The Sacramento Kings have been one of the biggest surprises of the young season. They are 5-3 SU & 6-2 ATS this season with their only losses coming on the road to the Pelicans and Nuggets, and at home to the Jazz. They have also gone on the road and beaten the Thunder, Heat and Magic outright as underdogs. That’s what makes their 5-3 start so impressive is that it has been a road-heavy schedule. And now they’re up against arguably the worst team in the NBA in the Atlanta Hawks, who are 2-5 SU & 2-5 ATS this season. The Hawks are coming off three straight double-digit losses to the Bulls, 76ers and Cavs. Atlanta is 3-18 ATS in its last 21 home games after failing to cover five or six of its last seven ATS. The Hawks are 4-15 ATS off a road loss by 10 points or more over the last two seasons. Sacramento is 15-7 ATS in its last 22 road games. Give me the Kings.

My money is on the 49ers to cash in a win at home against the Raiders on Thursday Night Football. I know it's a game-time decision for San Francisco quarterback C.J. Beathard, but with or without him, I like the 49ers to win this game. I just don't like the mindset of this Raiders team. I think the players threw in the towel after management traded away another one of their top players. This time being wide out Amari Cooper. Add in them coming off a crushing loss to the Colts, where they just gave the game to Indy in the 4th quarter, and playing on just 3-days rest, I just don't see this team being motivated at all for this game. While the wins have been difficult to come by, San Francisco has continued to play extremely hard and I expect a good showing out of them at home in prime time. Bet the 49ers -3!

My free winner for tonight is on college football, as I like the Ohio Bobcats to dispatch the unraveling Western Michigan Broncos in a critical Mid-American Conference battle in Kalamazoo, Mich.

Ohio is in after totaling 411 yards rushing in a dominating 52-14 triumph over MAC West Division-foe Ball State last Thursday. Read that again, that said RUSHING. Only.

The Bobcats’ 411 yards via the ground marked the eighth-most in a single game in program history and the most since Ohio racked up 414 yards rushing in a 38-21 win over Ball State back in 2005.

Ohio scored six rushing touchdowns, the program’s most in a single game since scoring six in a 47-7 rout at Eastern Michigan way back in 1997.

In all, the Bobcats tallied 554 total yards of offense and scored on eight-straight possessions against Ball State. Tonight they'll carry that over to this week, looking to become bowl elgible, while keeping their eyes on a shot at the MAC title game.

Western Michigan flopped last week against Toledo, and I don't trust that defense against Ohio's explosive skill set. The 'Cats average 38.2 points per game, and rank first in the league with 468.6 yards per battle.

Ohio runs the ball well, which means it will be able to keep the ball away from the Broncos and control the tempo of this game.

Play the road team in this one, as the 'Cats roll.

                              1* OHIO

It's Week Nine of the NFL season, and what had looked to be "must see TV" when the schedule came out before the season started is not that at all "must see TV" for this Thursday night Week Nine opener.

Both Oakland and San Francisco have one win apiece, but unless there is a tie tonight, one of these teams will notch win number two on the year. My money says it will be the 49ers with both the win and the cover.

It is becoming crystal clear that year one of the Jon Gruden era in Oakland has turned into a roster overhaul, and while the maligned Derek Carr is still with the Raiders as their quarterback, you have to wonder what his mindset is for the rest of the season?

Oakland was outscored 21-0 in the fourth quarter at home on Sunday, as they wound up a 42-28 loser to drop to 1-5 this season when getting points, including 4 losses in a row as the underdog.

While that was going on in Oakland, San Francisco coughed up a 15-3 lead at Arizona as they allowed a touchdown with 34 seconds remaining to fall to the Cardinals.

I know laying -3 points with a one win club may seem unwise, but keep in mind that under the Thursday night lights this year, the home team is 6-2 with a 5-2-1 spread mark. That includes last Thursday's win and cover at home by the Texans over the Dolphins.

With Oakland clearly playing the string out this season, will side with San Francisco to come through with another home team win and cover under the Thursday lights.

                                2* SAN FRANCISCO
