My 1* Free Play is on the LA Kings (8:35 EST).
LA broke a three-game slide with a 4-2 win over Buffalo on Saturday, while Chicago snapped an eight-game skid with a 7-1 win over Washington at home on Saturday.
If recent history is any precedence though then the Kings have to be loving their chances tonight as they’ve already taken the one other lone meeting between the clubs, 3-1 on December 3rd.
LA averages 2.8 GPG and it concedes 2.5. Overall the Kings have been dominant on the penalty kill this season, ranked third overall in staving off 83.4 percent of opposing chances. John Quick made 33 saves in the most recent victory over the Sabres.
Chicago averages and concedes 2.9 GPG. The Blackhawks looked pretty good against the Capitals, but I’ll obviously caution in reading too much into one decent performance as it was Chicago’s first win in over a month.
Additionally I’ll point out that the Kings are 4-1 in their last five against teams with losing records, while the Blackhawks are just 1-9 in their last ten when playing on one days rest.
LA is still in the thick of a playoff berth, while Chicago’s inconsistent season can’t come to an end soon enough for Blackhawks’ fans.
I give LA the nod in net and that’s going to be more than enough to tip the scales in its favor in my opinion. Consider a second look at the visitors in this matchup.

NHL | Senators vs Predators

I envision Nashville coach Peter Laviolette having his team fired up to stop a two-game home losing streak. So does the oddsmaker making the Predators a huge favorite. I'm not going to lay a price that high, but I will back Nashville on the puck line getting a plus price if the Predators should win by more than one goal - which I expect to happen. The Senators enter this matchup fat and happy having won two in a row, including defeating the Rangers, 6-3, at home on Saturday. Now the Senators take to the road where they have lost the past three times all by three goals. Ottawa ranks 26th in scoring and gives up the third-most goals. The Senators have especially weak special teams. Ottawa ranks among the bottom-four in power play goals and penalty killing. Their poor special teams are just the antidote for the Predators to break out of their mini losing streak. (Editor's note: Stephen Nover is well on his way to beating the NHL for a third straight season going 8-4 on his last 12 plays for 67 percent. I just think we are getting too much value here with the Gophers here. I know Minnesota comes in having lost 8 straight and are dealing with some injuries, but Wisconsin isn't deserving of being this big of a favorite. Keep in mind they were just a 3.5-point home favorite against Nebraska and a 4.5-point home favorite against Illinois.
The biggest key here for me is I just don't trust the Badgers in this spot. Wisconsin is coming off a shocking 57-53 home win over Purdue as a 11-point dog. The Badgers really invested a lot into that game and now are in a prime spot for a letdown. Keep in mind this is a young team and aren't use to this role as the overwhelming favorite.
Wisconsin is 5-13 ATS in their last 18 off a conference win and 2-8 ATS in their last 10 off a cover. I wouldn't be shocked here if Minnesota pulled off the upset. Give me the Gophers +7!

These are two teams hungry for a win and we expect that sense of desperation from each side to translate into production on the ice. Consider a second look at the OVER in this one.

The Vegas Golden Knights enter this game on a three-game winning streak, and they're a NHL-best 22-4-2 at home, outscoring the opposition 103-64.
Vegas also sits atop the NHL overall with 82 points, but the team has no intention of taking the foot off the gas pedal if you ask defenseman Brad Hunt. "We want to play the same way that has made us successful. We want to remain the same and stay with it. It’s cool to have the (most points in the league), but we just take it day by day and get ready for Anaheim."
The Ducks come in off back-to-back wins, the most recent a 3-2 shootout victory at Minnesota, but Vegas has won each of the three previous meetings, including a 4-3 shootout victory on Dec. 5 here at T-Mobile Arena.
