For your information folks ... The Distaff Handicap is one of the few graded stakes for fillies and mares at a sprint distance.Inaugurated in 1954 at the old Aqueduct racetrack, the Distaff Handicap was run at Belmont Park from 1956 through 1959. The race has been contested at two different distances: 7 Furlongs ( 1954-1976, 1980-1983, 1985-1992, 1995-2005, 2010-2012) and 6 furlongs (1977, 1978, 1979, 1984, 1994, 2006-2009, 2013). It was run in two divisions in 1964. There was no race run in 1993 due to inclement weather. Here in the 64th running of "The Staff," #4 DIVINE MISS GREY qualifies as a TrackMaster PLUS "PowerPony," and has hit the board in each of her last five outings, including back-to-back-to-back "POWER RUN WINS" in her last three starts. Jockey Ken Carmouche and Trainer Danny Gargan send her to the post for the "Friday Feature" ... they've hit the board with 57% of nearly 80 entries saddled as a team to date. #8 SOUNDS DELICIOUS, the morning line favorite, has nice early speed abilities to compliment for this sprint of today's "specialized distance" of 7.0 furlongs on the dirt, and has hit the board in each of her last five "adventures," including a "POWER RUN WIN" in her last start.

SHINING EVA - When this rider and trainer unite you have to take a look. Duran and Jackson have been terrific together. Aboard this thoroughbred on March 24th and Duran is yet again in the irons this time. Racing over a familiar track, where she has won multiple times before, I have to put this animal at the top of my list of contenders. This mare is in good condition. Ended up first on March 24th. KNOLL - Always be careful of the longer priced horse when a trainer has an 'uncoupled' entry in a race. Dropping down in Equibase class figure points from her Mar 10th race at Golden Gate Fields. Based on that key piece of info, I will give this horse the advantage. ZANAB - I really like that most recent race on March 16th at Golden Gate Fields where she ran first. This mare is number one in earnings per race entered. Take a good look at this thoroughbred in the post parade.

Vulnerable Contenders: #4 BELLA RONSKI (ML=2/1), #1 SEATALPHA (ML=9/2), #2 CROWN POINT (ML=6/1),

BELLA RONSKI - Didn't close ground whatsoever on Mar 22nd. Hard to play this time around at the expected odds. SEATALPHA - Hard to keep following this sort of 'hanger' horse. CROWN POINT - Pace makes the race and the absence of speed means this sustainer will have to rally without any help.

HEAVEN'S CREATION - Ran a nice speed fig of 72 on January 25th. Followed it up with another Equibase speed fig of 76. Either effort is good enough to win this race. The latest speed rating of 76 is the highest last race fig in the group. Taking a drop in class rating points from her Feb 16th race at Fair Grounds. Based on that data, I will give this animal the advantage. Maiden is going to the dirt, and may not have liked the turf last out. Has a good chance to get to the winner's circle for the 1st time.

I give the nod to VINTAGE CORAZON here. She must be considered given the very good speed numbers. Going off blinkers can produce noticeable speed increases. Had one of the top Equibase Speed Figures of this group of horses in this race in her last contest. FLASH OF SNOW - Will most likely compete solidly in the early pace clash which bodes well with this field. Ran a strong last race. EL DOS EQUIS - Martinez will probably be able to get this gelding to break out early for this event. The Equibase speed fig of 62 from his last affair looks quite good in here.
