the miami marlins' 10-game road trip got off to a good start but took a downward turn in a hurry. miami looks to begin reversing its fortunes friday as it begins a three-game series against the arizona diamondbacks.
the marlins kicked off their trek with a 7-2 triumph in san diego before being outscored 20-10 while losing the final three contests of the series. derek dietrich went 3-for-4 with a solo homer in thursday's 8-3 setback, giving him at least one hit in nine of his last 10 games. arizona had a day off to lick its wounds after failing to complete a three-game sweep against cincinnati with wednesday's 7-4 defeat. john ryan murphy homered for the fourth time in six contests and paul goldschmidt belted a two-run shot, giving him six rbis in as many games, while jarrod dyson collected three hits to enter friday 4-for-8 over his last two outings.
