NCAAB Game of the Day: West Virginia at Texas Christian betting preview and odds

WVU's Jevon Carter is averaging a team-high 16.9 points and is shooting 41.4 percent, but his numbers dip to 14.9 points and 35.9 percent from the field in Big 12 play.

No. 7 West Virginia Mountaineers at No. 25 Texas Christian Horned Frogs (+1, 160)

West Virginia will try to run its all-time record against TCU to 12-0 when the No. 7 Mountaineers visit the No. 25 Horned Frogs for a Big 12 game on Monday night. West Virginia bounced back from back-to-back losses to No. 8 Texas Tech and No. 10 Kansas and defeated Texas 86-51 on Saturday night.

TCU coach Jamie Dixon drew a second technical foul on Saturday night and was ejected in the second half of a 73-68 loss to Kansas State, the fourth loss in the past four games for TCU, which was ranked as high as No. 8 in the coaches' poll the week following Christmas. The Horned Frogs enter this week tied for last in the Big 12 with Baylor and Iowa State, the only teams TCU has defeated in conference play this season. The Horned Frogs had their best chance to beat the Mountaineers at TCU last season, but Daxter Miles Jr. made a free throw with 4.8 seconds left to break a 60-60 tie and West Virginia held on for the one-point win. Miles is back and so are the two leading scorers from last season, forward Esa Ahmad and point guard Jevon Carter.

LINE HISTORY: West Virginia opened as one-point road favorites and, as of publication time for this preview, that pointspread has yet to move. The total hit betting boards at 160 and has also been steady.

ABOUT WEST VIRGINIA (16-3 SU, 8-7 ATS, 6-9 O/U): Carter is averaging a team-high 16.9 points and is shooting 41.4 percent, but his numbers dip to 14.9 points and 35.9 percent from the field in Big 12 play. Carter's strength is on defense, however, and the former Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year is averaging 3.3 steals a game, which ranks second in the nation through Sunday. Ahmad has played three games since coming off an 18-game absence because of academic suspension and the 6-foot-8 senior is averaging 13.8 points and six rebounds in those games.

ABOUT TCU (14-5 SU, 9-9 ATS, 13-5 O/U): West Virginia will need to find an answer for TCU's strength down low, particularly against 6-foot-7 guard Kenrich Williams and 6-foot-11 forward Vladimir Brodziansky. Williams has reached double figures in points and rebounds nine times this season, and is averaging 14.7 points and a team-leading 9.4 rebounds. Brodziansky averages a team-high 15.4 points and is shooting 60.5 percent from the floor, but has been even more productive in conference play, averaging 18.7 points, including three games with 20 or more.

The Coyotes own the leagues worst record but NHL parity reared its ugly head this past weekend when they notched a surprising win vs , the St. Louis, by a 5-2 count . Previous to that aforementioned victory the Coyotes lost six games and seven of their previous nine and once again look like fade material vs a streaky and explosive NY Islanders team chalk loaded full of young talent. Meanwhile, the Isles beat the Blackhawks in Chicago by a 7-3 count last time out in what looked like a old fashioned 70's style end to end shoot out. The Islanders have looked particularly stronger on the road, away from the bad ice of Barclays, and have now won three straight while posing 19 goals. With that said, despite of Arizona getting a win last time out, they are still only 5-14-3 on home ice and once again look like fade material vs a team that you have to outscore to beat, which is a hard thing for Arizona as they average just 2.3 gpg at home while allowing , 3.5 goals per game.
