    Preview: Reds at Dodgers
    Gracenote
    May 11, 2018

Riding their first three-game winning streak of the season, the Cincinnati Reds are turning to their newest addition for Friday’s contest against the host Los Angeles Dodgers. Matt Harvey is set to make his Reds debut and will get the start in place of struggling left-hander Brandon Finnegan, who was sent to Triple-A Louisville.

Harvey was pitching out of the New York Mets’ bullpen before being acquired in a trade on Tuesday, and Reds manager Jim Riggleman doesn’t expect the 29-year-old to work more than four or five innings on Friday. Cincinnati opened its seven-game road trip Thursday with a 4-1 victory as Scooter Gennett led the way with three hits, including a go-ahead, two-run double in the sixth inning and a solo homer in the eighth. The Reds snapped their eight-game losing streak against the Dodgers, who have dropped 11 of their last 16. Rookie Walker Buehler tossed six strong innings on Thursday, but the bullpen continued to be a concern with Pedro Baez and Daniel Hudson each allowing a run during an inning of work.

TV: 10:10 p.m. ET, FS Ohio (Cincinnati), SportsNet LA (Los Angeles)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Reds RH Matt Harvey (0-2, 7.00 ERA) vs. Dodgers RH Kenta Maeda (2-2, 4.02)

Harvey recorded a 2.53 ERA from 2012-15 but has posted a 5.93 mark over the last three years and is hoping for a fresh start in Cincinnati. “It’s been kind of a roller coaster, battling from injuries and trying to get back to where I wanted to be and knew I can be,” he told reporters. “I want to work on fully getting back to where I really want to be.” Matt Kemp is 4-for-16 with three homers against Harvey, who is 1-2 with a 4.50 ERA in four career starts versus the Dodgers.

Maeda did not factor into the decision Saturday against San Diego after allowing three runs and four hits in five innings. The 30-year-old has recorded at least seven strikeouts in four of his six turns this season but only has completed six frames twice. Maeda is 1-0 with a 2.00 ERA in two career games (one start) against Cincinnati and owns a 16-7 record and 2.98 ERA in 32 career contests (29 starts) at Dodger Stadium.

    WALK-OFFS

    1. Reds RHP Rasiel Iglesias has not allowed a run in his last six appearances covering 6 2/3 innings.

    2. Los Angeles INFs Justin Turner (wrist) and Logan Forsythe (shoulder) both are expected to begin minor-league rehab assignments this weekend.

    3. The Reds are 8-12 since Riggleman was named interim manager on April 19.

    PREDICTION: Dodgers 7, Reds 3

        Preview: Cardinals at Padres
        Gracenote
        May 11, 2018

Tommy Pham returned to the lineup after a two-game injury absence and resumed his strong start to the season. Pham homered and scored both runs in the St. Louis Cardinals' series-opening win over the host San Diego Padres, and the team seeks another victory when the four-game set continues on Friday.

Pham went 2-for-4 with his sixth blast of the season in Thursday's 2-1 victory to raise his batting average to .330, which is fourth-best in the National League. St. Louis is hoping its leadoff hitter will ignite a suddenly sluggish offense that has registered just four runs over the last three games. San Diego also is struggling with the bats and has produced just three runs over its last three contests after accumulating just five hits in the opener. Eric Hosmer was hitless in four at-bats on Thursday to fall to 2-for-24 during a seven-game stretch, with both hits being homers.

TV: 10:10 p.m. ET, FS Midwest (St. Louis), FS San Diego

PITCHING MATCHUP: Cardinals RH Luke Weaver (2-2, 5.60 ERA) vs. Padres LH Eric Lauer (1-1, 5.79)

Weaver is winless over his last four starts and has posted a porous 9.00 ERA during the stretch. The 24-year-old lasted just four innings in his last turn as he gave up four runs and six hits against the Chicago Cubs. Weaver won his lone career start against the Padres when he allowed three hits over seven scoreless innings and matched his career best of 10 strikeouts on August 23.

Lauer is making his fourth career start and is pitching at Petco Park for the first time. The 22-year-old picked up his first career victory in his last turn, when he blanked the Los Angeles Dodgers on seven hits over six innings at Monterrey, Mexico. Lauer has given up 20 hits and walked seven in just 14 innings for a 1.93 WHIP and is allowing opponents to bat .323 against him.

        WALK-OFFS

        1. The Cardinals placed staff ace Carlos Martinez (lat strain) on the 10-day disabled list and recalled fellow RHP Mike Mayers from Triple-A Memphis.

        2. San Diego 3B Christian Villanueva is 0-for-26 over his last eight contests.

        3. St. Louis INF Matt Carpenter fanned in three of his four hitless at-bats in the opener and is 1-for-21 with nine strikeouts over his last seven games.

        PREDICTION: Cardinals 3, Padres 2

            Play on: OVER 7½ -110

            Free pick on Astros/Rangers OVER
I'm recommending a play on the OVER in Friday's AL West action that has the Astros hosting the Rangers. The fact that Houston has Justin Verlander on the mound will have most expecting a lower-scoring game. Especially with Texas' starter Cole Hamels coming in looking good over his last 3 starts.
Even if both starters throw well, I still think it's going to be tough keeping these two offenses in check. Both sides are capable of eclipsing this total on their own and both come in good form. Houston has scored 24 runs on 42 hits in their last 3 games and Texas has scored 16 on 25 hits in their last 3.
OVER is 7-2-1 in the Rangers last 10 vs a team with a winning record, 6-1 in their last 7 vs a right-handed starter, 5-01-1 in their last 6 road games vs a team with a winning home record and a perfect 5-0 in their last 5 during game 1 of a series. Take the OVER!

                MLB | Royals vs Indians
Play on: Indians -1½ -123 at pinnacle

Jack’s Free Pick Friday: Cleveland Indians -1.5 (-123)
The Cleveland Indians come into this series with the Royals highly motivated. They have lost four of their last five overall. They should have no problem winning Game 1 by two runs or more Friday.
Trevor Bauer has been lights out for the Indians this season. He is 2-3 with a 2.52 ERA and 1.057 WHIP in seven starts, including 2-1 with a 1.91 ERA and 0.988 WHIP in four road starts. Bauer is also 2-4 with a 3.08 ERA in 11 career starts against Kansas City.
Jason Hammel is still in search of his first win this season. He is 0-4 with a 4.78 ERA in seven starts, 0-2 with a 5.47 ERA in four road starts, and 0-3 with a 7.00 ERA in his last three outings. Hammel is also 3-5 with a 4.87 ERA in 11 career starts against Cleveland.
Hammel is 0-9 against the money line vs. good power teams who average 1.25 or more home runs per game over the last two seasons. The Royals are losing in this spot by 3.5 runs per game on average. Hammel is 1-19 as a dog of +175 to +250 in his career. His teams are losing by 3.4 runs per game on average in this situation. Bet the Indians on the Run Line Friday.
