#3 STONEY BENNETT
#7 COLLECTIVE EFFORT
#5 FORWARD MOTION
Restricted to the 3-year-old progeny of New York stallions, the Cab Calloway was first run in 2003 at six furlongs on the dirt. In 2004 and 2005, it was contested at 1 1/8 miles on the dirt. Moved to the turf in 2006, it was run at 1 1/8 miles on 2006-07, at 1 1/16 miles in 2008-10 and thereafter at a mile on the grass. In 2011, when its sister race, the NYSS Statue of Liberty, did not fill, the race was run as the New York Stallion Series Stakes. The race was named for the popular jazz singer and band leader Cabell "Cab" Calloway III, a native of Rochester, N.Y. who died in 1994. Here in the 12th running of "The Calloway," #2 THERAPIST is the overall speed leader in this stakes field racing at the mile distance on the grass, and has produced "POWER RUNS" in each of his last five starts, hitting the board in four of those outings, winning three times in this recent streak of racing consistency. Jockey Irad Ortiz and Trainer Chris Clement send him to the post for the "Monday Feature." They've hit the board with 58% of their last 75 entries saddled as a team to date. #3 STONEY BENNETT qualifies as a TrackMaster PLUS "PowerPony," and comes off a "POWER RUN WIN" in his last start.
