We usually play 1-2 games max in the opening month of the season, but may break our rule to have a little fun on opening day.
Now, let’s get to it:

Milwaukee Brewers @ San Diego Padres
The Brewers will look to build on their efforts from last season with their upgraded roster and will start the season behind first-time opener Chase Anderson. Milwaukee will have high hopes of snapping their playoff drought after a busy off-season and should come into this one the better all around team – despite the Padres also making some big changes to their roster. Anderson finished the 2017 season with a 12-4 record and an impressive 2.74 ERA to match. His record against the Padres also makes for positive reading given he’s 3-1 against them in his career and is 1-0 against them at Petco Park. Meanwhile, his opposite, Clayton Richard, owns a less than stellar 5.51 career ERA against the Brewers and we envision the left-hander to give up a few too many runs in this one. The Padres are 0-4 against the Brewers in Richards’ last four starts against them and we feel the Brewers are a little over-priced by bookies here. Take the value on Milwaukee in the opener in what should be a pretty open affair.

Cleveland Indians @ Seattle Mariners
This is undoubtedly our favourite play on opening night as Corey Kluber opens at the mound for the travelling Indians. While we don’t look at Spring training for any of our data heading into a season there’s no denying that Kluber was very impressive. The 31-year-old was his usual self in 2017 and put up impressive numbers as he finished 18-4 on the season with a 2.25 ERA to match. It’s no surprise either to see Seattle opt to go with Felix Hernandez on Opening Day and given what he’s capable of there’s no way we can possibly see this one turning into a slugfest. He owns a very impressive 6-2 record on opening day and while he’s 7-6 against Cleveland he does boast an impressive 2.95 ERA against them. Our projections may take a while to find their groove but there’s a big lean on the Unders here and it’s surprising to see nice odds still available.
