Nice winner on the Braves, let's keep it rolling today. The Diamondbacks are sitting pretty right now atop the NL West, but they know they still have work to do if they want to remain their through September. After last night's walk-off win, the DBacks turn to Clay Buchholz to continue the winning ways tonight to sweep the mini two-game set against the Angels. Buchholz has been on a tear since he was called up from the Minors. In his latest start, he tossed a complete game, while giving up just five hits and striking out 6 Padres. He's also given up just 5 total runs in his last 22 innings. His team is rolling too right now, winners of five of their last 6 including scoring 35 runs in those games. The Angels are a mess right now and will turn to a pitcher in Odrisamer Despaigne, who has an 0-1 record with an 11.25 ERA. In his career at Chase field, he is 0-3 with a lifetime ERA of over 8. Don't over think this one. The Dbacks are the better team with the better pitcher. The Angels are just 1-5 in their last 6 games vs a right handed starter, while the DBacks are 4-0 in their last 4 vs a righty.

This is where the rubber meets the road. Houston won last night but are 1-5 against Seattle the last 6 games, BUT we get Charlie Morton on the hill who is solid. The KEY in this game is Houston is having issues at the plate in terms of hitting BUT they are hitting left handers at .400 as a team and they face southpaw Marco Gonzalez with a 7,94 ERA and a 1.79 WHIP his last 3 starts. Seattle will get to Morton a little but his 12-3 record, 2.78 ERA season long and a 2.00 ERA his last 3 starts where he managed no wins, a loss, and 2 no decisions BECAUSE of lack of run support should in fact play into Houston's hands as they should get to Gonzales today and get a win here. Seattle is 3-8 last 11 home games.

Not so fast. The most revealing stat in this game is the fact that BOTH teams in their last 5 games have hit left handed pitchers at .100 as a team! WOW. Cubs bullpen last 5 games, 0.51 ERA!! WOW again. Cubs 8-0 on Unders their last 8 games. Cubs 19-7 on Unders their last 26 games overall.

7-Unit Play: Take 969 Astros -135 over Mariners (4:10 p.m., Wed., August 22)

I'm backing the Astros on Wednesday afternoon with Morton over Gonzales. Houston is clinging to first place in the AL West after losing eight of its last 11 games, but the Mariners have major problems with their starting pitching due to another injury to James Paxton and Mike Leake's illness which kept him out of Tuesday's game. Marco Gonzalez has lost his last three starts while allowing 15 runs on 27 hits in only 17 innings for a 7.94 ERA in August. Gonzalez faced the Astros once this year and gave up three runs on five hits in 4 2/3 innings. The Astros still are 43-20 on the road, which is much better than their home record and they have won 11 of the last 14 meetings at Seattle. Charlie Morton is 12-3 with a 2.85 ERA without much run support lately and he hasn't allowed more than three runs in any of his last six starts. Morton has a 2.66 ERA on the road and he's 2-1 with a 2.37 ERA in three starts against the Mariners this season. I'm backing the Astros on Wednesday. Thanks & GL! Scott Spreitzer.
