    Race 10 - Trial - 350y on the Dirt. Purse: $2000 Class Rating: 79

QUARTER HORSE 350Y, FOR TWO YEAR OLDS WHICH HAVE NOMINATED AND REMAIN ELIGIBLE. WEIGHT.122 LBS.

    RECOMMENDED CHOICES
    The Walker Group Picks

    # 2 HIGH AND CALIENTE 4/1

    # 7 CAJUN COS 5/2

    # 1 JMF TEMPTING RYON 5/1

My pick in this race is HIGH AND CALIENTE. Exhibits the look of a lucrative play, averaging a solid 70 Equibase Speed Figure which is one of the strongest in this field. With a quite good 70 speed rating last time out, will unquestionably be a factor in this contest. The average class figure alone makes this entrant a definite contender. CAJUN COS - Looks very good for the conditions of this contest today, showing solid figs in short races as of late. Could beat this group of animals given the 76 speed rating posted in her last outing. JMF TEMPTING RYON - Has performed admirably recently in short races, posting a nifty 65 avg Equibase Speed Fig. Has been running very well lately and will probably be close to the lead early on.

          #1 PLAYING HOOKY (ML=1/1)

PLAYING HOOKY - This colt is in excellent condition right now. Finished second in the last race and comes back rapidly. Recent speeds of 98-84-85 tell me this thoroughbred is in good condition for today.

          Vulnerable Contenders: #2 GRAHAM'S WAY (ML=5/2), #4 KILRONAN (ML=4/1), #9 AQWAAM (ML=4/1),

GRAHAM'S WAY - Not a race since Apr 14th, probably too long ago to be effective this time around. Don't believe this vulnerable equine will make a winning move in today's race. That last speed figure was mediocre when compared with today's class rating. KILRONAN - 4/1 is just too low of a price to take on this thoroughbred. AQWAAM - A bit of a less than stellar performance when this colt finished sixth. Notched a quite unimpressive speed rating in the last race in a Maiden Special race on Jul 6th. Unlikely to see an improved performance off of that number.

Top HatGUEST COMMENTARY: The Brain - PLAYING HOOKY - I've checked and double checked my massive database. This horse is the only strong stalker in this field. Should make a big move turning for home on his way to the winner's circle.

              # 8 SANTITA S S 9/2

              # 2 JO JO WHO 5/2

              # 5 TONNI GWEN 5/1

I think SANTITA S S is a competitive choice. Draper is serious with this one, wheeling her back almost immediately. The average class fig of 38 makes this horse difficult to beat. JO JO WHO - With Rodriguez uptop her, this filly ought to be able to break out sharply for this event. Has been racing in the most competitive company of the field as of late.

From 1987 to 1994, the New York-bred gelding Fourstardave won at least one race at Saratoga yearly, including the 1988 Albany Handicap, the 1989 and 1991 West Point Handicaps, and consecutive runnings of the Daryl's Joy in 1990 and 1991. Trained by Leo O'Brien and owned by Richard Bomze and Bernard Connaughton, Fourstardave's success at Saratoga earned him the nickname "The Sultan of Saratoga" and the Daryl's Joy Stakes was renamed in his honor in 1996. Here in the 34th running of "The Dave," #5 HEART TO HEART, an 11 time winner in this field today racing at the mile distance on the turf, and has hit the board in "POWER RUN FASHION" in each of his last three "adventures," including back-to-back "POWER RUN WINS" in his 2nd and 3rd races back. The 4-1 shot, #2 DELTA PRINCE" has hit the board in each of his last five outings, winning three times, with two of those "Circle Trips" also qualifying as "POWER RUNS."

                  #7 KING STORMY (ML=9/2)
                  #1 LAS ANA (ML=6/1)

KING STORMY - Jock hops back aloft after getting to know the fine animal by riding last out. That's always a helpful angle. This gelding likes to be near the lead. Today's race is a shorter distance and should enhance his likelihood of winning. This gelding is in exceptional form right now. Ran second last out and comes back quickly. Gelding took a little vacation, but has been racing into shape. LAS ANA - This race horse should be thundering in the lane.

                  Vulnerable Contenders: #5 RING OF IRON (ML=3/1), #6 DOUG'S BIRTHDAY (ML=7/2), #3 QUICK COWBOY (ML=6/1),

RING OF IRON - Don't believe this mount will do much running in today's race. That last speed rating was mediocre when compared with today's Equibase class figure. DOUG'S BIRTHDAY - Showed very little in the last race. Really don't see any hint of a reversal of fortune today. I find it hard to wager on any entrant in a short distance race at 7/2 when he hasn't shown any positive results in sprints in the last 60 days. QUICK COWBOY - Hard to take this entrant at this price after the result (seventh) in the last event. Recorded a common fig in the last race in a Maiden Special race on July 23rd. Not likely to see an improved performance off of that number.
