CHARGERS at PATRIOTS
Take: CHARGERS +4
My projection on this game is Patriots -3. So on a neutral field I have the Chargers as the better team. And I really do think they are indeed the better team.
But I would also be remiss if I did not mention that I have serious misgivings about whether the Chargers can win at Foxboro. Let’s call it straight, this has not been a good big game team. Even last week in the win at Baltimore, the Chargers squandered early chances to blow the game wide open. Had the Ravens been able to execute at all, and had John Harbaugh not made at least a couple of questionable coaching decisions that backfired, it’s entirely possible Baltimore might have rallied to win the game.
And that’s the concern here. If the Chargers again fail to take advantage of their opportunities, they are not beating the Patriots. No team is better under the spotlight than the Pats. I can definitely envision a scenario where the Chargers let this get away late.
So why the opinion on the Chargers? Easy answer. My game projections have been mostly spot on, and while there’s not nearly enough value to warrant a play, I’ve got New England by 3 and the line is 4. So I’ll make the free play the Chargers, but proceed with caution if you happen to agree.
