3-Unit Play. #714 Take Purdue (-4) over Butler (12:10 p.m., Sunday, March 18)
Purdue gets by Butler much easier than people will think. Issac Haas being out of course hurts but the Bulldogs aren't a big team, and I think the Boilermakers can really take care of business with a smaller line-up. All things considered, this line is really short. Give me the Big Ten over the Big East.
3-Unit Play. #717 Take Nevada (+8.5) over Cincinnati (6:10 p.m., Sunday, March 16)
Nevada has enough talent and confidence to win this game outright. I think they stand a better chance of doing that than Cincy does of winning and covering the spread. The Wolfpack fought off Texas in overtime on Friday, and here they step up for one of their better games played all season.
6-Unit Play. #724 Take Auburn (-1) over Clemson (7:10 p.m., Sunday, March 18)
A spot in the Sweet 16 is on the line for two teams that both surpassed expectations this year. So late in the year, the slightest thing can tilt the balance or throw a kink into the works. Every team is a good one at this point. If you want to hone in on any one thing, the biggest thing that stands out is Clemson missing Donte Grantham, who was lost for the season in January. That's just a big elephant in the room, as the SEC's Tigers have the complete team and much more depth and skill on the wings. It's March, so there is only so many stats and trends to throw on the table. Sometimes as much as anything, you go with a gut feeling or looking at a specific match-up and feeling out how you think two teams will clash. Auburn beats Clemson and books a spot to play next week.
3-Unit Play. #711 Take UMBC (+10) over Kansas State (7:45 p.m., Sunday, March 18)
UMBC didn't just pull off the biggest upset of all time just to get hammered by a far lesser team in K-State. Just saying. Even if UMBC goes out here, it won't be by double digits. Similar to the Nevada play, I believe there is a strongest chance of UMBC winning the game outright than there is for the Wildcats to win this game by ten or more. This will be a close game throughout, and the points will hold up regardless of who wins.
3-Unit Play. #720 Take Xavier (-5.5) over Florida State (8:20 p.m., Sunday, March 18)
Florida State hasn't been an overwhelming impressive team by any means this year. Xavier has been. Now you're saying FSU quite possibly could be without arguably their best player in Terrance Mann. No brainer. The Seminoles lost 11 games this season. Xavier lost just five, two of which came via fellow number one seed Villanova. We saw the gap between Villanova and Alabama yesterday, and we'll see a similar result here when FSU plays the Musketeers. Lay the number in a convincing victory by the X-Men.
Best of Luck
3 Unit Play. Take #711 MD Baltimore Co +10 over Kansas St (7:45p.m., Sunday March 18 TRUTV)
UMBC shocked the College Basketball world on Friday being the first 16-seed to beat a 1-seed Virginia 74-54. I'm not saying that Kansas St is a lesser team then Virginia but K-State has struggled at times this year and with the success that the Retrievers have had so far the slipper could stay on tonight and I see another Retrievers cover. Kansas St is 2-8 ATS in their last 10 non-conference games and the UMBC Retrievers are 6-1-1 ATS following a ATS win.
3 Unit Play. Take #717 Nevada +9 over Cincinnati (6:10p.m., Sunday March 18 TNT)
This could be the best game of the day and here is another line that I can't believe has moved. Nevada is coming off a big overtime win against Texas and the Wolf Pack had trouble with the size of Texas but tonight I see them having success against the Cincinnati Bearcats. The Bearcats have won 8-Straight games and had no problem against Georgia St winning 68-53 but tonight this game will be tight from the tip. Nevada could easily pull off the upset but no matter what the Wolf Pack will cover this number. Cincinnati is 1-4 ATS when playing on a neutral site and the Wolf Pack are 10-4 ATS against non-conference games.
4 Unit Play. Take #720 Xavier -5.5 over Florida St (8:40p.m., Sunday March 18 TNT)
Florida St had great balance scoring against a short-handed Mizzou team on Friday but tonight they face a Xavier team that score quickly and often. Xavier had no problem with Texas Southern on Friday winning 102-83 and if FSU can't slow the backcourt of Xavier the X-Men will win another NCAA Tournament game by double-digits. Florida St has struggled away from home dropping 4 out 5 games and their struggles continue against the number 1 seed in the West. Florida St is 1-5 ATS in their last 6 NCAA Tournament games and the Xavier Musketeers are 20-7-1 ATS in their last 28 neutral site games
