The Trail Blazers are in need of a win after that disastrous road trip where they were blown out twice and beaten at the buzzer in the other contest. Portland’s margin for error is razor thin right now as the Clippers and Jazz are climbing the ladder. Playing at home against a Charlotte team with an 8-16 road mark, look for the Trail Blazers to prevail.

This is a big number, but this one looks like a blowout all the way. Toronto is fielding their best team probably ever this season. They haven’t been quite good enough to challenge for a championship the last couple years but this season they are the real deal and we think they are the main challenger to Cleveland in the East this season, even over Boston. Toronto has done great as a big favorite this season as they are 7-3 ATS when laying nine or more points. That means that this team takes care of business against lousy teams. We think the Knicks will be looking forward to the All-Star Break more than the Raptors as Toronto knows that they have to keep winning. We think they will be very focused here and we expect a double-digit win for the home club. New York is reeling after the loss of Porzingis for the season and they will have to regroup during the all-star break.

University of Portland is up trending in my power rankings and own some key late season momentum as they enter this West Coast Conference road trip to San Francisco . The Pilots have revenge on board for a loss they suffered at home to the Dons, on Dec 30th and will be primed and motivated to get some payback here tonight. Portland swept Pepperdine and Loyola Marymount at home last week and have now won four of the last six games. The two losses during the run have come against nationally ranked opponents in Gonzaga and Saint Mary's. This is a program that must be respected, as HC Terry Porter's 2017 recruiting class was ranked No. 10 nationally by HoopScoop. The class was the highest rated in the WCC and No. 2 nationally among mid-majors. Needless to say this team is a viable underdog in this spot.

The Oklahoma City Thunder are coming off a huge 125-105 road win at Golden State. They had lost four straight prior to that victory, which came out of nowhere. I think they will suffer a bit of a letdown here agains the Los Angeles Lakers, who come in playing some great basketball. The Lakers are 7-2 SU & 7-2 ATS in their last nine games overall. I realize they traded away Jordan Clarkson and Larry Nance today, but those two weren’t a big part of this run. And the Thunder have their own issues. Both Russell Westbrook (ankle) and Carmelo Anthony (ankle) are questionable tonight for OKC. Westbrook in particular is looking highly unlikely to suit up. The Lakers just won 108-104 in OKC on February 4th. The Thunder are 3-15 ATS when revving a loss against opponent as a favorite this season. Los Angeles is 8-0 ATS off a home win by 10 points or more this season. Give me the Lakers.

Tonight, they travel to Stockton where the Tigers play a pretty strong game. Gonzaga, on an 0-3-1 ATS road slide, is in a bad spot. They're a money burning 6-20-1 ATS on the road following three straight home games. Tigers, however, are 9-1 ATS in their last 10 games overall and eager to end an 11-0 SU drought in this series. Tigers' top gun Reynolds heating up (22.5 PPG last 2 games) and has some scrappy hard playing support tonight. Home team 6-2 ATS in this series and we'll side with Pacific.

This is what some NBA bettors think as they have pushed the total up two points to 217. The Thunder have not as good defensively since losing Andre Roberson, but both Carmelo Anthony and Russell Westbrook are a little dinged. I have VPID Super System that favors the UNDER on teams like OKC off an upset, taking on a foe who just beat a division rival.

Charlotte is a bad road team losing 16 of 24 away contests. This is the Hornets' third of four consecutive road games. The trade deadline is today. There have been rumors about the Hornets dealing their best player, Kemba Walker. So Charlotte might not have its full focus. They also could be short-handed if they do happen to make a deal. Portland returns home in stop-the-pain mode. The Trail Blazers went 0-3 on their road trip. However, those losses were to the two best teams in the Eastern Conference - Celtics and Raptors - plus the suddenly hot Pistons, who have won five in a row. So there is no shame in those defeats. The Trail Blazers have covered eight of their last nine home games against the Hornets. Portland even defeated the Hornets at Charlotte, 93-91, on Dec. 16 holding Walker to 14 points. Portland has been at its best against bad teams winning 17 of 22 versus opponents who are at .500 or below. Porland has had two full days to rest, recover and game plan for this matchup since returning home. Charlotte has failed to cover in its last five matchups versus Western Conference foes. I'll gladly take a shot here with Boston as an underdog against the Wizards in Thursday's showdown on TNT. The Celtics are in a prime bounce back spot after a lackluster effort in Tuesday's 20-point blowout loss at Toronto. Not only will they be motivated to get back on track, but they will also be out for revenge from a home loss to Washington on Christmas Day. Boston is 12-2 ATS when revenging a home loss this season and are 10-2 ATS as an underdog this year.
The other thing here is I think the Wizards are overvalued right now. They have gone 5-1 without John Wall and there's talk about the team being better without their superstar point guard. It's not uncommon for a team to surge after a key player goes down, as everyone tries to step up their game. It's not something that can be sustained over a long period and last time out the Wizards lost by 13-points at the 76ers. I just think with Boston locked in and their ability to lockdown defensively, Washington will be completely outmatched in this one. Give me the Celtics +1.5!
