**BROOKLYN (-2) over Orlando
Rotation #702 – 4:35 pm Pacific
The Magic are now 4-21 straight up and 6-18-1 ATS in their last 25 games, and they’re even worse without Nikola Vucevic. Orlando was already a bad team without Terrence Ross and losing Vucevic is a major blow even with Evan Fournier and Aaron Gordon back in the lineup. As I pointed out in previous plays against the Magic, Gordon and Fournier both have really negative plus-minus numbers when Ross and Vucevic are both on the bench. The problem with Vucevic not playing is it gives more minutes to Bismak Biyombo, who has been starting with Vucevic out. Biyombo has a plus-minus of -185 points in 616.1 minutes this season, which is -14.4 points per 48 minutes. The Magic are actually even in point differential in the minutes that Vucevic has been on the court this season, which is incredible for such a bad team, so you can see why I rate Orlando much lower with Vucevic out. My player-specific ratings favor the Brooklyn by 6 ½ points even the adjustment for this being the second of back-to-back nights for the Nets and I’ll take Brooklyn in a 2-Star Best Bet at -3 points or less.
*MINNESOTA (-9.5) over L.A. Lakers
Rotation #706 – 5:05 pm Pacific
I like Minnesota’s rotation right now, as they are certainly better with Shabazz Muhammed out of the rotation. Minnesota has outscored opponents by a total of 81 points this season but they’re -122 points when Muhammad is on the floor (in just 254 minutes). It’s not a coincidence that Minnesota is 11-4 straight up in games Muhammad does not play (aside from garbage time minutes at the end of blowouts) and I like the Timberwolves in this game in part because they’re a bit better than their season rating while the Lakers are worse without Brook Lopez, Lonzo Ball and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, who is out tonight due to some legal issues. I favor Minnesota by 13 points with current lineups (even assuming Muhammad would play a few minutes if this game is a blowout). I’ll take Minnesota in a 1-Star Best Bet at -10 points or less.
**CHICAGO (+1) over Portland
Rotation #708 – 5:05 pm Pacific
Chicago is now 10-3 straight up and 12-1 ATS since Nikola Mirotic added value with his good play and pushed the horrendously bad Cristiano Felicio to the end of the bench (he has a -165 plus-minus in just 321.7 minutes). I’ve been Chicago in nearly every one of those games and I still see good value on the Bulls again today, even after accounting for their lack of rest. I’ll assume that Damian Lillard will play and be 100% tonight, even though he’s considered a game time decision and you may get better odds if you wait for that decision and he plays, but I’m happy to take my +1 now, as the line would be worse if he doesn’t play. My ratings favor Chicago by 4 points with Lillard playing and I’ll take Chicago in a 2-Star Best Bet at -1 or better and for 1-Star up to -2.Comment
