The Angels took yesterday's series opener but the Rangers should return the favor this evening. Both starters were sharp last time out. However, while Minor has been "consistently sharp" of late, Heaney's previous couple of starts had been terrible. He's still got a poor 5.71 ERA and 1.558 WHIP his last three. Minor, by comparison, has a 3.06 ERA and excellent 0.792 WHIP his last three. He's now 4-1 with a 2.78 ERA his last six starts. For the season, Minor is 5-3 with a 3.30 ERA and 1.013 WHIP in 13 home starts. Heaney, on the other hand, is 1-5 with a 5.06 ERA in 13 road starts. Also, while the Angels haven't seen Minor since 2014, the Rangers pounded Heaney (again) less than three weeks ago. Heaney would give up six runs on 10 hits in that one. In his last three starts against Texas, he's allowed 15 combined runs in 13 2/3 innings. In addition to walking six batters, he gave up 24 hits, six of them leaving the park. That gives him an ugly 7.88 ERA and 1.959 WHIP in five career starts vs. Texas. Prior to yesterday's game, the Rangers had scored 25 runs in their previous three games compared to LA managing just eight. All things considered, this line could easily be higher. Los Angeles (67-71) won the opening game of this series last night with their 3-1 victory. The Angels have seen the Under go 28-12-3 in their last 43 games after a victory. Los Angeles has also played 5 of their last 6 games Under the Total on the road. Texas (60-78) has not committed an error in three straight games — and they have played 47 of their last 78 games Under the Total after not committing an error in at least two straight games. We cashed in on the Astros on the -1.5 run line with our free pick on Monday and I see no reason not to go back to the well and take Houston to win by at least 2 runs on Tuesday. The Astros are making a late season push and have won 3 straight and 10 of their last 13 overall. Minnesota has nothing to play for and it shows, as they have gone just 2-8 in their last 10. Hard to see the Twins keeping this one close, as they will send out reliever Trevor May, who hasn't started in the big leagues since 2015. Houston should exploit Minnesota's attempt to go at this game with releivers and put up a big number here for ace Justin Verlander. Give me the Astros -1.5, -140!Comment

This is looking more and more like the likely one-game play-in wildcard game in the AL. Each team is looking to play at home so both teams are still playing tough. Happ is 5-0 in six starts since coming over from the Jays. He's tough and eats up innings to boot which is great when you have a pen like the bombers. This is basically a bullpen game for the A's and it will be pitch by committee making Happ and the Bronx the play.Comment

My money is on the White Sox to cash in an easy win at home against the Tigers. Chicago might own one of the worst records in the big leagues, but they aren't playing like a bottom feeder right now. The White Sox defeated the Tigers 4-2 on Monday and are now 8-2 in their last 10 overall. I look for Chicago to stay hot against Detroit on Tuesday, as they have a big edge on the mound with the red-hot Lucas Giolito going up against the slumping Francisco Liriano. Giolito has a 2.33 ERA and 0.776 WHIP in his last 3 starts. The most recent coming against the Red Sox, where he held Boston to just 1 run on 2 hits in 6 1/3 innings. Liriano has awful 9.53 ERA and 2.295 WHIP in his last 3 starts. A horrible stretch in which he's allowed 17 runs on 19 hits and 7 walks in just 11 1/3 innings. Bet the White Sox -152!Comment
