The real test for this young Sixers team starts now.
They finished the season on an incredible 16-game winning streak and while they’re the form team in the NBA they’ve managed to beat just two playoff teams in that span.
Their last two meetings with Miami, both post-All Star break, saw them succumb to Erik Spoelstra’s team as they were simply outclassed in the closing stages of both.
The microscope will be on this young Philly team in the closing stages as to whether or not they can execute down the stretch, which is something they’ve rarely had to worry about given the blowout wins they’ve been involved in.
In their last five games, Philadelphia have been averaging 94.6 field goal attempts per game. There’s simply no way Miami allow the 76ers that kind of offensive opportunity and they’ll certainly be looking to slow things down and force them into finding ways to score in the half court.
Rotation’s become crucial in the playoffs as well and Spoelstra has far more flexibility in his line ups than Brett Brown – especially while Joel Embiid remains out.
Miami’s second unit are holding opponents to an average of just 34.1 points per game and that could be the deciding factor in whether the road team can sneak a win in Game 1.
Philly’s bench has been electric these past few games but they won’t be afforded the same luxuries that they’ve seen against some young, inexperienced NBA line ups put forth by teams trying to tank.
The Heat are 4-1 against the spread in their last five meetings with Philadelphia and we really like the number on offer at the moment for them.
There’s every reason to believe Miami can cause a first-round upset in this series and that will start by putting in a strong performance in Game 1. Our data has Miami as near even money in this one so we love the free points being offered and feel we could get a better line closer to tip-off as money pours in for the Sixers.
