Well folks, this race is named for the upper-middle-class - middle-class neighborhood of Rego Park in central Queens which may not be as well-known as adjoining Forest Hills, but has much to offer both residents and visitors. Large apartment buildings dominate the housing, but there are also multi-family and single-family homes. The excellent transportation options, the quality of local schools, and the variety of shopping, including Rego Park Center and numerous Russian specialty food stores as well as the gigantic Russian supermarket, Net Cost Market, are a draw for both the local Bukharian Jewish community. Here in the initial running of "The Rego," #2 NEW YORK HERO, has hit the board in "POWER RUN FASHION" in each of his three career starts to date, including a 9-length, "POWER RUN WIN" to break his maiden in his 2nd race back. Jockey Junior Alvarado and Trainer Linda Rice send him "postward" for the "Sunday Feature" ... they've hit the board with 57% of their 33 entries saddled as a team to date. #1 BATTLE STATION, the overall speed and pace profile leader, has hit the board in "POWER RUN FASHION" in three of his last five outings, including back-to-back "POWER RUN WINS" in his 4th and 5th races back.

Ought to be carefully examined as he drops to compete against this less demanding field of horses. Should be given a shot in this event if only for the respectable speed figure posted in the last affair. LIL MISS TAKE - Look for this equine to be right there on the wire versus these ponies. C. C. TOP - Quite good selection to take this race going in a dirt sprint.

This filly is certainly on the improve with Equibase speed figures of 93, 103, 108 last three out. BEAUTIFUL BECCA - You always have to be on the patrol for revenue generating jockey/trainer tandems; we have it right here. Last ran at Santa Anita and finished fourth. Reviewing her past performance lines, I see she was close at the wire, within 5 of the winner. Came home in fast time last time around the track. A positive sign. SHAZARA - You always have to be on the patrol for bankroll building jock/conditioner tandems; we have one right here. Last ran at Santa Anita and finished sixth. LUCY DE - Don't think this runner will make a winning move today. That last speed fig was run-of-the-mill when compared with today's class rating. NODIAC (IRE) - This mare is always hitting the board, but just doesn't finish first. Tough to play her on the win end. Finished fourth in her most recent effort with a mediocre speed figure. When I look at today's class figure, it would take an improved performance to prove victorious after that in this field.
