5-Unit Play. Take #524 George Mason (-5.5) over James Madison (7 p.m., Friday, Dec. 7)
George Mason has been one of the country's biggest underachievers so far this year. The bar wasn't set incredibly high for a team that went 16-17 last season. But they brought their top seven players back and 20 wins should've been in their grasp. They took an overseas trip this summer and they should've been ready to rock. However, two brutal losses in their first two games - by one point to a very good Penn team (ask Miami) and in OT against a solid American team - put them behind the eight-ball. Since then they haven't had any bad losses. And seven of their 10 games this year have come against Top 185 teams. Now they get a home game against an in-state rival. The Patriots beat Madison on the road last year in a bizarre come-from-behind win. That victory actually made Mason 21-2 SU in the last 23 meetings and 17-6 ATS. Madison is off their own wild win over a good Radford team, coming from behind for a seven-point home win. They shot out of their goddamn minds, though, going 12-for-22 from 3-point range and hitting nearly 50 percent from the field overall. I don't see that happening again. Mason needs this win. They need something positive to get themselves going. If they can contain Stuckey Mosley then the Patriots should ride the home court advantage to a big second half and a double-digit win.
