Vernon Croy 7 Unit WNBA Play

7-Unit Play. Take #609-610 Dallas/Seattle GAME TOTAL OVER 174 (Sunday, August 19th at 1:30 PM ET)
Take Dallas/Seattle GAME TOTAL OVER as my 7-Unit WNBA Smash for Sunday night. This pick falls into one of my top WNBA systems and I have this game flying over the posted total tonight given the way these two teams have been playing lately. Dallas just put up 107 points against Las Vegas while allowing 102 points against and they allowed 96 points to the Sun in their previous game before that. Dallas has allowed at least 92 ppg in 5 of their last 5 games overall and over 100 points twice in that span. The Storm have averaged 87.3 ppg this season which is the most ppg in the Western Conference and second most ppg in the WNBA. The O/U is 5-1 for the Wings in their last 6 games after a win and the O/U is 4-1 in the last 5 games played between these two teams. Play the OVER as we move to 7-1 the last 11 days in the WNBA.

      3-Unit Play. Take #908 Atlanta (-130) over Colorado (1:35 p.m. Sunday, August 19)

The Braves swept the Marlins in their previous series but there seems to be a hangover from the drama that happened with Jose Urena plunking Ronald Acuna Jr. with the first pitch of the game in the final game of that series. Atlanta has lost the first three matchups of this series after blowing a 2 run lead last night but I think they will win today to avoid the sweep. Anibal Sanchez will be on the mound for the Braves and he is 4-0 with a 1.99 ERA in six career starts against the Rockies as he has had their number. German Marquez will take the ball for Colorado and even though he has pitched well since the start of July, the Rockies have lost two of the last three games he started. I like Atlanta to get the win before they head out on the road.

6 Unit Play Take #910 St. Louis -115 over Milwaukee (2:15pm est):

The St. Louis Cardinals continue their red hot ways having won 10 of their last 11 games to jump back into the National League playoff picture. The Cardinals been the best team in the NL during the 2nd half of the season with a 20-10 record overall since returning from the All-Star break. What makes this even more impressive is St. Louis has done in it in both phases (pitching and hitting) of the game during this time ranking #1 in team offensive wRC+ and ERA. They face a Milwaukee Brewers squad here that's been falling apart of late having dropped 6 of their last 8 games and who are an ugly 13-20 overall since July 11th. The Brewers were a nice story early on this season but they've been exposed this season when facing good team posting a 36-42 record versus teams with a .500 record or better.

The Cardinals hand the baseball to John Gant in this one. Gant has been very good of late having allowed 2 earned runs or less in 6 of his last 7 starts. He's coming off two of his best starts this year in his last two outings with a 1.59 ERA and an even more impressive 0.62 WHIP. Two big things have happened for the 26 year-old right-hander lately, in those last two starts he was throwing as hard as he's been throwing all season velocity wise and he recently added a new pitch (slider) to his arsenal as well. Gant faces a Brewers offense in this one that's not been as good against right-handers this year compared to when they have faced a lefty. Take St. Louis.

          Indian Cowboy

          4-Unit Play. Take #608. Chicago -8 vs Indiana (Sunday@ 6:10p.m. est).

The Indiana Fever are probably very thankful that the regular season is coming to an end for them. They are 5-28 overall and will likely be 5-29 after tonight's game. Look, this is an Indiana team that is on a five game losing streak and had their best shot to win a game just yesterday against this very same Chicago team. Instead, the Fever blew a late lead and ended up losing in double-OT in one of the more exciting games of the season. The Fever now have to travel for their final game of the season and we expect them to just mail it in and get through the game with the number 2 pick in next year's draft secured. The Sky on the other hand should be pumped up to wrap up their season in front of their home crowd. They've won three of their last four games including against two good teams in Minnesota and Connecticut. While they may not be going to the post season, the Sky can use tonight's performance as a building block for next year. The Fever are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 after an ATS loss while the Sky are 4-0 ATS in their last 5 games overall. The Sky are the better team here with more motivation in this one.

          4-Unit Play. Take #606. Phoenix -12 vs New York (Sunday@ 6:05p.m. est).

The Phoenix Mercury are rolling right now, winners of three straight including games against LA and Atlanta. The Mercury will be making the post season and will want to keep the momentum going in tonight's game against a non-playoff bound New York Liberty team. Phoenix ranks among the best teams in the league in terms of the major offensive categories, while NY is among the worst. The Liberty have lost 12 straight games and have essentially nothing to play for. Having played two nights ago against the Storm in Seattle, this game will be their final game of a four game road trip that has been nothing but disastrous. Don't overthink this one. Phoenix is the much better team and will want to prove to their home crowd that they have what it takes to make a deep run in this year's playoffs and possibly bring a title home to the desert. The Liberty are 4-11 ATS in their last 15 vs the Western conference while the Mercury are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games.

Robert Ferringo's Picks For Major League Baseball

            4-Unit Play. Take #911 Arizona (-1.5, -125) over San Diego (4 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 19)
Brett Kennedy has made two starts in his Major League career. He's given up 20 hits, four home runs, and 11 runs in nine innings of work. Not great! Kennedy is a loser and should be in Double-A, not starting against a playoff-caliber team. Arizona lost yesterday. But I don't see them losing this series. The Diamondbacks are answering Kennedy with a former Cy Young winner, Zach Greinke. This moneyline should be around -280 and the runline should be around -150 or -160. I will play the value and look for the Diamondbacks to get it done.

            Today's Totals
1-Unit Play. Take 'Under' 8.5 San Francisco at Cincinnati (1 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 19)
2-Unit Play. Take 'Over' 8.0 Chicago Cubs at Pittsburgh (1:30 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 19)
2-Unit Play. Take 'Over' 8.0 Colorado at Atlanta (1:30 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 19)
            Carpe diem. Good luck.

Allen Eastman's Picks For Major League Baseball

              4-Unit Play. Take #911 Arizona (-1.5, -125) over San Diego (4 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 19)

I will go with the Diamondbacks in this one. I see them taking two of three in this series. They have beaten the Padres five of the last six times. Arizona is going with Zach Greinke and he is due for a win after three straight losses. Greinke has allowed two or fewer runs in nine of his last 10 starts. He has had extra rest before this start and should be sharp. Arizona is 30-10 when Greinke starts against teams with a losing record and they are 15-7 when he pitches with extra rest. Arizona is 6-1 in Greinke's last seven road starts. San Diego is just 5-21 in its last 26 home games and 15-39 in their last 54 games overall. Go with Arizona in this one.

                      7-Unit Play. Take #903. Cincinnati -110 vs San Fransisco (Sunday@ 1:10p.m. est).

In order to win baseball games, you need to score runs. The San Fransisco Giants are not doing that right now and as a result they are currently on a three game losing streak, scoring 1, 1, and 3 runs in those games respectively. Last night they went 0-for-8 with RISP, and their big bats have gone completely silent. The Giants have hist just two home runs in their last 93 innings and just 7 the entire month of August so far. Now they have to contend with Luis Castillo who will be looking for a bounce-back performance after allowing five runs in 5.2 innings against Arizona last time out. Prior to that, however, Castillo was sharp, giving up just three runs in 17.2 innings. Meanwhile, the Giants will be hoping that inconsistent pitcher, Andrew Suarez will figure things out. Suarez has a 6.06 ERA in his last six starts and a 6.19 ERA in three August starts. The Reds are putting out a solid lineup today and we expect them to get the job done and sweep the lowly Giants. The Giants are just 1-4 in their last 5 after scoring two or fewer runs while the Reds are 5-1 in their last 6 vs the NL West and 4-1 in Castillo's lsat 5 home starts.

                        2 stars Pit 1st 5 innings.

Huge edge for Pit with these 2 starters, one great investment here vs. a Cubs team
                        that is overrated
