Karlsson was considered the biggest prize ahead of Monday's trade deadline, but the Senators opted to hang onto him; the Golden Knights, who entered Wednesday night at +750 on Bet365 to win the Stanley Cup in their inaugural season, were considered the front-runners for his services. Karlsson is under contract through the end of the 2018-19 season.

Eastern Conference Naval Battle

The NHL's Stadium Series has brought professional hockey to some truly unique locales - but Saturday's encounter between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Washington Capitals takes the sport to a whole new place. The Maple Leafs and Capitals will do battle outdoors on the campus of the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. Philly's Florida Adventure

The Philadelphia Flyers have streaked their way into the mix for top spot in the Metropolitan Division - and they'll look to snag a pivotal four points this coming weekend as they visit the Sunshine State. The Flyers take on the Tampa Bay Lightning at Amalie Arena on Saturday before heading to Sunrise for a Sunday encounter with the Florida Panthers. Philadelphia has been one of the strongest road teams in the conference at 18-10-4 entering the weekend - and will be looking to secure a pair of season series victories, having split their first two meetings with both teams.

* The San Jose Sharks have rewarded goaltender Aaron Dell, signing the late bloomer to a two-year contract extension worth $3.8 million. The 29-year-old has been a revelation, going 14-5-3 with a 2.71 goals-against average and a .912 save percentage.

* After failing to find a trade partner for Mike Green, the Detroit Red Wings are reportedly interested in signing the veteran blue-liner to a contract extension. Green has six goals and 23 assists through 56 games but has been hampered by an upper-body injury.

* The Pittsburgh Penguins have locked up an important member of their top-six forward corps, signing Patric Hornqvist to a five-year extension worth an average of $5.3 million per season. Hornqvist sits seventh on the team in scoring heading into the weekend.

Injury Updates

* The NHL's leading scorer might be out of commission through the weekend. Tampa Bay forward Nikita Kucherov, who leads the Art Ross Trophy race with 82 points, is out with an undisclosed upper-body injury; the team has confirmed it is not a concussion.

* The Penguins' latest forward sensation will be out indefinitely after suffering an injury in practice. Rookie Zach Aston-Reese sustained an upper-body injury in a morning skate and will be out "longer term", according to head coach Mike Sullivan.

* Columbus Blue Jackets winger Josh Anderson is expected to miss about a month after suffering a knee sprain earlier this week against the Capitals. The 23-year-old has recorded 18 goals and 11 assists through his first 61 games this season.

Stanley Cup Futures

* Losing their leading scorer hasn't affected the Lightning's Stanley Cup odds - at least, not yet. Tampa Bay comes into the weekend at +450 on Bet365 to win the Stanley Cup, well ahead of the runner-up Nashville Predators (+650).

* There's quite a battle brewing for the top Stanley Cup title odds among Canadian teams. The Toronto Maple Leafs (+1,000) remain the best bet to end the north's lengthy championship drought, with the Winnipeg Jets close behind at +1,200.

* Life comes at you fast - just ask the St. Louis Blues, who were a live underdog just a few weeks ago but entered Wednesday on a seven-game losing skid and traded away forward Paul Stastny to Winnipeg. The Blues are now +3,500 to win the title.

Betting Trends

* Oddmakers have nailed the totals so far this season. Entering Wednesday night, there have been as many overs (450) as unders (450); better than 55 percent of games that have gone into extra time have wound up below the total.

* No team has produced more value for over bettors over the past month than the Lightning, who entered Wednesday's encounter with Detroit having gone 13-2-1 O/U in their past 16 games. Tampa Bay is 40-22-1 O/U for the season.

* Colorado's value to bettors has depended almost entirely on where the Avalanche have played. The Denver-based franchise has returned a league-best 1,278 units at Pepsi Center, but is at -274 units in 32 games away from Colorado.

I'm recommending grabbing the points with the Mustangs on Thursday. I just think UC-Riverside is getting way too much respect here at home. While Cal Poly is just 9-19 overall and 2-13 away from home, the Highlanders are just as bad at 8-20 overall and 5-8 on the home court. In fact, fading Riverside in this spot has been very profitable here of late.
The Highlanders are just 3-12 ATS over the last 3 seasons when listed as a favorite. They are also a miserable 5-18 ATS in their last 23 conference home games. They are also winless at 0-6 ATS at home over the last 3 seasons when playing a bad team that's won between 20% and 40% of their games.
These two teams played back on the final day of January and the Mustangs won 71-68 at home. It was quite the impressive win for Cal Poly, as they shot just 38.5% from the field, while the Highlanders connected on 48% of their attempts. I think we see improvement from the Mustangs and a big drop off from Riverside. Take Cal Poly!

The Missouri State Bears will certainly have the home-court edge tonight in their MVC Tournament opener as this game is played in St. Louis, Missouri. I think that will help them tremendously in getting a win and cover against Valparaiso.
I also believe Missouri State comes in undervalued after losing each of their final four games to close out the season. But three of those losses came by 4 points or less, so they simply had poor fortune in close games. Look for them to get back in the win column against a Valpo team they already beat 64-57 in their first meeting this season.
Valparaiso has been a big disappointment since early January. The Crusaders are just 4-9 SU in their last 13 games overall with three of their wins coming at home. They have gone just 5-12 in all road games this season.
