Chicago Blackhawks vs. Washington Capitals Preview and Predictions 11-21-2018

NHL Predictions 20th November 2018 by Gracenote
    by Gracenote on 11/20/2018

The Chicago Blackhawks have begun to turn things around with points in four straight contests as they embark on a difficult stretch of six games by visiting the reigning Stanley Cup champion Washington Capitals on Wednesday night. Chicago is 2-0-2 in the last four contests and will visit Tampa Bay, Florida, Winnipeg and Nashville along with entertaining Vegas during the next 11 days.

"The schedule is not as (important) as how we're playing," Blackhawks coach Jeremy Colliton told the Chicago Tribune. "And, OK, we're playing better. It's nice to see us get rewarded with some points. That just helps us keep momentum going, keep the belief going that, hey, we're on the right track." Chicago captain Jonathan Toews said the team is finding its confidence as it prepares to take on the Capitals, who won three of four on a just-completed road trip that saw them lose two of their top five scorers to head injuries for two contests. Center Evgeny Kuznetsov (21 points) and right wing T.J. Oshie (nine goals) are questionable for Wednesday, but goalie Braden Holtby returned after missing three games to stop all 22 shots in relief as Washington rallied from two goals down to beat Montreal 5-4 in overtime Monday. "I think (Montreal) had a pretty lucky start to the second period, you know, three shots on goal and everything goes in," captain Alex Ovechkin told reporters. "We just regrouped, no panic. We knew we had plenty time to bounce back."

TV: 7 p.m. ET, WGN (Chicago), NBCS Washington

ABOUT THE BLACKHAWKS (8-8-5): Left wing Brandon Saad has scored in back-to-back outings and boasts six goals in the past 11 contests after being shut out the first eight games of the season. "When (Saad) goes there and demands the puck, it's fun to watch because it's so hard to take it off him," Toews told the Tribune. "He's powerful, he's protecting it so well, and he just opens up so much space for his linemates." Right wing Patrick Kane leads the team with 25 points and seven of them have come in the last seven games while Toews has five of his 18 in the past four contests, including two goals and three assists.

ABOUT THE CAPITALS (10-7-3): Ovechkin has scored three of his team-best 15 goals in the past two games and shares the team lead in points (23) with center Nicklas Backstrom, who scored twice in the last two contests. John Carlson was fourth in scoring among defensemen in the league with 21 points entering Tuesday after recording three of his 16 assists in the past two contests. Brooks Orpik underwent arthroscopic knee surgery Tuesday and is expected to miss 4-to-6 more weeks, giving fellow defenseman Madison Bowey (three assists, plus-3 rating, 13 games) more time to win a spot in the lineup.

    OVERTIME

    1. Washington C Lars Eller scored the winner in overtime Monday, his first goal in nine games.

    2. Chicago G Corey Crawford allowed two goals on 100 shots in the last three games, going 2-0-1 in that stretch.

    3. Capitals F Tom Wilson has a goal and four assists in four games since returning from a suspension.

    PREDICTION: Capitals 4, Blackhawks 2

Philadelphia Flyers vs. Buffalo Sabres Preview and Predictions 11-21-2018

NHL Predictions 20th November 2018 by Gracenote
Flyers vs. Sabres Preview and Predictions

      by Gracenote on 11/20/2018

The Buffalo Sabres have made it a habit of erasing third-period deficits, so much so that they have accomplished that feat five times during their six-game win streak. The Sabres bid to keep surging ahead on Wednesday when they host the Philadelphia Flyers, who overcame a four-goal deficit in the third period before dropping a 6-5 overtime decision in their last contest.

"There's a bit of confidence now because we've done it a few times. I think it's a trust and a belief in each other," said captain Jack Eichel, who scored 45 seconds into overtime on Monday as Buffalo overcame a three-goal deficit to win its sixth straight for the first time since the 2009-10 season with a 5-4 victory versus Pittsburgh. The resilient Sabres have won all six contests by one goal -- with four coming either in overtime or a shootout -- heading into a stretch of three games in four nights. Philadelphia has dropped its last three contests (0-2-1) despite outshooting its foes by a combined 104-83 margin, including 45-26 in Saturday afternoon's wild 6-5 overtime loss to Tampa Bay. "We've talked about different things we can do a little better -- simplifying things, making sure we're getting to the net," Flyers coach Dave Hakstol said, per Philly.com. "To have the floodgates open in the third period the other night was needed and was a good thing for us."

TV: 7:30 p.m. ET, NBCS Philadelphia-Plus, NBC Sports Network

ABOUT THE FLYERS (9-9-2): Alex Lyon, who posted a 4-2-1 mark in 11 appearances with Philadelphia in 2017-18, is expected to make his first NHL start of this season on Wednesday after being recalled from Lehigh Valley of the American Hockey League last week. "I've prepared the right way," the former Yale star said after Tuesday's practice. "I'm just sticking to the same game plan. I just tried to go out and have a really good practice today, and whenever the situation may call, I'll be ready for it." The Flyers have been much more ready on the road, where they are 3-0-1 in their last four overall and 5-3-1 on the season as opposed to 4-6-1 at Wells Fargo Center.

ABOUT THE SABRES (13-6-2): Jeff Skinner has embraced playing on a line with Eichel and Jason Pominville, scoring eight of his team-high 14 goals this month. "You want to have success individually, as a line and as a team," the 26-year-old Skinner told the Buffalo News. "Obviously, it's a pretty small sample and for us we want to try to sustain it over a long period of time. ... We've had some success and now the key is to keep working every day to get better and keep improving." Eichel has 19 (two goals, 17 assists) of his club-best 24 points in his last 14 games while Pominville has 16 (eight goals, eight assists) in that stretch.

      OVERTIME

      1. Philadelphia C Sean Couturier (team-leading eight goals) tallied twice in three encounters last season with Buffalo.

      2. The availability of Sabres D Marco Scandella (knee) is unclear after he was on the receiving end of Evgeni Malkin's shot on Monday.

      3. The Flyers went 3-for-5 on the power play on Saturday after going for 2-for-32 in their previous 11 games.

      PREDICTION: Sabres 4, Flyers 1

Boston Bruins vs. Detroit Red Wings Preview and Predictions 11-21-2018

NHL Predictions 20th November 2018 by Gracenote
        by Gracenote on 11/20/2018

The Boston Bruins hope to have one of their injured defensemen back in the lineup when they conclude their four-game road trip Wednesday against the Detroit Red Wings. Kevan Miller, who hasn't played since Oct. 18 because of a hand injury, looks to become the first of Boston's six ailing blueliners to return to action after participating in practice the past few days.

"That's the plan. We'll see. He'll be a game-time decision," Bruins coach Bruce Cassidy told reporters Monday. "He's been practicing. ... (He) should be cleared and good to go for Wednesday." Boston improved to 1-1-1 on its trek with Saturday's 2-1 triumph at Arizona in which Jakob Forsbacka Karlsson scored his first career goal 72 seconds into the contest. Detroit, which edged New Jersey in overtime Saturday for its fifth win in six games, may get two injured players back for Wednesday's Original Six showdown. Thomas Vanek (knee) and defenseman Jonathan Ericsson (lower body) have been practicing and are possibilities for the lineup barring any setbacks.

TV: 7:30 p.m. ET, NESN (Boston), FS Detroit Plus

ABOUT THE BRUINS (11-6-3): While Miller figures to return, Boston still will be without defensemen Zdeno Chara (knee), Charlie McAvoy (concussion), John Moore (lower body), Brandon Carlo (upper body) and Urho Vaakanainen (concussion). Also missing from the lineup will be Patrice Bergeron, who is battling an upper-body injury he suffered against Dallas on Friday. Despite sitting out Saturday's victory, the 33-year-old center leads the team in assists (17) and points (26).

ABOUT THE RED WINGS (9-9-2): While Vanek and Ericsson are on the verge of returning, Darren Helm is likely to be sidelined for some time because of the upper-body injury he suffered in the win over the Devils. "He was evaluated today," coach Jeff Blashill told reporters Monday. "Like I said after the game, this is not a day-to-day thing. He'll be out a good amount of time." Dylan Larkin, who scored the game-winning goal Saturday, leads the team with 19 points and has landed on the scoresheet in four of his last five contests.

        OVERTIME

        1. Bruins RW David Pastrnak, who tops the club with 17 goals, collected five tallies and three assists during a three-game point streak before being kept off the scoreboard in each of his last two contests.

        2. Detroit C Frans Nielsen ranks third on the team with 10 assists but has yet to record a goal this season.

        3. Boston LW Jake DeBrusk has registered three goals in as many games to pull within one of Bergeron (nine) for second on the team.

PREDICTION: Bruins 5, Red Wings 1

Florida Panthers vs. Tampa Bay Lightning Preview and Predictions 11-21-2018

NHL Predictions 20th November 2018 by Gracenote
          by Gracenote on 11/20/2018

The Tampa Bay Lightning return to Amalie Arena after an eventful 2-2-0 road trip and face the Sunshine State rival Florida Panthers on Wednesday for the first time since opening night to start a five-game homestand. Tampa Bay, which earned a 2-1 shootout victory over the Panthers on Oct. 6, won a pair of wild games in Pittsburgh and Philadelphia before coming up short 3-2 despite a furious finish Monday in Nashville.

"To be honest, I thought we would tie that game and win," Lightning goalie Louis Domingue told reporters. "It's one of those nights where it just didn't quite bounce for us at the end. ... Most of the time we're going to win those games. The Lightning lost No. 1 goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy (foot) to injury early in the trip, scored four power-play goals in Pittsburgh, blew a four-goal lead in Philadelphia before winning in overtime and outshot Nashville 14-5 in the third period. Florida earned its sixth win in eight games Monday with a 7-5 triumph at Ottawa, but lost a key player indefinitely as center Vincent Trocheck went down with a serious leg injury. The Panthers will need even more from their top players as left wing Mike Hoffman boasts a 16-game point streak and right wing Evgenii Dadonov has hit the scoresheet in 14 of his last 15 contests.

TV: 7:30 p.m. ET, FS Florida, FS Sun (Tampa Bay)

ABOUT THE PANTHERS (8-7-3): Trocheck had three goals and 11 assists in 18 games before the injury and was coming off career highs of 31 tallies and 75 points in 2017-18. "We know it's not going to be a short-term thing, by the looks of it," Panthers coach Bob Boughner told reporters of Trocheck. "He's an important piece to the puzzle in there. He's one of our leaders; the guy that plays with a lot of passion every night." Captain Aleksander Barkov recorded four goals and four assists in the last seven games while defenseman Keith Yandle is tied with him at 17 points - two behind Hoffman and Dadonov.

ABOUT THE LIGHTNING (14-6-1): Domingue has faced a barrage of shots during some loose play by Tampa Bay since taking over in Buffalo to start the trip, turning aside 116 of 129 shots (.899 save percentage). Center Brayden Point stayed hot with two assists in Nashville after scoring five times in the previous two games and leads the team with 14 goals and 26 points while boasting a plus-7 rating. Right wing Nikita Kucherov has six of his 24 points in the last three games (one goal) and versatile forward Yanni Gourde gives the Lightning three players with 20 points (eight goals, 12 assists).

          OVERTIME

          1. Florida F Juho Lammikko tied a franchise record with four assists Monday and could get more playing time with Trocheck out.

          2. Tampa Bay D Erik Cernak, who is replacing injured D Anton Stralman (upper body), notched his first NHL point Monday (assist).

          3. The Lightning have earned at least a point in six of the last seven games (5-1-1) against the Panthers.

          PREDICTION: Lightning 4, Panthers 3

Ottawa Senators vs. Minnesota Wild Preview and Predictions 11-21-2018

NHL Predictions 20th November 2018 by Gracenote
            by Gracenote on 11/20/2018

It was the same old story for the Ottawa Senators during Monday's 7-5 loss to Florida as they've had no problem scoring goals this season, sitting tied for first in the league with 75, but can't keep the puck out of their own net having given up a league-leading 88. The Senators will hope for a better defensive effort Wednesday when they visit the Minnesota Wild to begin a four-game road trip.

Senators center Matt Duchene added two goals and an assist Monday to move into a tie with Pittsburgh's Evgeni Malkin for fifth in league scoring with 27 points, but the 10-year veteran knows that scoring is just half the battle when you're looking for wins. "Allowing seven goals is not good enough," Duchene told reporters. "Half of that is not even what we want to be giving up. We can tighten up and be better there." Zach Parise is on pace for 37 goals this season - which would be his most since 2009-10 - after he potted the Wild's only goal in their 3-1 loss to the Blackhawks on Sunday. Center Mikko Koivu and defenseman Matt Dumba extended their point streaks to four games as they assisted on Parise's power-play marker in the second period.

TV: 8 p.m. ET, Sportsnet 360 (Ottawa), FS North (Minnesota)

ABOUT THE SENATORS (9-9-3): Craig Anderson gave up six of Florida's seven goals in less than two periods Monday before being pulled, bumping the netminder's goals against average to 3.78 - his worst since his rookie season with the Blackhawks in 2003. Thomas Chabot is doing the best he can to help Senators fans forget Erik Karlsson as the 21-year-old was tied for the league lead in assists by a defenseman with 19 (San Jose's Brent Burns) entering Tuesday and is one point away from tying his total output from last season (25). Ottawa looks like they made the right decision on draft night when they took Brady Tkachuk with the fourth pick as the teenage rookie scored another goal Monday, giving him 10 points in his first 10 NHL games.

ABOUT THE WILD (12-7-2): With their loss to Chicago, the Wild lost consecutive games in regulation for the first time this season after dropping a 3-2 contest to Buffalo at home on Saturday. "It's a good thing we're not accustomed to losing two in a row," Parise told the media. "But now you just have to make sure it's not three in a row." Minnesota can take solace knowing that the opportunities are there as they scored only three goals in the two losses but outshot the Blackhawks 40-28 and the Sabres 39-29.

            OVERTIME

            1. The Senators are giving up 5.6 goals per game over their last seven away from home - six of which have been losses.

            2. Duchene and teammate Mark Stone are tied for the league lead in November scoring with 16 points apiece, two more than Montreal's Max Domi. More impressively, the pair are not playing on the same line.

            3. Minnesota's penalty killing ranks third in the NHL at 84.9 percent while Ottawa sits last at 68.2 percent.

            PREDICTION: Wild 5, Senators 3

St. Louis Blues vs. Nashville Predators Preview and Predictions 11-21-2018

NHL Predictions 20th November 2018 by Gracenote
              by Gracenote on 11/20/2018

St. Louis lost its scoring touch and it ultimately cost coach Mike Yeo his job as the Blues try to snap an eight-game losing streak in Nashville against the Predators on Wednesday. St. Louis fired Yeo on Monday and replaced him with interim Craig Berube, who must figure out a way to reignite an offense that hasn't scored in 142 minutes, 48 seconds.

"We have a lot of chances," Blues forward Vladimir Tarasenko told reporters. "You can see it from upstairs too. Chances come off of hard work. It's not from fancy chances or good plays. ... It's hard to win when you don't score goals." Tarasenko is part of the issue as the 26-year-old Russian, who averaged 37.3 goals over the past four seasons, has six in 2018-19 while riding an eight-game scoreless streak. Nashville rebounded from its only losing streak of the season (0-2-1) that ended a five-game road trip by winning the first two of three straight contests at home, including a 3-2 victory over Tampa Bay on Monday that gave it an NHL-best 31 points. The Predators are 3-for-7 on the power play in their last two games, improving their second-worst league average to 13.6 percent after going 0-for-15 in the previous three contests.

TV: 8 p.m. ET, FS Midwest (St. Louis), FS Tennessee (Nashville)

ABOUT THE BLUES (7-9-3): Ryan O'Reilly has scored seven of his team-high 10 goals in nine November games with St. Louis getting shut out in three of those contests and also paces the club with 23 points. Alexander Steen (five goals) is day-to-day with an upper-body injury while Jaden Schwartz, who has two goals and nine points in 15 games this season after totaling 24 and 59 in 2017-18, is expected to miss his third straight contest (upper body). Jake Allen (5-5-3, 3.33 goals-against average, .895 save percentage) has yielded one goal in each of his last three games and is 6-5-0, 2.73, .915 in 12 games versus Nashville.

ABOUT THE PREDATORS (15-5-1): Ryan Johansen leads the team with 20 points (16 assists) after recording a goal and an assist Monday while Filip Forsberg (19 points) scored his club-high 13th goal of the season Monday. Pekka Rinne (8-2-1, 1.69, .942) leads the league in GAA and SP, and is 23-16-4, 2.02, .930 with four shutouts in 43 games versus St. Louis. Defenseman P.K. Subban (upper-body injury) hasn't played since leaving a 5-4 loss at San Jose on Nov. 13 and while he's eligible to return from injured reserve Wednesday, he hasn't been on the ice with the team since.

              OVERTIME

              1. The Blues are 0-for-14 on the power play over the last six games, falling to ninth in the league at 24.2 percent, while the Predators' penalty-killing unit is 13-for-14 in the past five contests.

              2. Rinne won his 319th game Monday, tying him with Miikka Kiprusoff for most victories by a Finnish-born goaltender.

              3. Nashville swept the four-game season series in 2017-18 after defeating St. Louis 4-2 in the 2017 Western Conference semifinals.

              PREDICTION: Predators 3, Blues 2

Vegas Golden Knights vs. Arizona Coyotes Preview and Predictions 11-21-2018

NHL Predictions 20th November 2018 by Gracenote
                by Gracenote on 11/20/2018

The Vegas Golden Knights used the Arizona Coyotes as a springboard during their wildly successful inaugural season, sweeping a home-and-home set within the first week and beating their new Pacific Division rival four times in their first 26 games. When the teams meet for the first time this season on Wednesday in Arizona, Vegas is looking up in the standings at the Coyotes.

The Golden Knights have not won back-to-back games in a month and part of their struggles is a dismal 4-9-0 road record. "Any team can win a game in this league," forward Reilly Smith said after Vegas answered a 6-3 win at Edmonton by getting mauled in Calgary 7-2. "If you're going back and forth like we are right now, we're just playing like a bad team." Arizona has lost five of seven (2-4-1) after splitting the first two contests of its five-game homestand against Nashville and Boston. The Coyotes have managed 14 goals during the last seven games and have been limited to two or fewer five times in that span.

TV: 8 p.m. ET, TVAS, AT&T Sportsnet-Rocky Mountain (Vegas), FS Arizona Plus

ABOUT THE GOLDEN KNIGHTS (9-12-1): While forward Jonathan Marchessault became the only Vegas player to reach 10 goals over the weekend, the hope is that Max Pacioretty is snapping out of his offensive slumber after scoring in back-to-back games in Alberta. Pacioretty, who turned 30 on Tuesday, was a five-time 30-goal scorer with the Montreal Canadiens but has just four tallies in his first season with Vegas. Marc-Andre Fleury, who has gone 11 straight starts without consecutive wins, went 2-1-0 with a 1.99 goals-against average versus the Coyotes last season.

ABOUT THE COYOTES (9-9-1): Brad Richardson scored a combined eight goals over the previous two seasons but notched his team-leading sixth in Saturday's 2-1 setback to the Bruins. Richardson has scored four times in nine games to overtake teammate Clayton Keller, who has failed to tally in that same span and remains stuck on five goals. "I think he's done some really nice stuff this year," coach Rick Tocchet said of Keller, a 23-goal scorer last season. "Teams are going to pay attention to him so he's going to have to change his game. I've talked to him about certain things."

                OVERTIME

                1. Coyotes D Alex Goligoski (lower body) and Jakob Chychrun (upper body) are game-time decisions for Wednesday.

                2. Marchessault had two goals and six points in five meetings versus the Coyotes in 2017-18.

                3. Arizona sent D Robbie Russo to Tucson of the American Hockey League.

PREDICTION: Golden Knights 4, Coyotes 2

Winnipeg Jets vs. Calgary Flames Preview and Predictions 11-21-2018

NHL Predictions 20th November 2018 by Gracenote
                  by Gracenote on 11/20/2018

The Winnipeg Jets travel to Calgary on Wednesday to face the Flames in a matchup of two teams that displayed plenty of offensive firepower in victories Monday. Johnny Gaudreau recorded four points in the first period and Matthew Tkachuk scored twice as Calgary recorded the first seven goals in a 7-2 rout of Vegas, while Winnipeg's Patrik Laine netted his sixth career hat trick as the Jets fired 49 shots on goal to down Vancouver 6-3.

The Flames are 7-3-0 in their past 10 games and entered Tuesday tied with San Jose for first place in the Pacific Division with 25 points, as Gaudreau finished with a goal and three assists. "There's not a whole bunch of them that have the ability to slow the game down and buy time for guys to get open, and he's got it," Calgary coach Bill Peters told reporters after Monday's game in describing Gaudreau, who is tied for ninth in the NHL with 17 assists through Monday. Winnipeg started a four-game road trip Monday with its fourth victory in the past five games and Laine - who had just one even-strength goal on the season coming into the contest - scored twice in 5-on-5 situations and added an empty-net goal. "If you stay patient and work hard you're going to get rewarded," Laine told the media afterward. "I got rewarded tonight."

                  TV: 10 p.m. ET, Sportsnet

ABOUT THE JETS (12-5-2): Laine's three goals give him 11 on the season, sharing the team lead with center Mark Scheifele, who netted his 11th in the first period. Forward Kyle Connor scored his 10th goal, extending his goal-scoring streak to three games, and added three assists to give him 15 points (six goals) in his past 12 games. Goaltender Connor Hellebuyck made 22 saves for his ninth win of the season, tying him for second in the NHL.

ABOUT THE FLAMES (12-8-1): Gaudreau had just one assist in his previous five games, but tied a franchise record with his four-point period to raise his season total to 24 points in 21 games. Goaltender David Rittich stopped 20-of-22 shots to improve to 7-1-0 on the season Monday, and ranks second in goals against average (1.93) and fourth in save percentage (.931). Center Sean Monahan scored his team-leading 12th goal Monday, while Tkachuk's two tallies give him 11 on the season.

                  OVERTIME

                  1. Winnipeg F Kristian Vesalainen was reassigned to Manitoba of the AHL on Tuesday.

                  2. Calgary F James Neal remains stuck at 499 career points after his seventh consecutive pointless game Monday.

                  3. The Jets have the top power-play unit in the NHL (32.1 percent), while the Flames are 24th in penalty kill (75.8).

                  PREDICTION: Flames 5, Jets 4

Colorado Avalanche vs. Los Angeles Kings Preview and Predictions 11-21-2018

NHL Predictions 20th November 2018 by Gracenote
                    by Gracenote on 11/20/2018

The Los Angeles Kings haven't had much reason to smile this season, but a shutout by a rookie goaltender to complete a 2-0-1 road trip is as good a reason as any for the cellar-dwelling club. The Kings hope Cal Petersen continues his success on Wednesday when they open a three-game homestand against the high-powered Colorado Avalanche, who are averaging an NHL third-best 3.55 goals per contest.

"He played well all the way through the trip. We're in a bit of a tough spot, so we really needed him to play well, and he played well," Los Angeles coach Willie Desjardins said of Petersen, who made 29 saves in Monday's 2-0 win over St. Louis. The 24-year-old Petersen has turned aside 116 of 122 shots in parts of four games while filling in for fellow netminders Jonathan Quick and Jack Campbell, who are sidelined with meniscus tears. Petersen likely will be tested by a Colorado club that features a top line consisting of Mikko Rantanen (NHL-best 32 points), Nathan MacKinnon (team co-leading 13 goals) and captain Gabriel Landeskog (13 goals, league high-tying plus-13 rating). Rantanen capped a three-point performance on Sunday by scoring a power-play goal with 1.3 seconds remaining in overtime as the Avalanche improved to 3-0-1 in their last four games with a 4-3 win at Anaheim.

TV: 10:30 p.m. ET, Altitude (Colorado), FS West (Los Angeles)

ABOUT THE AVALANCHE (10-6-4): Rantanan also set up a pair of goals on Sunday to boost his point total to eight (three goals, five assists) in his last four games while MacKinnon notched his fifth three-point performance of the season to give him 11 points (five goals, six assists) in his past seven. "You just had the feeling that with some of the chances that they were able to create, that they would be difference makers," Bednar said of the celebrated top line. Tyson Barrie set up MacKinnon's second-period goal versus the Ducks, pushing his point streak to five games (one goal, five assists) while giving him 203 career assists -- four shy of John-Michael Liles' franchise record for a defenseman.

ABOUT THE KINGS (7-12-1): Petersen's first career shutout came on the same night that fellow rookie Matt Luff secured a milestone of his own. Playing in his sixth game since being recalled from Ontario of the American Hockey League, the 21-year-old Luff converted a sweet saucer pass from Adrian Kempe and lifted a shot past Jake Allen for his first NHL goal with just over eight minutes remaining in the second period. "I just kind of blacked out and shot my shot and it went in," Luff said.

                    OVERTIME

                    1. Colorado G Philipp Grubauer has recorded at least one point in six consecutive outings (4-0-2).

                    2. The Kings won all three encounters against the Avalanche last season.

                    3. Colorado C Alexander Kerfoot will play in his 100th game on Wednesday.

                    PREDICTION: Avalanche 5, Kings 1

I have to support PETE'S PLAY CALL here. Has been travelling solidly and has among the top speed in the race for today's distance. The Equibase Speed Figure of 105 from his last contest looks competitive in here. Shows solid Equibase Speed Figures on average overall when compared with the rest of this group. KILLYBEGS CAPTAIN - Ran a strong last race. Very strong choice to take this race going in a dirt sprint. AJNADEEN - Has been running soundly lately and should be up near the front end early on. Very good jockey and trainer combo winning 25 percent of their races working together.

WHY NOT ANNIE - A thoroughbred coming back this quickly after a strong effort is a good sign. This filly garnered a strong fig of 57 in her last race. That speed rating should be strong enough to prove victorious this time out. 36-42-57 are last three speed ratings. Improving each time out is something she should do again right here. ROCKSTAR PRINCESS - This filly is in excellent form right now. Finished third in the last race and comes back promptly. The improved speed ratings over the last three races is great. Bourne drops her in this race fit and ready to go. WIND AND STORM - Possibly a peak effort for this filly today. Been getting closer with each recent start. Rode this horse on Nov 9th and Batista is right back in the irons in this race.

GORGEOUS ROAD - Don't think this questionable contender has what it takes to cross the finish line in first this time out. STERLING FURIOSA - The fourth place finish in the last affair was not the best. I KNOW NOTHING - Doesn't seem to have enough positive aspects to support the price.

                                # 4 NOT ABOUT THE NAIL 8/1

                                # 1 SAIGON TIMES 4/1

                                # 3 BEACH PRINCESS 3/1

My selection for this race is NOT ABOUT THE NAIL especially at a long price. Has the appearance of a profitable bet. Has garnered strong speed figures in dirt route races in the past. Shows solid Equibase Speed Figures on average overall when matched with the rest of this field. SAIGON TIMES - Looks very strong to be close to the lead at the first call. Has to be carefully examined - I like the numbers from the last outing. BEACH PRINCESS - Vaunts formidable speed figures on average overall when put alongside the rest of this group. Could best this group based on the speed rating - 71 - of her last race.
