You think this team wants to lose here to Fordaham after beating them last year and as they look to avoid losing 3 straight. You get an angry Rutgers team that rolls into here, regardless of the fact that Fordham has revenge, this is a game that Rutgers has to win to avoid losing 3 straight - teams who lose to Fordham cannot go to the NCAA Tournament. This is a top 20 defensive team, top 100 in 3 point field goals and has beat other similar teams outside the top 200 by about 12-14 points. We like Rutgers to be motivated and focused to get it done today.

15 DIME play on BYU against Utah in a game played in Salt Lake City. The Cougars are -4 at 3:05 am pacific.


They can call this the Beehive Classic, but it's the Holy War to everyone else and I'll back the Cougars, who snapped a three-game slide with a 95-80 blowout of Utah State a couple of nights back, a game where they jumkped out to a 53-34 first-half lead. Yoeli Childs led the way with a second straight 31-point performance as he also added seven rebounds and five steals while TJ Hawks chipped in with 20 points and seven assists. The game also marked the return of Nick Emery from a 1 1/2-year absence as he contributed 11 points (hitting 3-of-4 triples) in 19 minutes.


Utah, meanwhile, is coming off a 69-64 victory over Tulsa that was gift-wrapped courtesy of the Golden Hurricane missing its first 18 three-pointers.


BYU is the better offensive team, especially with the return of Emery, who brings gives the Cougars some sorely needed outside shooting, and the Cougars were already the better rebounding team as they're currently sixth in the nation on the defensive glass (31.8 per game).


BYU is on a 12-4 series roll after snapping a three-game slump with last year's 77-65 win in Provo.

This championship fight will definitely be in the conversation for Fight Of The Year, as both of these dominating fighters are in their prime and exude what elite level mixed martial arts represents.

Max Holloway is a well rounded fighter who continues improving his ground game, while Brian Ortega is an elite level grappler and has significantly improved his striking fight after fight. It's been impressive to see Ortega's striking evolve, as last fight he fought Frankie Edgar who'd never been knocked out, and Ortega KO'ed Frankie in round 1. Prior to that, T-City submitted Cub Swanson and Renato Moicano who are both tough top level opponents.

Max Holloway is on an incredible 12 fight wining streak, only losing to Conor McGregor way back in 2013. Max is coming off back to back wins over UFC legend Jose Aldo and defeating Anthony Pettis prior to that. It's been a spectacular run for Max "Blessed" Holloway, but it's been a dreadful 2018 for the defending champion. Due to various medical issues he's pulled out of 3 straight fights. Some have pointed to his body failing him during grueling weight cuts making the featherweight limit. Most notably, Max pulled out due to an unknown illness that hospitalized the champ. This "mystery illness" is concerning in such a demanding combat sport, a definite red flag.
Now moving forward to breaking them down stylistically...

Max is a high volume striker pushing the pace with quick combinations moving forward throughout a fight. Time after time that's been his path to victory, but in this situation that'll put him right into the lethal hands of Ortega. Max leans heavy on his front foot seeking opportunities to work from mid range, but Ortega is capable of confusing opponents worrying about his sensational ground game, and now execuing his striking flawlessly. I believe Ortega's striking is still very underated and strategically working a game plan against him is a tough puzzle. The forward pressure Max is accustomed to gives Ortega another path to victory. Add in the fact that T-City doesn't necessarily need to takedown opponents to finish a fight, leave your neck or arm out inside the clintch and it'll be game over. Ortega is creative when seeking submissions and worrying about that over a 5 round fight will put the champion out of position to defend Ortega's striking and submission game.
This Saturday night I see a new featherweight champion ... Brian Ortega.
