I lean toward NORTH LIGHT RIDGE here. May best this field here, showing strong figures of late. With a respectable 68 Equibase speed fig last time out, will clearly be a factor in this affair. Pedigo has this gelding running well and is a solid choice based on the very good Equibase Speed Figures put up in route races recently. SALUTETHEPRINCE - The Equibase class figure of today's affair is much lower than his last race. RUNNIN SKY - Has been racing admirably and has among the most competitive speed in the race for today's distance. This group is much less demanding than the last one he ran against.

LUZ MIMI is my choice. Is difficult not to consider based on Equibase speed figs which have been quite good - 88 avg - of late. Englehart has a formidable 29 percent win rate with entries running at this distance and surface. Had one of the top Speed Figures of this group in her last contest. BELLA BAILAR - Castellano has been on fire the last month, winning at a nifty 15 percent clip. Looks quite good to be up near the front end at the first call. THREE ILLUSIONS - Bezara has a very solid winning percentage with horses racing in dirt sprint races. Garnered a decent speed fig last time out.

STRONGHAMMER - I like to wager on this handicapping angle, a pony coming back off a strong effort within the last month. I think Cowans is making a good move here. This gelding can only profit from the shorter distance. Early speed is always important in horse racing, but the lone speed horse is always dangerous. This one has increased his speed ratings in each of the last two races. That kind of progress is worth taking a look at.

Vulnerable Contenders: #3 ANOTHER SUNRISE (ML=3/1), #6 CHILLICOTHE (ML=4/1), #10 GRAND KITTEN (ML=6/1),

ANOTHER SUNRISE - This vulnerable equine will in all probability be pulling up the rear as this field crosses the finish. CHILLICOTHE - I don't have a good sensation about this pony in this affair. GRAND KITTEN - Hasn't been getting close at all of late. Finished seventh in his most recent performance with a pedestrian speed rating. When I look at today's class figure, it would take an improved performance to win after that in this field.

Top HatGUEST COMMENTARY: The Brain - STRONGHAMMER - A tried and true angle. Take a sprinter in the third and fourth start after a mini 'vacation'. That's the time when they peak.

CHEAP O CHARLIE - Always watch out for the longer priced animal when a trainer has an 'uncoupled' entry in a race. The most dangerous animal in racing is the lone speed horse. If they let him get away early they probably won't catch him. Whitehouse brings him right back. I advise you stay with this strong gelding. (EPS) earnings per start is something that I feel can be a very key handicapping aspect. This thoroughbred is ranked number 1 in this group.

Vulnerable Contenders: #6 COCKTAILS AT SIX (ML=3/1), #5 SO BE IT (ML=7/2), #2 JUST MISUNDERSTOOD (ML=9/2),

COCKTAILS AT SIX - Today's race is 7 1/2 furlongs. Hasn't finished in the money in a sprint clash in the last sixty days. Not the greatest of signals. SO BE IT - No success for this less than sharp equine in a short distance contest over the last couple months tells me that this colt is in a difficult spot won't be easy for this racer to beat this field off of that last speed figure. Unlikely to improve enough to run a figure close to today's Equibase class figure, so put him on the vulnerable competitors list. JUST MISUNDERSTOOD - Didn't finish in the money on December 27th after the long turnout. Be doubtful of this animal this time out. This gelding finished out of the money on Sep 9th and wasn't even close last time out either.
