Here’s our best bets for the action ahead:
Philadelphia Phillies @ Tampa Bay Rays
Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.
We’re not ready to give up on the total in this series after the two served up a lot of nothing in the opener and we’re willing to chase an inflated price on the Overs in this one. Both teams send their ace pitchers to the mound and it seems bookies are favouring reputation over form in this price. Chris Archer gave up four runs in his five and a bit innings pitched against the White Sox last time out and hasn’t shown the same level of consistency we’ve come to expect from him at the mound recently. Meanwhile, Jake Arrieta will hopefully a similar showing against the Rays where he is 3-3 with a 5.35 ERA in his career against them. Tampa Bay left six baserunners stranded in their 2-1 loss last time out and will want to get at Arrieta early after he gave up three runs in his first innings with his new team. These teams have not seen consecutive games stay Under the total in their last 10 straight meetings and we don’t see that changing here. We’re getting far too much value based on reputation and are happy to invest on an overpriced number here.

Milwaukee Brewers @ New York Mets
How can you not bet on these Mets right now? New York will look to make it 10 straight wins as they hope to build on the best record in the majors at home to Chase Anderson. The 30-year-old has pitched well to start the year and is 1-2 with a 3.27 ERA against the Mets in his career. There’s no doubt that the right-hander could pose some problems for this batting line up but Milwaukee’s relief pitching has been suspect to start the year, owning a 3.95 ERA. The Mets bullpen has had no such trouble so far this year as they own a 2.59 ERA so far this season. The key here will be whether Matt Harvey can replicate the efforts from his season opener where he held Philadelphia scoreless in five innings. The Brewers hitters haven’t had enough consistency to warrant too much respect here and they’ve already been blanked three times in their last nine outings. There’s too much value on the home side in this one not to get on board – simple as that really.
