Nationals vs. Phillies Preview and Predictions

    by Gracenote on 09/12/2018

The free-falling Philadelphia Phillies have seen their postseason aspirations fade in rapid time, as they have lost eight consecutive series to barely remain within earshot for either the National League East title or a wild-card berth. The Phillies (74-70), who will look to snap a four-game skid in the finale of their series on Wednesday at home, squandered a three-run lead in the ninth inning of the nightcap in Tuesday's doubleheader sweep by the Nationals (73-72).

Juan Soto flustered Philadelphia in the finale, capping a two-homer performance with a solo shot in the 10th inning of a 7-6 victory in the nightcap. The 19-year-old rookie is 9-for-22 with six RBIs during his five-game hitting streak heading into a tilt versus Cy Young candidate Aaron Nola, against whom he is 1-for-9 with three strikeouts this season. Washington has won four in a row to inch closer to Philadelphia, which has dropped eight of 10 overall to reside 6 1/2 games behind first-place Atlanta in the NL East. Rhys Hoskins had a two-run double to highlight a five-run fifth inning to improve to 8-for-19 with three homers, five RBIs and five runs scored in his last five outings, although he is just 1-for-7 with five strikeouts versus Wednesday starter Stephen Strasburg.

TV: 7:05 p.m. ET, MASN (Washington), NBCS Philadelphia

PITCHING MATCHUP: Nationals RH Stephen Strasburg (7-7, 4.04 ERA) vs. Phillies RH Aaron Nola (16-4, 2.29)

Strasburg, who traditionally has dominated Philadelphia in his career, rebounded from a disastrous outing against the Phillies on Aug. 22 by picking up the win five days later after allowing two runs in six innings. The 30-year-old has kept the ball in the park in each of his last three trips to the mound after being taken deep twice in the first of the two recent encounters with Philadelphia. Strasburg has recorded back-to-back no-decisions in his last two starts despite yielding two earned runs in both outings.

Nola rebounded from his first loss since July 14 with an eight-strikeout performance over seven innings in a 4-3 win at the New York Mets on Friday. The 25-year-old has flustered Washington this season, highlighting his 3-0 mark with a 1.26 ERA in four starts after scattering five hits and fanning nine in eight frames of a 2-0 victory on Aug. 23. Bryce Harper and Anthony Rendon are both 9-for-30 against Nola, although the hurler has kept Adam Eaton (1-for-14, nine strikeouts) at bay.

    WALK-OFFS

    1. Philadelphia CF Odubel Herrera is 4-for-31 with 10 strikeouts in his last 10 games.

    2. Washington C Matt Wieters is 3-for-7 with two RBIs and two runs scored in his last two contests after going 1-for-15 with eight strikeouts in his previous six outings.

    3. Phillies 2B Cesar Hernandez is 8-for-17 with four RBIs during his four-game hitting streak.

    PREDICTION: Nationals 2, Phillies 1

Marlins vs. Mets Preview and Predictions

      by Gracenote on 09/11/2018

The Miami Marlins aim to gain the edge in both the season and current series against the host New York Mets on Wednesday when the National League East rivals play a single-admission doubleheader at Citi Field. The Marlins (57-86) improved to 6-7 against the Mets (65-78) this season by getting the better of Jacob deGrom during Tuesday's 5-3 triumph in the opener of a four-game set.

Derek Dietrich collected two hits and a run scored in the series opener to improve to 13-for-43 with six extra-base hits (five doubles, homer) versus New York this season while crossing the plate 10 times. The 29-year-old is just 3-for-15 with nine strikeouts in his career against Wednesday's opening starter Zack Wheeler while he'll face left-hander Jason Vargas for the first time in the nightcap. While cellar-dwelling Miami has split eight of its contests in September, the Mets fell for just the third time in nine outings overall this month - although the team is batting just .215 while posting a 30-42 mark at home this season. Michael Conforto homered in a career-best third straight game and fifth time in eight contests, giving him 11 RBIs, 10 hits and six runs scored in that stretch heading into matchups against right-handers Trevor Richards and Jeff Brigham.

TV: 7:40 p.m. ET, FS Florida (Miami), SNY (New York)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Marlins RH Jeff Brigham (0-1, 9.00 ERA) vs. Mets LH Jason Vargas (5-9, 6.75)

Brigham is patiently biding his time to make his second career start after Mother Nature forced rainouts on back-to-back starts. The 26-year-old allowed three runs, four hits and four walks while striking out two in three innings of a 6-1 loss to Toronto on Sept. 2. Brigham posted a 10-3 mark with a 2.36 ERA in 17 starts over three minor-league levels this season, including 5-2 with a 3.44 in nine turns with Triple-A New Orleans.

Vargas answered a three-start winning streak by getting shredded for five runs on six hits over 3 1/3 innings of an 11-4 setback at the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sept. 4. The 35-year-old allowed two homers in that contest after being taken deep twice in his previous six trips to the mound. Vargas fared significantly better in his previous outing against Miami, scattering two hits and striking out seven across five innings in a 2-0 win on May 21.

      WALK-OFFS

      1. New York 3B Todd Frazier, who was ejected in the seventh inning for arguing balls and strikes in the series opener, is mired in a 1-for-15 stretch in his last five outings.

      2. Miami CF Lewis Brinson had a two-run double in the series opener, improving to 12-for-30 with six runs driven in this month.

      3. Mets RHP Robert Gsellman has yielded four runs on seven hits in his last three relief outings.

      PREDICTION: Mets 4, Marlins 2

Toronto Blue Jays vs. Boston Red Sox Preview and Predictions 09-12-2018 in MLB

MLB Previews 11th September 2018 by Gracenote
        by Gracenote on 09/11/2018

The Boston Red Sox have clinched a playoff spot and now will try to reach the 100-win mark for the fourth time in franchise history when they host the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday in the second contest of a three-game series. With ace Chris Sale throwing a scoreless inning in his return from shoulder issues and Brock Holt slugging a three-run homer, the Red Sox picked up a 7-2 win in the series opener to become the first team in the majors to clinch a spot in the postseason.

The Red Sox are 13-4 against the Blue Jays, including 7-1 at home, and own a commanding nine-game lead over the New York Yankees in the American League East. David Price gets the start Wednesday for Boston as he looks to improve upon some stellar career numbers against the Blue Jays (20-3, 2.52 ERA). He will face a lineup that managed just five hits and one walk against Sale and seven relievers as Toronto fell for the ninth time in its last 11 road games. Right-hander Aaron Sanchez starts for the Blue Jays as he tries to finish another injury-plagued campaign on a good note.

TV: 7:10 p.m. ET, Sportsnet, TVA Sports (Toronto), NESN (Boston)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Blue Jays RH Aaron Sanchez (4-5, 5.17 ERA) vs. Red Sox LH David Price (14-6, 3.57)

Sanchez recorded his first quality start in nearly three months when he gave up three runs in six innings to defeat Tampa Bay last Wednesday. He struck out eight in the outing to tie a season high while picking up his first win since June 3. The one-time All-Star was reached for seven runs in five innings in his last Fenway Park start and is 3-2 with a 4.35 ERA in his career at Boston.

Price bounced back from a rare bad start to limit the Houston Astros to two runs while fanning 10 in 6 1/3 innings on Friday. The bullpen lost Price's lead in that game and the Red Sox lost a start made by the left-hander for the first time since July 1. Devon Travis is 7-for-16 in his career against Price, who owns a 3.08 ERA at Fenway this year.

        WALK-OFFS

        1. Red Sox RF Mookie Betts has scored six runs in his last four games.

        2. Blue Jays IF Lourdes Gurriel Jr. has three doubles, four singles and four walks over his last six games.

        3. Boston has scored at least five runs in each of its 13 games against Toronto.

PREDICTION: Red Sox 6, Blue Jays 3

Brewers vs. Cubs Preview and Predictions

          by Gracenote on 09/12/2018

The Chicago Cubs have done enough to ensure they'll still have the lead in the National League Central when the Milwaukee Brewers leaves town, but both teams recognize the importance of their final head-to-head meeting of the season on Wednesday. The finale of the three-game series will represent a two-game swing in the tight division race, which the Cubs lead by two games.

The Cubs have blanked the Brewers six times, including Tuesday's 3-0 triumph, and have an 11-7 lead in the season series. That head-to-head advantage has been the difference in the NL Central race. The victory snapped a three-game skid for the Cubs and evened the series after Milwaukee posted a 3-2 win in the opener to trim its deficit to one game. The Brewers had won four straight and seven of eight before being limited to three singles on Tuesday.

TV: 8:05 p.m. ET, ESPN, FS Wisconsin (Milwaukee), ABC 7 (Chicago)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Brewers RH Chase Anderson (9-7, 3.95 ERA) vs. Cubs RH Kyle Hendricks (11-10, 3.71)

Anderson is riding a nine-start unbeaten streak but has posted only three quality starts over that stretch. The 30-year-old has allowed three runs over 10 innings in his last two outings - both of which were no-decisions. Anderson is 4-4 with a 2.91 ERA in 10 career starts against the Cubs, including a 1-2 mark this season despite allowing only three runs over 20 frames in three meetings.

The Cubs have won seven of Hendricks' last eight starts - a stretch during which he has posted a 2.90 ERA. The 28-year-old was hurt by his defense last time out as he allowed four runs - one earned - over five innings in a no-decision at Washington, snapping a streak of three consecutive quality starts. Hendricks is 8-4 with a 2.98 ERA in 18 career turns against the Brewers, including a pair of wins this season.

          WALK-OFFS

          1. Brewers OF Christian Yelich has reached base in a career high-tying 27 consecutive games, the longest active streak in the NL.

          2. Cubs 2B-OF Ben Zobrist is 9-for-19 with three homers versus Anderson.

          3. Chicago LF Kyle Schwarber missed his second consecutive game Tuesday with a tight back and is day-to-day.

          PREDICTION: Cubs 4, Brewers 3

Yankees vs. Twins Preview and Predictions

            by Gracenote on 09/12/2018

The New York Yankees appeared to be a lock for the first wild card in the American League a short time ago, but their lead has dwindled significantly as they head into the rubber match of their three-game series against the host Minnesota Twins on Wednesday. New York's cushion over Oakland for home field in the wild-card game was reduced to two games with Tuesday's 10-5 loss.

The Yankees fell to 4-4 on their nine-game road trip and 7-8 overall since sweeping a four-game series at Baltimore from Aug. 24-26 while the Athletics have won five in a row and seven of eight - including two of three versus New York last week - to tighten the race. Didi Gregorius went 2-for-3 in the loss with a triple and a grand slam, but Giancarlo Stanton continued to struggle as he went hitless in two at-bats to drop to 4-for-38 with no homers and two RBIs over his last 10 games. Jorge Polanco collected three hits and an RBI while Joe Mauer belted his fifth career grand slam as the Twins posted their third win in five contests following a five-game losing streak. Polanco has gone 5-for-9 over the first two games of the series and has hit safely in eight of his last nine contests.

TV: 8:10 p.m. ET, YES (New York), FS North (Minnesota)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Yankees RH Luis Severino (17-7, 3.52 ERA) vs. Twins RH Jake Odorizzi (5-10, 4.57)

Severino is coming off his shortest start of the season, a loss at Oakland on Wednesday in which he was tagged for six runs - five earned - and six hits over 2 2/3 innings. The 24-year-old Dominican has suffered five of his seven setbacks on the road, where his ERA (4.16) is more than a full run higher than his mark at home (2.86). Severino made his lone career start against Minnesota on Sept. 20, 2016, when he gave up three runs and five hits over three innings in a no-decision.

Odorizzi lost his third consecutive start on Wednesday as he surrendered five runs on four hits - two homers - and four walks in 4 2/3 innings at Houston. The 28-year-old native of Illinois has won just one of his last 10 outings and worked more than six frames once in 29 turns this season. Odorizzi fell to 5-8 with a 4.61 ERA in 15 career appearances (14 starts) versus the Yankees on April 23, when he yielded five runs on five hits and three walks in 4 2/3 innings at New York.

            WALK-OFFS

            1. Gregorius has hit two of his three career grand slams this season - both versus the Twins.

            2. Mauer's grand slam on Tuesday was his 596th career extra-base hit, tying him with Tony Oliva for fourth place on the Twins' all-time list.

            3. New York 3B Miguel Andujar is tied with Bob Meusel (1920) for the third-most doubles in franchise history by a rookie with 40 and needs five to break the record set in 1936 by Joe DiMaggio.

            PREDICTION: Yankees 8, Twins 1

Chicago White Sox vs. Kansas City Royals Preview and Predictions 09-12-2018 in MLB

White Sox vs. Royals Preview and Predictions

              by Gracenote on 09/12/2018

The Kansas City Royals are on their way to a last-place finish in the American League Central and perhaps a historically bad campaign, but they're showing reasons for optimism down the stretch. The Royals will try to continue their September surge when they host the Chicago White Sox for the finale of their three-game series on Wednesday.

Kansas City clinched its fourth series win in its last six tries with a 6-3 win over the White Sox on Tuesday, improving to 11-5 over that stretch. The Royals have captured seven straight at home, where they are 16-10 since the All-Star break. The White Sox are trending in the opposite direction - they've been outscored 46-16 during their seven-game losing streak, which is one shy of their longest skid of the season. Chicago has scored four runs or fewer in eight consecutive games, batting .205 as a team over that span.

TV: 8:15 p.m. ET, NBCS Chicago, FS Kansas City

PITCHING MATCHUP: White Sox LH Carlos Rodon (6-5, 3.11 ERA) vs. Royals LH Eric Skoglund (1-5, 6.45)

After a dominant string of nine consecutive quality starts, Rodon has struggled in his last two outings, allowing nine runs - eight earned - over 11 innings in consecutive losses. The 25-year-old failed to get through five frames for the first time all season in his last start against the Los Angeles Angels. Rodon is 2-2 with a 3.90 ERA in five starts against the Royals, all of which took place in 2016.

Skoglund returned from the disabled list to throw two scoreless innings of relief Friday at Minnesota, working around two hits and a walk. The 25-year-old will make his first major-league start since May 25 at Texas and is looking for his first win since April 28 against the White Sox. Skoglund is 1-0 with a 2.70 ERA in two meetings with Chicago.

              WALK-OFFS

              1. The Royals have recorded 47 stolen bases since the All-Star break, which ties them with Cleveland for most in the majors.

              2. The White Sox need to win seven of their remaining 17 games to avoid the fourth 100-loss season in franchise history and first since 1970.

              3. Kansas City starters have allowed fewer than three earned runs in 14 of their last 18 contests.

PREDICTION: White Sox 6, Royals 4

Arizona Diamondbacks vs. Colorado Rockies Preview and Predictions 09-12-2018 in MLB

MLB Previews 12th September 2018 by Gracenote
                by Gracenote on 09/12/2018

Arizona Diamondbacks second baseman Ketel Marte has seen his playing time cut in the past week, but there were no signs of rust in Tuesday's 6-3 win over the host Colorado Rockies. Marte drove in four runs in the victory and could be in the lineup again Wednesday when the teams continue their crucial four-game series at Coors Field.

Colorado leads the National League West by 1 1/2 games over the Los Angeles Dodgers and 2 1/2 games over the Diamondbacks, who ended a three-game losing streak with Tuesday's victory. Arizona manager Torey Lovullo started veteran Daniel Descalso at second base in four straight games before Tuesday's contest, when Marte got the start and delivered a two-run triple in the sixth and a two-run single in the ninth. David Peralta belted his 27th homer and Yoshihisa Hirano recorded his first career save in place of Brad Boxberger, who was removed from the closer's role on Monday. Nolan Arenado paced the Rockies with two doubles while Trevor Story doubled in a run to become the second shortstop in major league history with at least 30 home runs, 100 RBI and 25 stolen bases in a single season.

TV: 8:40 p.m. ET, FS Arizona, AT&T SportsNet Rocky Mountain (Colorado)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Diamondbacks LH Patrick Corbin (11-5, 3.01 ERA) vs. Rockies RH Jon Gray (11-7, 4.69)

Corbin won for the first time in four starts last Friday, allowing one run on four hits with nine strikeouts over six innings versus Atlanta. The 29-year-old native of New York has recorded at least seven strikeouts in nine straight starts and owns a 3-1 record and 1.88 ERA in his last six outings. DJ LeMahieu is 16-for-43 with four homers against Corbin, who is 8-3 with a 4.66 ERA in 19 career games (18 starts) against Colorado - including 1-0 with a 3.60 mark in two outings this season.

Gray issued a season-high five walks and allowed two runs over four innings in a no-decision last Friday against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The 26-year-old is 4-0 with a 3.17 ERA and over his last 10 starts since returning from Triple-A Albuquerque. Peralta has eight hits in 16 at-bats against Gray, who owns a 2-3 record and 4.98 ERA in six career starts versus Arizona - including 0-2 with a 6.23 ERA in three career outings at Coors Field.

                WALK-OFFS

                1. The Diamondbacks are 13-6 in their last 19 games at Coors Field - including a nine-game winning streak that ended on July 10.

                2. Colorado OF David Dahl is 5-for-12 with a home run and five RBIs over his last three games.

                3. Arizona 1B Paul Goldschmidt has reached base in a club-record 47 straight road games.

Texas Rangers vs. Los Angeles Angels Preview and Predictions 09-12-2018 in MLB

Rangers vs. Angels Preview and Predictions

                  by Gracenote on 09/12/2018

After flirting with history while evening the series, the Los Angeles Angels look to remain hot when they host the Texas Rangers on Wednesday for the rubber match of their three-game set. Six pitchers combined to work seven hitless innings Tuesday before the seventh, Blake Parker, yielded a one-out single in the eighth, but the Angels went on to post a 1-0 victory.

Parker allowed both of Texas' hits as eight Los Angeles hurlers teamed up to record the shutout in the team's fifth win in six games. The Angels also registered only two hits - including one by 30-year-old rookie Jose Fernandez, who belted his first career homer in the second inning to provide the team's fourth run in three contests. Isiah Kiner-Falefa broke up the no-hitter on Tuesday and Rougned Odor also recorded a single, giving him a hit in eight of his last nine games. The Rangers have lost six of their last eight contests, with half of the setbacks coming against Los Angeles.

TV: 10:07 p.m. ET, FS Southwest (Texas), FS West (Los Angeles)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Rangers RH Yovani Gallardo (8-4, 6.22 ERA) vs. Angels RH Felix Pena (2-4, 4.04)

Gallardo, who won seven of his first eight decisions after joining the rotation, suffered his third loss in four decisions on Friday after surrendering five runs on six hits and five walks in 4 1/3 innings at Oakland. The 32-year-old from Mexico has worked more than five frames just once in his last five outings and more than six in one of his 14 turns this year. Gallardo has yet to defeat the Angels in his career, going 0-1 with a 5.14 ERA in four starts and one relief appearance.

In contrast to Gallardo, Pena has pitched at least six innings in each of his last five starts and seven in both of his last two outings, including a road victory over the Chicago White Sox on Friday in which he allowed two runs and seven hits. The triumph was the first since June 29 at Baltimore for the 28-year-old Dominican, who did not issue a walk in either of his last two turns. Pena, who is 0-3 with a 6.17 ERA in nine games (seven starts) at home this season but owns a 2.21 road ERA, has yet to face Texas in his career.

                  WALK-OFFS

                  1. The Angels recalled RHP Parker Bridwell, who made his lone appearance this season in a start against Oakland on April 6, from Triple-A Salt Lake.

                  2. Odor registered his 11th stolen base on Tuesday and is four away from matching the career high he set last season.

                  3. Los Angeles RHP Nick Tropeano has been shut down for the season due to inflammation in his right shoulder, which has not improved during his rehab.

                  PREDICTION: Angels 4, Rangers 3

Hottest team: Athletics (8-2 last 10)

It’s amazing to think that with less than three weeks left in the regular season that Oakland owns more wins (88) than seven playoff teams from last season (Indians, Twins, Cubs, Dodgers, Rockies, Diamondbacks, and Nationals). The A’s continued their dominance of the lowly Orioles by beating Baltimore for the fourth time in four tries in Tuesday’s 3-2 victory at Camden Yards. Oakland picked up its fifth consecutive victory overall, while winning for the 12th time in the past 17 contests.

The A’s send out right-hander Liam Hendriks to the mound tonight for his fourth start of the season. Hendriks hasn’t lasted past the second inning in any of his first three starts as Oakland has decided to use a bullpen by committee approach with the Australian hurler. Since Baltimore swept Toronto at home in late August, the Orioles have lost nine of their past 10 games.

Coldest team: Giants (0-10 last 10)

While Oakland is closing in a playoff berth, its friends on the other side of the Bay are counting the days until the season end. The Giants are riding a 10-game skid following Tuesday’s 4-1 defeat to the Braves as the road team is now 5-0 in five matchups this season. San Francisco’s offense has produced exactly one run in each of its last four games at AT&T Park, all losses, while scoring three runs or less nine times during this cold stretch.

The Giants try to avoid their third consecutive sweep this afternoon as southpaw Derek Holland takes the mound. Holland has allowed five earned runs in his last five starts, although the Giants have dropped his last two outings to the Mets and Brewers. The Braves have extended their lead over the Phillies in the NL East to 6 ½ games as Atlanta has lost four of its past five games to end a road trip of at least six games.

Hottest pitcher: Blake Snell, Rays (18-5, 2.06 ERA)

The AL Cy Young race will come down to the finish as Snell has put himself in a great position. The Tampa Bay southpaw has won six consecutive starts, including a 5-3 win over Cleveland at Progressive Field on September 1. Snell has been especially dominant at home by winning nine of 10 decisions at Tropicana Field, while owning a 1.23 ERA. The Rays look to bounce back after seeing their 12-game home winning streak snapped by the Indians last night in a 2-0 defeat.

Coldest pitcher: Jake Odorizzi, Twins (5-10, 4.57 ERA)

Odorizzi has struggled against two division leaders in his past two starts by allowing eight earned runs in 10 innings of losses to the Indians and Astros on the road. Odorizzi returns home for tonight’s start, but faces another likely playoff squad in the Yankees. Since the start of July, the Twins are 5-1 in Odorizzi’s last six outings at Target Field. However, Odorizzi struggled in two starts against the Yankees last season as a member of the Rays by losing a pair of starts at home.

Biggest OVER run: Mets (5-0-1 last six)

Although it was only a 5-3 game last night, the Mets cashed the OVER on a 6 ½ total in a defeat to Miami as heavy favorites with ace Jacob deGrom on the mound. New York’s pitching staff has allowed at least four runs in four consecutive games, while the Mets have seen totals of seven or less in each of the past five contests. The Mets and Marlins hook up for a double-header at Citi Field as Zack Wheeler and Jason Vargas are the two starters for New York. Wheeler has tossed at least seven innings in six of his last seven outings, while Vargas has cashed the UNDER in five straight home starts.

Biggest UNDER run: Mariners (5-0 last five)

Seattle’s meltdown towards a postseason berth was solidified in Tuesday’s 2-1 loss to San Diego. Not only did the Mariners lose to the last-place Padres for the third time in three tries, but Seattle’s offense produced three runs or fewer for the seventh time in eight games. The M’s have cashed the UNDER in six of seven games on their current homestand, while the lone OVER against Baltimore hit on a 7 ½ total in a 5-3 loss. Seattle will try to salvage its series with San Diego this afternoon as Wade LeBlanc heads to the hill for the M’s. The UNDER trend may turn around as the OVER has cashed in each of LeBlanc’s last three starts at Safeco Field, but the M’s have lost each of those three contests.

Matchup to watch: Diamondbacks vs. Rockies

The three-horse race in the NL West continues to be a mystery on who will come out on top. The Dodgers have lost the last two games to the Reds on the road, while Colorado and Arizona have split the first two games of their series at Coors Field. Following Colorado’s blowout on Monday, the D-backs bounced back on Tuesday in a 6-3 win behind Zack Greinke as the Rockies lead the Dodgers by 1 ½ games and own a 2 ½-game edge over Arizona.

Patrick Corbin takes the mound for Arizona as the southpaw is winless in his last two road starts. The left-hander beat the Braves his last time out to pick up his 11th victory on the season, while Arizona owns a 2-0 record in Corbin’s two outings against Colorado. The D-backs improved to 3-6 in the last nine road games with Tuesday’s victory, but Arizona needs every win down the stretch as its next four series come against the Astros, Cubs, Rockies, and Dodgers.

Jon Gray counters for Colorado, as the Rockies have won 10 of the past 12 starts made by the right-hander. Gray is facing the D-backs for the first time since the opening series of the season in Phoenix as he allowed three earned runs in four innings of an 8-2 loss. The Rockies have captured five of Gray’s last six starts at Coors Field, but Colorado lost to Los Angeles in a 4-2 setback in his past home outing last Friday.

The Phillies put together a terrific turnaround this season, but Philadelphia is falling apart at the wrong time. After getting swept in a double-header by the Nationals on Tuesday, Philadelphia fell to 6-16 in the last 22 games. Ace Aaron Nola heads to the hill tonight opposite Washington’s Stephen Strasburg as the Phillies have lost each of Nola’s last two home starts since beginning the season at 12-0 in the right-hander’s outings at Citizens Bank Park.

The Arizona Diamondbacks and Colorado Rockies will continue their series on Wednesday at Coors Field, jockeying for position in the National League West while also trying to keep pace in the Wild-Card race, too. LHP Patrick Corbin will work for Arizona while RHP Jon Gray starts for Colorado. The under is an impressive 9-1 in the past 10 road outings for the D-Backs, while going 7-1-1 in their past nine road outings against a right-handed starter. It doesn't seem normal, but the under is the trend for Colorado lately. The under is 12-3 in Colorado's past 15 at home vs. LHP while going 20-7-1 in their past 28 games at Coors Field overall. For whatever reason, Coors Field seems to agree with Gray.
