      Preview: Texas at Oklahoma
      Gracenote
      Feb 16, 2018

Oklahoma was still very much in the thick of the Big 12 race when it last faced Texas, but the Sooners find themselves in a position where they may be hard-pressed to break even in conference play only two weeks later. No. 23 Oklahoma attempts to snap a four-game slide and avenge the defeat that started their losing streak Saturday when it hosts the Longhorns.

The Sooners controlled most of the game and held a nine-point edge with less than eight minutes remaining in the last edition of the Red River Rivalry on Feb. 3 before Texas went on a 14-0 run en route to a 79-74 victory in Austin. Oklahoma dropped a two-point decision at home to West Virginia two days later, lost at Iowa State last Saturday and fell under .500 in Big 12 play following Tuesday's 88-78 setback at conference-leading Texas Tech. Things haven't been much better for the Longhorns since beating the Sooners, sandwiching a pair of one-possession defeats around a blowout loss at TCU last weekend. Texas suffered its third straight loss Monday, giving up a follow-up dunk with eight seconds left to fall 74-73 to Baylor in double overtime.

      TV: Noon ET, ESPN

ABOUT TEXAS (15-11, 5-8 Big 12): The Longhorns, who rank 329th in the country in 3-point percentage (conference-worst 32.1), were unable to follow up on their 10-for-20 performance beyond the arc versus TCU, finishing 3-for-19 and including a 1-for-12 effort from the starting five. Matt Coleman (8.8 points, 4.5 assists) enjoyed his best offensive effort (15 points against the Bears) since pouring in a career-high 22 against Oklahoma, but the freshman guard is averaging only 10 points on 11-of-31 shooting over those three contests. Mohamed Bamba (13.7 points, 10.8 rebounds) leads the conference with 13 double-doubles - including five in his last seven outings - after tallying 16 points and tying a season high with 16 boards Monday.

ABOUT OKLAHOMA (16-9, 6-7): Trae Young continues to lead the country in scoring (29.1 points) and assists (9.3), but the freshman sensation is shooting only 35.4 percent (17.1 percent beyond the arc) in his last four games and is coming off a game in which he failed to hit a 3-pointer for the first time in his career (0-for-9). Junior Christian James (12.4 points) has delivered the first two 20-point performances over the last two contests, averaging 22.5 points on 16-of-30 shooting. Rashard Odomes (7.8) scored 15 points in the first meeting to cap off a three-game stretch in which he averaged 16, but the 6-6 junior has totaled 17 points over the last three contests.

      TIP-INS

      1. Oklahoma senior C Khadeem Lattin needs two more blocks to break the program record for the most in a career held by Al Beal (229).

      2. Texas played in its sixth overtime game last Saturday, matching a school record for the most in a season.

      3. The Sooners have won five straight home games against the Longhorns and are 11-1 in Norman this season.

      PREDICTION: Oklahoma 83, Texas 72

Preview: Iowa State at Kansas State
          Gracenote
          Feb 16, 2018

With Kamau Stokes coming off the bench, Kansas State coach Bruce Weber hopes he has found a solution to the Wildcats’ lack of production from his reserves. Sitting alone in fourth place in the Big 12, the Wildcats look to sweep the season series and keep Iowa State winless on the road when the teams meet Saturday.

Stokes, a 5-10 junior guard who had started 70 of his first 71 career games, missed nearly a month this season with a broken foot and has been coming off the bench in the four games since his return, scoring 11 points and knocking down three 3-pointers in an 82-72 victory over Oklahoma State on Wednesday. The Wildcats' bench totaled 24 points - the most since collecting 30 against USC Upstate on Dec. 5. "He gives us some leadership, some experience off the bench," junior guard Barry Brown said of Stokes, who is averaging 11.5 points this season but has scored just 17 in limited minutes since his return. "He has been here for a few years now. Having him come off the bench and still take a leadership role out there on the court is big time.” Iowa State, which is 0-7 in true road games this season, dropped an 83-77 decision against Kansas on Tuesday as leading scorers Lindell Wigginton and Donovan Jackson combined for 15 points on 4-of-21 shooting from the field.

          TV: 1 p.m., ET ESPNU

ABOUT IOWA STATE (13-12, 4-9 Big 12): Wigginton (16.2 points) and Jackson (15.0), who both shoot over 40 percent beyond the arc, shot a combined 2-of-13 from 3-point range against the Jayhawks, costing the Cyclones a chance for the upset. “Sometimes it’s a make-or-miss game, too,” coach Steve Prohm said. “We didn’t shoot it well enough … You just have to make two or three of them out of those 13 and it’s a different game.” Nick Weiler-Babb had 14 points, eight rebounds and five assists in 22 minutes off the bench in his first action since missing four games with a knee injury, and freshman Cameron Lard (13.2 points, 8.2 rebounds) continued his stellar season with 19 points on 7-of-11 shooting and 11 rebounds.

ABOUT KANSAS STATE (18-8, 7-6): The Wildcats broke open a close game against the Cowboys with a 19-4 run to end the first half, as Brown finished with 25 points, Xavier Sneed 13 and Dean Wade 12. Brown (16.0 points, 3.5 assists, 1.9 steals) had scored just 37 points on 13-of-49 shooting over his previous five games. In the Big 12 opener on Dec. 29, Wade scored 34 points, Stokes 23 and Brown 21 as the Wildcats beat the Cyclones 91-75.

          TIP-INS

          1. The Wildcats lead the all-time series 138-87, including 80-24 in Manhattan, but the Cyclones have won two straight at Bramlage Coliseum.

          2. Wade (16.1 points, 6.3 rebounds) has scored in double figures in all 13 conference games.

          3. Prior to scoring 82 points and shooting 54.9 percent against the Cowboys, the Wildcats had averaged 55.4 points on 36.8 percent shooting over their previous five games.

              Preview: Michigan State at Northwestern
              Gracenote
              Feb 16, 2018

No. 1 Michigan State looks to win its 10th straight and take another step towards the regular-season title in the Big Ten when it travels to Northwestern for a Saturday matchup. The Spartans are tied with Ohio State for the top spot in the conference standings and are coming off a blowout win over Minnesota, while the Wildcats have dropped two straight heading into this game, which will be played in Rosemont, Ill., Northwestern's home court this season.

Forward Miles Bridges leads the way for coach Tom Izzo's squad, averaging 17.3 points, but he's coming off a five-point performance on 1-of-7 shooting against the Golden Gophers. Freshman Jaren Jackson Jr. more than picked up the slack, going for a career-high 27 points, including 5-of-8 shooting from 3-point range, and blocking three shots as he showed his tremendous potential. The Wildcats have four double-figure scorers, led by Scottie Lindsey's 14.6 points per game and Bryant McIntosh's 12.1 points and 5.2 assists per contest, but they've only averaged 69.9 points as a team. Defensively, Northwestern is holding teams to 65.9 points, but they'll have a battle on their hands against the Spartans, who have the highest-scoring offense in the league (83.3 points).

              TV: 2 p.m. ET, Fox

ABOUT MICHIGAN STATE (25-3, 13-2 Big Ten): The Spartans have one of the top front lines in college basketball, but they also have a deadly amount of shooters from long range, with the ability to put together a fast run with 3-pointers. Against Minnesota, Michigan State went 6-for-6 from beyond the arc to start the game, with guard Cassius Winston hitting three, Jackson two and Bridges one to go up 18-6 in less than five minutes. With five players hitting at least 35 3-pointers this season -- Winston (58), Bridges (55), Matt McQuaid (45), Joshua Langford (36) and Jackson (35) -- defenses get stretched to the limit trying to guard all the shooters, opening up driving lanes and room in the post for forward Nick Ward and making the Spartans one of the harder teams to defend in the country.

ABOUT NORTHWESTERN (15-12, 6-8): There has never been a doubt to how valuable McIntosh is to the Northwestern offense, running the show for coach Chris Collins and setting up teammates or scoring himself. So when he was sidelined for most of the second half and overtime against Rutgers with an apparent shoulder injury, it wasn't a surprise that the Wildcats struggled, going from a nine-point halftime advantage to an overtime setback. There's no word on McIntosh's availability against Michigan State, but without him, Anthony Gaines will be pressed into more duty and a very short Northwestern bench becomes even shorter against one of the deeper teams in the country.

              TIP-INS

              1. Michigan State has scored at least 80 points 16 times this season, putting together a 15-1 record in those contests.

              2. Northwestern F Dererk Pardon is third in the Big Ten in field-goal percentage, hitting 62.6 percent of his shots.

              3. The Spartans have won 24 of the last 26 meetings in this series, including the last eight straight.

PREDICTION: Michigan State 82, Northwestern 70

                  Feb 16, 2018

Indiana looks to extend its winning streak to a season-long four games when it faces Iowa on the road Saturday. The Hoosiers cruised past Rutgers (65-43) and Minnesota (80-56) last week before beating Illinois 78-68 on Wednesday to clinch a first-round bye in the Big Ten tournament, and hope to continue their late push for an NIT bid by sweeping the season series with the Hawkeyes, following a 77-64 win on Dec. 4.

"We're playing as well as we have all season and guys are enjoying playing with one another," Indiana coach Archie Miller told reporters. "We're more confident and guys are understanding what we're asking them to do." Iowa has dropped four consecutive games following a 74-59 loss to No. 21 Michigan on Wednesday. The Hawkeyes have surrendered at least 80 points in five of their last six outings and are on pace to finish with their most Big Ten losses in a single season since suffering 14 in 2010-11, which was Fran McCaffery's first year in charge. Iowa is ranked 310th nationally in scoring defense (78.3) and hopes to slow down the hot-shooting Hoosiers, who have finished 50 percent or better from the floor in five of their last eight games.

                  TV: 2 p.m. ET, ESPN

ABOUT INDIANA (15-12, 8-7 Big Ten): Juwan Morgan scored 14 points to go along with 10 rebounds and five blocks in the win against Illinois to register his eighth double-double of the season. Robert Johnson added 14 points and six rebounds to move into 26th place on the program's all-time scoring list with 1,339 points, while freshman Aljami Durham tallied 14 points as the Hoosiers shot 59.1 percent from the field against the Fighting Illini. Devonte Green suffered an ankle injury in the second half but is expected to recover in time to face the Hawkeyes.

ABOUT IOWA (12-16, 3-12): Freshman centre Luka Garza led the way with 22 points to go along with six rebounds, but the Hawkeyes were undone by 16 turnovers. "My teammates were giving me the ball in a position I could score," Garza told reporters. "I've continued to do a better job being less antsy with the ball and I'm at my best when I'm just playing and not overthinking." Isaiah Moss added 12 points, while Tyler Cook contributed 10 points and a team-high eight rebounds against the Wolverines.

                  TIP-INS

                  1. Indiana has won four of the last five meetings with Iowa.

                  2. The Hawkeyes haven't lost five straight games in over seven years.

                  3. Morgan is averaging 19 points and 8.8 rebounds over his last five games.

                  PREDICTION: Indiana 83, Iowa 77

                      Preview: Alabama at Kentucky
                      Gracenote
                      Feb 16, 2018

Alabama is determined to get back to the NCAA Tournament for just the second time in 12 years. The Crimson Tide are playing some of their best basketball of the season, and will look to extend their winning streak to three games Saturday as they visit SEC rival Kentucky.

Having not participated in March Madness since 2012, the Avery Johnson-led Crimson Tide came into the season just looking to improve on last year's sixth-place conference showing. But they've done much, much more than that, winning each of their past five games against ranked teams - most recently a 78-50 drubbing of Tennessee that Alabama followed up with a comfortable 15-point triumph over LSU. Next up: A road date with a Wildcats team that had high hopes heading into the season but is stumbling to the finish line, having dropped four consecutive games. Wednesday's 10-point loss to Auburn gave coach John Calipari his longest losing streak since taking the reins in 2009.

                      TV: 2 p.m. ET, CBS

ABOUT ALABAMA (17-9, 8-5 SEC): Much of the focus in Tuscaloosa has been on freshman Collin Sexton, who is enjoying a terrific campaign in which he is averaging a team-best 18.3 points per game and has scored in double figures in six straight games entering the weekend. But he's getting plenty of scoring help, as three other Crimson Tide players are averaging 10 or more points; Alabama had just two players in double figures last season. Donta Hall is second on the team in scoring at 11.4 points and has been the team's best player over the past two games, averaging 18.5 points on 16-of-20 shooting while contributing 9.5 rebounds, 2.5 blocked shots and two steals.

ABOUT KENTUCKY (17-9, 6-7): The Wildcats rank inside the top 100 nationally in field goal percentage (46.6) but have been far worse in two key areas, sitting 273rd in free-throw success rate (68.6 percent) and 285th in 3-point shooting (32.9 percent). Team scoring leader Kevin Knox (15.5 ppg) is averaging 18.5 points over his past two games after being held to just 15 combined points over the first two games of Kentucky's current losing skid. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander broke out with a 30-point game in an overtime victory over Vanderbilt on Jan. 30 but was limited to just nine points last time out against the Tigers; he has misfired on all six of his 3-point attempts during the Wildcats' losing streak.

                      TIP-INS

                      1. Three of Alabama's five wins over ranked opponents have come by 18 points or more.

                      2. Hall ranks second in the country in field-goal percentage (74.5).

                      3. Kentucky has made just 125 3-pointers; only seven Division I schools have connected on fewer.

                      PREDICTION: Alabama 76, Kentucky 73

Tulane's once-promising season is heading toward the finishing stretch with a whimper as the team plods through a stretch of four straight losses. The Green Wave will try to stay above .500 and win for just the third time in the last 11 games when they host Memphis on Saturday.

Tulane sat at 11-4 after beating SMU on Jan. 4 in its third American Athletic Conference game but has since dropped eight of 10 -- a stretch that began with a 96-89 loss at Memphis on Jan. 9. The Green Wave suffered their most embarrassing defeat on Sunday with a 72-43 setback at Houston but showed some resiliency while taking East Carolina to the wire at home on Wednesday and coming up one basket short in an 82-80 loss. The Tigers snapped a three-game slide with a 73-70 triumph at SMU on Wednesday despite being without leading scorer Jeremiah Martin, who sat with a hip injury but could return in time for Saturday's contest. "Without Jeremiah Martin, that was a heck of an effort," Memphis head coach Tubby Smith told reporters. "And any win on the road is a good win."

                            TV: 2 p.m. ET, ESPNU

ABOUT MEMPHIS (15-11, 6-7 AAC): Only two of the 10 players that saw time in Wednesday's win were on the team last season, and finishing with a winning record in the conference would be a step in the right direction. "We knew this season would be a tough one as far as so many new faces. I love the way our new guys stepped up tonight," Smith told reporters after Wednesday's win. "You don't find this. I've never experienced this. I don't think any coach in America is probably having to deal with so many new faces." The Tigers will play four of their final five games against teams below them in the AAC standings, including the Green Wave.

ABOUT TULANE (13-12, 4-9): The Green Wave fell into a 39-15 hole at halftime in the loss to Houston and started off slow again on Wednesday before fighting back and falling just short. "I thought we were going to be able to pull it out the whole time because we just kept fighting," senior guard Cameron Reynolds told reporters. "...We just have to come out in the first half and handle business. That's been our downfall for the whole year." Reynolds scored 23 points in the loss and posted at least 16 in four of the last five games.

                            TIP-INS

                            1. Tulane freshman G Chase Daniels is 5-of-9 from 3-point range over the last three games and is shooting 38.5 percent from beyond the arc on the season.

                            2. Memphis senior F Jimario Rivers went scoreless on 0-of-7 shooting Wednesday and is 1-of-12 from the floor over the last three contests.

                            3. The Tigers took the last four in the series, with Martin's 31 points leading the way in the first meeting this season.

                                Feb 16, 2018

Boston College looks to snap a 10-game losing streak to Notre Dame as the Eagles host the Fighting Irish on Saturday afternoon. The streak began in 2005 when both were Big East members and includes a 96-85 victory when the teams met in South Bend 11 days ago.

T.J. Gibbs scored a career-high 28 and senior Matt Farrell added 19 points and seven assists as Notre Dame ended a seven-game losing streak with its highest-scoring conference game of the season in the victory over the Eagles on Feb. 6. The Fighting Irish were able to withstand an incredible performance from BC's Jerome Robinson in which he broke the Purcell Pavilion opponent scoring record with 46 points on 15-of-23 shooting and 7-of-12 from 3-point range. BC is 2-0 since the loss in South Bend, with a 72-70 victory over Miami on Feb. 10 and an 81-58 win over last-place Pittsburgh on Tuesday. Notre Dame followed up the BC victory with an 84-69 win versus Florida State but then lost 83-66 at No. 16 North Carolina on Monday.

TV: 4 p.m. ET, ACC Network

ABOUT NOTRE DAME (15-11, 5-8 ACC): Farrell's return to the lineup after missing five games in January has brought the offense back to life as the senior has 21 assists in his last three games and the Fighting Irish are averaging 82 points per game in those matches. His ability to distribute has also opened up the outside shooting game as Notre Dame has hit 10 or more 3-pointers in its last three games, including a season-high 16 against BC. Sophomore John Mooney is coming off a career night against the Tar Heels in which he scored 18 points on 6-of-6 3-point shooting, while senior Martinas Geben was efficient with 18 points in 17 minutes on 8-of-9 shooting from the floor.

ABOUT BOSTON COLLEGE (16-10, 6-7): Robinson, second in ACC scoring at 20.7 points per game, shook off a two-point first half and went 10-for-12 the rest of the way to finish with 27 as the Eagles outscored Pitt 49-24 in the second half for their first ACC road win in almost three years. The junior guard is averaging a eye-popping 34 points per game over his last three and has hit on 50 percent of his shots or better in nine straight games. Rebounding was also key against the Panthers as BC outrebounded Pitt 43-22, including an 18-2 advantage on the offensive glass.

                                TIP-INS

                                1. Gibbs has reached double-digits in scoring in 14 straight games.

                                2. BC had 19 assists against Pitt, tying a season high.

                                3. Notre Dame is 4-8 without ACC Preseason Player of the Year Bonzie Colson (foot surgery in early January) but his return is on the horizon as the team said he has one week left in his recovery.
