I think I figured out why Homer Bailey remains in the Reds starting rotation despite being one of the worst pitchers in the major leagues. It's because he has a $105 million dollar contract. I'm not going to lay this big of a road price with the Indians and Mike Clevinger, but I do see a way to fade Bailey and that's go Over the total. The Indians, after all, may reach this total just by themselves. Cleveland ranks No. 3 in the majors in runs and homers. The Indians lose their DH, but Great American Ball Park is one of the best hitting stadiums in the league. There isn't much wind, but the weather forecast calls for a clear night with high humidity. That's conducive for hitters. Bailey is 0-5 with a 6.44 ERA at home this season. His ERA was 6.43 last year. It was 6.65 two seasons ago and 5.56 in 2015. You would think the Reds just would eat Bailey's contract. Homer Simpson could pitch better than Homer Bailey. Clevinger has a 4.12 ERA in night games. He has a 7.15 ERA in two career starts against the Reds the last of which came on July 9 in a 7-5 Cincinnati victory. The Reds have scored at least four runs in 11 of their last 16 games.

I'll gladly take my chances here with the Indians on the -1.5 run line in Monday's series opener against the Reds. Cleveland has a commanding 12-game lead in the AL Central and have shown no signs of slowing down. With Sunday's 9-7 win over the Rangers, the Indians have now won 9 of their last 12. While Cincinnati just took 2 of 3 at home against the Diamondbacks, they are just 4-8 in their last 12. All signs point to a lopsided win for Cleveland with Mike Clevinger squaring off against Homer Bailey. Clevinger has a solid 3.37 ERA in 23 starts and a 2.69 ERA in 11 outings on the road. Bailey is 1-9 with a 6.19 ERA in 15 starts overall and 0-5 with a 6.44 ERA in 8 starts at home. In his most recent outing, he gave up 5 runs on 11 hits in 3 1/3 innings and proceeded to blame the scouting report for his poor performance. Making excuses is not the sign of a confident pitcher and I expect another poor outing in this one. Give me the Indians -1.5 (-109)

The Kansas City Royals have more or less given up on the season already and they enter Monday as losers of nine of their last 10. This looks like as good of a spot as any for Toronto to give 22 year old right-hander Sean Reid-Foley his big leagues debut.
Reid-Foley has been rather dominant in the minors, going a combined 12-4 with a 2.98 ERA in 23 starts for Double-A New Hampshire and Buffalo and I think he'll make the most of his chance to play with the big boys.
The Blue Jays scored a total of 31 runs in a 3-0 sweep against the Royals back in April and KC righty Brad Keller (4-5, 3.57 ERA) was tagged with one run on four hits in 0 2/3 innings out of the bullpen.
Keller is 3-4 with a 4.09 ERA in 12 turns since becoming a starter in late May, but Royals are just 4-8 on those games and he has given up six runs on 12 hits with six walks in 12 1/3 innings in his last two starts, both Royals losses.
KC is a pathetic 16-42 at home, Blue Jays are 19-7 in their last 26 games vs. a team with a winning % below .400.

My free play for Monday will be the Jays and Royals to continue to struggle at the dish, as this series opener lands Under the total.

Sean Reid-Foley is set to make his Major League debut after tearing it up in the minor leagues, and with Kansas City having been held to 3 runs or less in 3 straight and 5 of their last 6 games, I will look for the youngster to enjoy success in his first call to the rubber.

Toronto is fresh off just 3 runs total in 3 games against Tampa Bay, all 3 of the games Under the total, and they will get a look at Brad Keller who has gone a respectable 2-1 with a 3.50 ERA in his home starts this season.

This will be the first meeting between the teams in Kansas City this season, and all 3 of the meetings last year at Kauffman did indeed hold Under the total.

Offenses stay cold at the plate tonight.

My free play for Monday is on the Atlanta Braves run line, in the first of two games against the Miami Marlins. In this game I am looking to Touki Toussaint, who is being promoted to make his Major League debut.
