#8 MAHVELOUS KITTEN (ML=3/1)

MAHVELOUS KITTEN - Speed ratings on the turf point to this racer as a legit contender. Has the best in the field for this distance-surface. Have to watch for this animal on the turf. Last race at Gulfstream Park, scored a big turf number. Have to think she can do it again in this event. Filly looks like the lone speed here. She may turn the race into a procession. I like horses that return to a similar class level after dropping at least five class rating pts like this one did last race out. I believe she'll be competitive at this class. A definite class advantage goes to this horse. What that tells me is she will be very competitive in this turf race. That 79 fig this filly garnered in her last clash tells me she's a main player today. Came home fast in the last race at Gulfstream Park. That type of move bodes well for her chances in today's race.

SOLDAT THE TOP - Really had to give me a whole lot more last time out. Never made much of an impact. THANKS MOM - The speed rating last time out doesn't fit very well in this clash when I look at the class rating of today's contest. Mark this thoroughbred as a possibly overvalued equine. MICHELLE'Z LAUGH - A stretch-runner like this one needs an early speed duel to set things up and she isn't likely to get one this time. Finished fifth in her most recent race with a run-of-the-mill speed fig. When I look at today's class rating, it would take an improved performance to win after that in this field.

Top HatGUEST COMMENTARY: Winston - MAHVELOUS KITTEN - I always look at the horse that is tops in earnings per start. If she meets my qualifications I make a play.

CATFEINATED - Looking at today's class rating, this thoroughbred is meeting an easier bunch than last race out at Sam Houston. Diego and Asmussen have had fantastic success together over this last year. A pony coming back this promptly after a strong effort is a good sign. Just look at his recent fig, 74. That one fits in this bunch. CACTUS SON - This gelding is back in a race very quick. This is a great angle - Sprinters that come back in less than 10 days after a race. A good sign of a sharp and ready racehorse. Gelding's finish positions keep getting better with each race. Maybe today's the day. I think Sam Houston players know a good thing when they see the jock/conditioner tandem of Diego and Asmussen. Their win percentage together has been positive. Another way to assign class is earnings per start. This animal has the uppermost in the field. I think he'll be close at the finish line.

Vulnerable Contenders: #8 LOTTO CAT (ML=2/1), #6 RUN LIKE ELLE (ML=4/1), #7 PURE CHROME (ML=5/1),

LOTTO CAT - This mount just hasn't looked fit lately. RUN LIKE ELLE - Didn't show much last time. Probably won't make an impact in today's race. Pedestrian speed figure in the last race at Delta Downs at 6 1/2 furlongs. Don't think this vulnerable equine will improve too much in today's race. PURE CHROME - Not probable for this one to make an impact with no recent good showings in a sprint event. This racer hasn't shown much life in the last couple of contests. Not probable that the speed rating he earned on January 19th will be enough in this clash.

Top HatGUEST COMMENTARY: The Brain - CACTUS SON - Consider this. Finished fourth on a track listed as good last time out. With better footing today, I'd expect a 30 pct improvement in form.

Is a contender - given the 91 speed rating from his most recent race. CALL IT LUKE - Gordon has well above average gains at this distance/surface. Could best this group of animals based on the Equibase Speed Figure - 89 - of his last race. DEL RIO HARBOR - Have to love when any horse makes a quick major improvement. His earnings per start in dirt route races alone makes you take a look at him.
