NFL PRESEASON SELECTIONS
I really like the Browns, Colts and Bucs, but I cut them from my card. It is a long season. Let's keep it a little tighter this week and save our arrows for when the "real" games start next week!
In case you are wondering, I don't think the Eagles care about the preseason at all (whereas the Browns clearly do) and they are likely to again sit their two starting quarterbacks. I think the Bucs are just further along than the Lions, who are breaking in new systems on both sides of the ball. Detroit has actually looked really bad so far this preseason and I think the Bucs are really focused. I also think the Colts are just kind of due after a fluke loss (like the Browns) last week.

1-Unit Play. Take #254 N.Y. Jets (-2.5) over N.Y. Giants (7:30 p.m., Friday, Aug. 24)
I think the Jets are just a bit further along than the Giants. New York is learning different systems on both sides of the ball. They are massively overhauling their offense and defense. Whereas the Jets are stable in what they are trying to do. I don't think the Giants will use Eli Manning and Odell Beckham all that much. Same goes for Saquon Barkley. And there is a steep drop-off from the Giants starters to their backups. The Jets are still having a quarterback competition. And I would take any of their guys over Davis Webb and Kyle Lauletta. The Jets lost this one last year after a failed two-point conversion in the final minutes after a wild second half comeback. They outscored the Giants 28-3 in the second half last year. 28-3! Only to lose 32-31. That's how bad they wanted to come back and win that game though. The Giants had three defensive touchdowns in that one. I don't see it happening again and I think the Jets will get a touch of ?revenge?.

The NFLX Comp play is on Minnesota at 8;00 eastern. The Vikings lost at home here last year to Jacksonville and should rebound with a win here tonight as the starters will go well into the 3rd Quarter.The Vikings are 8-1 to the spread off a straight up and ats loss and have covered 5 of 6 in preseason games vs losing teams. Seattle has lost the first two games and has failed to cover 7 of 9 in this series in preseason games. Look for The Vikings to cover. Friday August 24th 2018- 3 Unit Play Take #259 Detroit +3 over Tampa Bay (8:00pm est):

The Detroit Lions have a new head coach in Matt Patricia and with any new NFL coach there comes a lot of excitement going into the year. That excitement has turned into frustration for the Lions just two weeks into the preseason as they haven't looked good in either of their first two exhibition games. One big reason for that is because their starting quarterback Matthew Stafford has only thrown 5 total passes so far in the preseason. There's likely no other team in the NFL that relies more on one player than the Lions do with Stafford. This is a team that's below average in most other key phases of the game including ranking dead last offensively in rushing the football. Without him on the field this is simply not a good football team and we've seen evidence of that again here in the preseason. The good news is that Stafford is expected to play into the 2nd half here in this one.They Tampa Bay Buccaneers will begin the regular season this year without starting quarterback Jameis Winston as he'll be out serving a three game suspension. So with that in mind the Bucs likely don't have the same type of urgency to get Winston ready for the start of a new year here in the crucial game number three of the NFL preseason. Instead the main goal is likely getting expected opening day starting quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick ready for action as he's coming off an ugly game last week where he was just 5 of 13 overall and had some accuracy issues in the contest. Tampa Bay is off to a 2-0 start in the preseason this year so their desire to win in this one is probably a lot lower than a Lions team here that's desperate for a feel good type game to get their fans and media off their backs. Take Detroit plus the points in this one.
