remains in search of a victory on its six-game road trip after dropping a 3-2 decision at Anaheim on Monday. The Hurricanes are 0-2-2 on their trek and have lost six straight away from home (0-3-3).

TV: 10 p.m. ET, FSN Carolinas, AT&T SportsNet-Rocky Mountain (Vegas)

ABOUT THE HURRICANES (11-11-7): Victor Rask appears to have broken out of his goal-scoring slump as he has tallied in three consecutive contests after scoring once in his previous 13 games. Cam Ward likely will be in net Tuesday as he seeks his 300th career victory. The 33-year-old former Conn Smythe Trophy winner is 3-0-1 in his last five starts but has been relegated to the backup role this season.

ABOUT THE GOLDEN KNIGHTS (19-9-1): With Fleury ready for action, Vegas assigned rookie Maxime Lagace to Chicago of the American Hockey League. The 24-year-old was brought up from the minors when the Golden Knights' top three goaltenders went down with injuries and had an up-and-down experience, posting a 6-6-1 record with a 3.79 goals-against average and .872 save percentage. William Karlsson leads the team with 15 goals, which was his total in 162 games over his previous two seasons with Columbus.

                  OVERTIME

                  1. Golden Knights LW Erik Haula has scored a goal in three straight games and four of his last five.

                  2. Carolina D Justin Faulk's next point will be the 200th of his career.

                  3. Vegas C Cody Eakin is one assist shy of 100 for his career while D Luca Sbisa needs two points to reach 100 in the NHL.

PREDICTION: Golden Knights 3, Hurricanes 1

Mississippi State vs. Cincinnati Preview and Predictions

Recent subpar performances from its best players has dropped Cincinnati out of the top 25 rankings. Getting back there will require better ball handling - and that starts with a Tuesday night encounter with a visiting Mississippi State team that comes in with an unblemished record but is having its own turnover problems.

The Bearcats were in the thick of it against No. 5 Florida in the Never Forget Tribute Classic in Newark, N.J., on Saturday, but committed a whopping 21 turnovers while ultimately falling short 66-60 for their second straight loss following a seven-game winning streak. "We've got good players turning the ball over, which is a big, big problem," Cincinnati head coach Mick Cronin said after the game. "It's hard to win when you turn the ball over, nearly impossible to win. If we had won this game somehow with the turnover line it would have been a modern miracle." Getting back into the top 25 won't require anything miraculous - Cincinnati earned the most votes of any team not in the rankings - but Tuesday's opponent is no pushover. The Bulldogs ran their season-opening winning streak to eight games with a 95-62 rout of Division II North Georgia.

                    TV: 7 p.m. ET, ESPN2

ABOUT MISSISSIPPI STATE (8-0): The Bulldogs can't exactly boast about the strength of their schedule to date, and are probably fortunate to still be unbeaten despite committing an average of 15.3 turnovers per game - tied with Idaho State for 279th among 351 Division I schools. But Mississippi State does plenty of other things well; it ranks 34th in the nation in shooting percentage (49.6) and averages 6.6 blocked shots per game, tied for the sixth-highest rate in the country. Tyson Carter leads five players in double figures at 14 points per game, but had just two against Northern Georgia after racking up 55 in his previous two games.

ABOUT CINCINNATI (7-2): Cronin clearly wasn't happy with his team's effort in losses to nationally-ranked Xavier and Florida, suggesting that winning made his team "soft" and adding that "it makes you arrogant and it makes your players content." Gary Clark leads the team in scoring at 13.2 ppg and had nine points and 13 rebounds in the loss to the Gators; he's also at 82.5 percent from the free-throw line but has hit on just 3-of-6 attempts over his past two games. Jacob Evans is a close second in the pecking order at 13.1 ppg and has reached double figures in five straight games, highlighted by a 23-point effort against Xavier.

                    TIP-INS

                    1. Tuesday marks Mississippi State's only road encounter among its first 14 games of the season.

                    2. The Bearcats are tied for fourth in Division I in scoring margin at plus-21.7 points per game.

                    3. Teams shoot just 36.8 percent vs. Cincinnati; only nine teams have better defensive rates.

PREDICTION: Cincinnati 74, Mississippi State 66

Michigan vs. Texas Preview and Predictions

Michigan looks to build on its comeback win over UCLA when it hits the road to face Texas on Tuesday. The Wolverines erased a 15-point second half deficit en route to a 78-69 overtime victory against the then 23rd-ranked Bruins, as they knocked off a ranked team for the first time this season, and hope the win serves as a springboard to their fourth consecutive triumph over Texas after posting victories over the Longhorns in each of the last three years.

"It's really a great testimony to our kids," Michigan coach John Beilein told reporters. "I'm hoping it's a huge benchmark for our team as we go forward." Texas is back on track after losses to No. 4 Duke (85-78) and 13th-ranked Gonzaga at the PK80 Tournament. The Longhorns beat Florida A&M 82-58 before taking down VCU 71-67 on the road Dec. 5 to hand Shaka Smart his 200th career coaching victory in his return to Richmond after leaving the Rams for Texas in 2015, and they hope to ride the momentum to their first victory against Michigan since Mar. 15, 1996. "Our guys really hung in there and made some plays down the stretch to pull it out," Smart told reporters. "We took a step but we still have a long way to go."

                      TV: 9 p.m. ET, ESPN2

ABOUT MICHIGAN (8-3): Moritz Wagner poured in 23 points while Charles Matthews added 20 points on 8-of-11 shooting and pulled down eight rebounds as the Wolverines outscored UCLA 13-4 in overtime to complete the upset. Zavier Simpson had his best outing of the season as he registered a career-high 15 points and four steals as Michigan forced 20 turnovers against the Bruins. Duncan Robinson's shooting woes continued as he missed five of his six attempts from the floor to finish with two points and he is 5-for-30 from the field over his last four games.

ABOUT TEXAS (6-2): Sophomore guard Andrew Jones drained four 3-pointers en route to a career-high 19 points in the win against VCU to finish in double figures for the seventh time in eight games. Dylan Osetkowski added 17 points while freshman phenom Mohamed Bamba contributed 13 points, 13 rebounds and four blocked shots against the Rams to register the second double-double of his career. Eric Davis Jr. scored 11 points and Kerwin Roach dished out a season-high seven assists.

                      TIP-INS

                      1. Five of the six meetings between Texas and Michigan have been decided by six points or less.

                      2. Bamba is ranked third nationally with four blocked shots per game.

                      3. Wagner is averaging 18.2 points over his last five games.

                      PREDICTION: Texas 73, Michigan 69

San Diego vs. Colorado Preview and Predictions

Colorado's Tad Boyle told anyone that would listen before the season that he had one of the top freshmen in the country in McKinley Wright IV. The point guard hasn't done anything to diminish his coach's feelings and will put his vast skills on display again when the Buffaloes host stingy San Diego on Tuesday in a matchup of 7-2 teams.

Wright averages team highs of 15.7 points and 4.2 assists while shooting 51.9 percent from the field and contributing 5.3 rebounds - second on the team. The Minnesota native recorded 16 points, five assists and four rebounds in Saturday's 96-69 loss at No. 9 Xavier on Saturday, a setback that Boyle hopes will somehow improve the Buffaloes. "This is an opportunity for us to learn to get better. Not necessarily from our own mistakes, but from what Xavier does well,'' Boyle told reporters. "This should be an eye-opener for our guys." The Toreros are coming off a 79-51 rout of Northern Arizona on Saturday in which they led 26-3 and allow 59.7 points per game, the seventh-fewest nationally entering Monday.

                        TV: 8 p.m. ET, Pac-12 Network

ABOUT SAN DIEGO (7-2): Junior forward Isaiah Pineiro, who leads the team in scoring (15.7 points) and rebounding (6.3), recorded a season-high 23 points in the Toreros' 65-60 victory at New Mexico State on Wednesday. Junior guard Isaiah Wright (13.0 points, 5.8 rebounds, 5.7 assists) missed a triple-double by one rebound in a 72-62 victory at Grand Canyon on Nov. 25. Junior guard Tyler Williams is averaging 12 points in his last two games - his third and fourth of the season after recovering from a broken big toe - and is among five players averaging more than 25 minutes.

ABOUT COLORADO (7-2): Senior guard George King (14.4 points, team-best 8.8 rebounds) is averaging 16.8 points and 9.8 boards over his last five games after recording 15 and eight versus Xavier. Junior guard Namon Wright (12.2 points) scored 20 and recorded a career-high six steals Saturday, and is 3-for-6 from 3-point range in his last two games after starting the season 4-for-20. Senior forward Tory Miller-Stewart (6.2 points, 4.7 rebounds) has missed the last three games with what is likely a season-ending foot injury, so 7-0 freshman forward Dallas Walton and 6-10 sophomore forward Lucas Siewert (combined 7.1 points, 6.9 rebounds) must step up.

                        TIP-INS

                        1. The Buffaloes boast 11 players who are averaging at least 12 minutes with McKinley Wright (32.4), King (26.9) and Namon Wright (25.2) leading the way.

                        2. Opponents are shooting a nation-low 22.4 percent beyond the arc against San Diego.

                        3. McKinley Wright's string of nine games with 10 or more points to start his career is the longest such run at Colorado since Alec Burks of the Utah Jazz reached double figures in his first 20 games of the 2009-10 campaign.

PREDICTION: San Diego 72, Colorado 68
