The Sacramento Kings have won three in a row after opening a four-game road trip with a 123-113 triumph at the Miami Heat on Monday. The 4-3 Kings are above .500 after seven games for just the second time in 12 seasons, the other time being a 5-2 start in 2014-15. Sacramento is over .500 for the first time since Oct. 29, 2016. The Kings will seek a fourth consecutive victory when it visits the struggling Orlando Magic on Tuesday. Orlando has dropped back-to-back games and has lost four of its last five contests to come in 2-4. The Magic own a pair of three-point wins but three of their four losses have been by double digits
The Kings held a 68-38 edge in points in the paint against the Heat, while also possessing an 18-8 margin in fast-break points. Center Willie Cauley-Stein (17.9 & 8.7) had another big game with 26 points and 13 rebounds, giving him three consecutive double-doubles. Cauley-Stein was 11-of-17 shooting to raise his percentage to 58.1 and he has scored in double digits in all seven games. Shooting guard Buddy Hield has topped the 20-point mark in each game of the winning streak and is tied with PG
De'Aaron Fox with a team-high 18.0 PPG average (Fox leads the Kings with 7.1 APG).
Orlando took a franchise-record 43, three-point shots in Saturday's 113-91 road loss to the Milwaukee Bucks but managed to make just 10. The Magic are shooting just 31.6 percent behind the arc (ranks 27th in the league). Orlando has dropped back-to-back games behind a suspect defense that has allowed 120.5 points in the two losses. "We're getting crushed -- two games in a row, here -- by the good (but not great) players," Orlando coach Steve Clifford told reporters. "I'm not saying that it's easy, but if we're not going to be able to guard the good players, then we're not going to be able to play defense."
At the moment, the Kings clearly look like the better team but let's not be too quick to 'crown the Kings!' After all, the Kings entered this season 65-140 (.317) the last five season on the road and I'm not about to make too much over the team's better-than-expected seven-game start. Sacramento has won three straight from Orlando but a win on Tuesday would mark its longest winning streak in the all-time series. Take Orlando.
