Orlando Magic vs. Detroit Pistons Preview and Predictions 2019-01-16

NBA Predictions 15th January 2019 by Gracenote
              by Gracenote on 01/15/2019

The Orlando Magic are one of the more inconsistent teams in the league but are capable of looking like a playoff contender when operating at the top of their game. The Magic will try to keep playing well and earn a third consecutive win when they visit the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday.

Orlando looked ready to fade into the bottom of the Eastern Conference after dropping four straight and finishing 1-5 on a six-game road trip but wins over the Boston Celtics and the Houston Rockets at home over the weekend changed the outlook. "The feeling that we have now compared to two days ago, it's not even close, but that's the way this league is with so many games in a short amount of time," Magic center Nikola Vucevic told reporters. "Things can turn around quickly. That's why you cannot ever get too high or too low. We knew that we had it in us." The Pistons need things to turn around quickly after suffering their 17th loss in the last 22 games with a 100-94 setback at the Utah Jazz on Monday. "We just have to be better, I have to be better," Detroit forward Blake Griffin told reporters after the loss. "A couple turnovers, a couple bad possessions, you can't afford those things against a team like this. We just have to be a little sharper, but I like the way we came in and competed and fought tonight."

TV: 7 p.m. ET, FS Florida (Orlando), FS Detroit

ABOUT THE MAGIC (19-24): Shooting guard Evan Fournier scored 19 points on 6-of-11 shooting and harassed Rockets superstar James Harden into a 1-of-17 performance from 3-point range in the 116-109 triumph. "It feels good, man, really, really good," Fournier told reporters. "It means a lot to have two wins against two really good teams. It feels good to be back home. How do we respond from this will be the question?" Vucevic continued his quiet All-Star campaign with 22 points, nine rebounds and six assists against Houston and he is averaging 20.1 points and 11.9 boards while shooting 52.6 percent from the floor.
ABOUT THE PISTONS (18-24): Monday's loss capped a 1-3 road trip but was not without positive moments as Detroit scored 59 points in the first half and had a chance down the stretch. "I love the way our guys competed," Pistons coach Dwane Casey told reporters. "We had some bonehead plays in the third quarter. I thought we played excellent basketball in the first half. Then again, we had some situations where we have to make better decisions on our self. Again, that's the style of play we want to play." Griffin scored a team-high 19 points in the loss after springing for 44 in a 109-104 win over the Los Angeles Clippers on Saturday.

              BUZZER BEATERS

              1. Magic rookie C Mo Bamba (foot) sat out the last three games and is questionable for Wednesday.

              2. Detroit PG Ish Smith (groin) returned from a 19-game absence on Monday and scored eight points in 19 minutes off the bench.

              3. The teams split the first two meetings - both in Orlando - with the Magic earning a 109-107 victory in the most recent matchup on Dec. 30.

              PREDICTION: Pistons 108, Magic 103

Milwaukee Bucks vs. Memphis Grizzlies Preview and Predictions 2019-01-16

NBA Predictions 16th January 2019 by Gracenote
                by Gracenote on 01/16/2019

The Milwaukee Bucks sit a season-best 19 games above .500 and look to increase that number when they visit the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday. Milwaukee rolled to a 124-86 home triumph over Miami on Tuesday to notch its NBA-leading 22nd victory by double digits this season.

Star forward Giannis Antetokounmpo was needed for just 25 minutes in the one-sided contest against Miami but recorded 12 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists for his fourth triple-double of the season. "He's got such great court vision, he draws such a crowd and he gets us so many good looks," Milwaukee coach Mike Budenholzer told reporters during his postgame press conference. "All year, he's done a great job balancing scoring and facilitating." Memphis has lost eight of its last nine games and 15 of 19 after committing a season-worst 24 turnovers in Monday's 112-94 setback at Houston. "You turn the ball over 24 times, those are just empty possessions," Grizzlies coach J.B. Bickerstaff told reporters after the contest. "And (when) you're playing a team that has this type of firepower, you can't waste possessions."

TV: 8 p.m. ET, FS Wisconsin (Milwaukee), FS Southeast (Memphis)

ABOUT THE BUCKS (31-12): Milwaukee outscored the Heat 63-40 over the middle two quarters to turn Tuesday's game into a runaway, and that allowed Budenholzer to get his starters plenty of rest with a late-night plane flight to Memphis looming. "We've had some games where we've taken care of business on the front end that have helped us in the back-to-back," Budenholzer said of the benefits of the large margin of victory. Eric Bledsoe scored a team-best 17 points against the Heat and also made two steals for his sixth straight contest with multiple thefts.

ABOUT THE GRIZZLIES (19-24): Marc Gasol was limited to just 25 minutes and scored only five points against the Rockets as he struggled with lost feeling in his right hand after taking a shot to his elbow. "I lost feeling in my shooting hand and couldn't get it back," Gasol told reporters. "It was hard to play effectively without feeling. I tried playing more with my left hand and pass more with my left hand, but even just dribble the ball on the ground, I got no feel back from my hand." Gasol has failed to reach double digits in points in three of his last five games.

                BUZZER BEATERS

                1. Gasol scored 29 points as the Grizzlies posted a 116-113 road win over the Bucks on Nov. 14.

                2. Milwaukee SG Malcolm Brogdon recorded 16 points against the Heat and has reached double digits in each of his last 13 appearances.

                3. Memphis SG Garrett Temple made four 3-pointers against Houston, marking his fifth performance with four or more this season.

                PREDICTION: Bucks 110, Grizzlies 105

Brooklyn Nets vs. Houston Rockets Preview and Predictions 2019-01-16

NBA Predictions 15th January 2019 by Gracenote
                  by Gracenote on 01/15/2019

The Houston Rockets could have been excused for suffering a letdown in the wake of news that center Clint Capela would miss a month or more due to a broken thumb, but superstar James Harden was not having any of that. Harden will look to continue his historic run and lead the shorthanded Rockets to another victory when they host the Brooklyn Nets on Wednesday.

Harden needed one half to make history on Monday, pouring in 36 points in the first 24 minutes to reach 30 for the 17th straight game, and finished with 57 points in a 112-96 triumph over the Memphis Grizzlies. "What he just did, we kind of take it for granted a little bit," Houston coach Mike D'Antoni told reporters. "It's like, 'Oh, look at that, isn't that cute? It's 57!' I mean, on dead legs and he played 43 minutes last night. It's beyond impressive. It's rare that people can do what he's done, if anybody." Harden and company will face another challenge in the surging Brooklyn Nets, who are on the verge of a .500 record and are in playoff contention in the East after several down seasons. "We're playing games that mean something," Brooklyn coach Kenny Atkinson told reporters. That's exciting for our development and our confidence. These guys think they can do something special."

TV: 8 p.m. ET, YES (Brooklyn), AT&T SportsNet Southwest (Houston)

ABOUT THE NETS (22-23): Brooklyn earned a 109-102 win over the Boston Celtics on Monday, snapping a 10-game losing streak against their division rivals. The win was sparked by another strong performance from point guard D'Angelo Russell, who scored 34 points and is averaging 27 over the last three contests. "There's no fear," Atkinson told reporters of Russell. "He believes in himself. He's got tremendous, tremendous confidence. With guys out, we've given him a little more of a green light. We need him to be aggressive. He and I have talked about it. We need him to keep doing that."

ABOUT THE ROCKETS (25-18): Harden's string of 30-point games is the most since Wilt Chamberlain reached the mark in 20 straight in 1964 and moved him past Kobe Bryant (16 straight in 2003) and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (16 in 1972). Houston, which is already without guards Chris Paul (hamstring) and Eric Gordon (knee) learned the extent of Capela's injury on Monday, and Harden was there to give the team a boost. "I don't know if it was an emotional lift," Harden told reporters. "I know that we had to win the game. I know we let one slip away last night, and it was another opportunity for us to win tonight. I don't know if it was an emotional lift, but I know it's crunch time in the sense that we've got three starters out and guys have got to pick up the slack. There's no excuse."

                  BUZZER BEATERS

                  1. Rockets PG Brandon Knight (knee) sat out the last two games and is day-to-day.

                  2. Nets SF Rondae Hollis-Jefferson (groin) sat out the last seven games but could return Wednesday.

                  3. Houston took the last five in the series, including a 119-111 win at Brooklyn on Nov. 2.

                  PREDICTION: Rockets 116, Nets 105

Toronto Raptors vs. Boston Celtics Preview and Predictions 2019-01-16

NBA Predictions 15th January 2019 by Gracenote
                    by Gracenote on 01/15/2019

The Boston Celtics were swept on a three-game road trip through Miami, Orlando and Brooklyn and return home with questions about the team's consistency and cohesiveness. Ready to take advantage of the Celtics' struggles are the Eastern Conference-leading Toronto Raptors, who visit Boston on Wednesday.

Celtics star Kyrie Irving suggested after the loss to Orlando that perhaps the team was struggling under the weight of higher expectations and it looked like he was right for over three quarters on Monday until the team found a spark and turned a 27-point deficit into a 109-102 loss to the Nets. Boston will get a chance to figure things out at home with seven of the next eight games in its own arena, where they already own one win over Toronto this season. The Raptors, who dropped a 123-116 overtime decision at the Celtics on Nov. 16, brought their latest winning streak to five straight by outlasting the Washington Wizards 140-138 in double-overtime on Sunday. Star forward Kawhi Leonard collected 41 points and 11 rebounds in the victory and the team earned two full days of rest after asking each starter to log 41 minutes or more.

TV: 8 p.m. ET, ESPN, TSN (Toronto), NBCS Boston

ABOUT THE RAPTORS (33-12): Leonard was named the Eastern Conference's Player of the Week on Monday after averaging 30.7 points and 8.7 rebounds in three wins, capped by Sunday's star turn. "Kawhi really led us, took over the game," point guard Kyle Lowry told reporters. "Some unbelievable rebounding, strongman stuff. He did some strongman stuff." Lowry picked up his own double-double with 12 points and 11 assists against the Wizards but was 4-of-15 from the floor and is shooting 28.6 percent from 3-point range over the last four games.

ABOUT THE CELTICS (25-18): Irving sat out Monday to rest a sore quadriceps muscle but was in his teammates' ears after the game, imploring them to find that gear they closed the game with and sustain it. "(If) we play (full) out the whole game we'll be pretty tough to beat," Boston forward Jayson Tatum told reporters of Irving's message. "It's tough being down 27 and trying to make a comeback in this league. Guys are just too good. It can happen, but it's very rare. So, we've got to start out the gate like that and not dig a hole for ourselves." Tatum finished with a team-high 34 points on 12-of-19 shooting while Jaylen Brown sprang for 22 points in the loss.

                    BUZZER BEATERS

                    1. Celtics G Marcus Smart (illness) sat out Monday and is day-to-day.

                    2. Toronto PG Fred VanVleet missed Sunday's win with a thigh contusion and is questionable for Wednesday.

                    3. The home team took each of the last nine in the series.

                    PREDICTION: Raptors 118, Celtics 109

San Antonio Spurs vs. Dallas Mavericks Preview and Predictions 2019-01-16

NBA Predictions 15th January 2019 by Gracenote
                      by Gracenote on 01/15/2019

The San Antonio Spurs look to defeat Dallas for the 13th time in the past 15 meetings when they visit the Mavericks on Wednesday. San Antonio was on a roll with 14 victories in 18 games before suffering back-to-back double-digit setbacks to the Oklahoma City Thunder and Charlotte Hornets.

The Spurs dropped a 108-93 decision to the visiting Hornets on Monday when they had no answers on how to defend Kemba Walker, who made seven 3-pointers while scoring 33 points. "We were a step behind the whole first half," guard Derrick White told reporters afterward. "Personally, I felt like that was my worst defensive performance all season." The Mavericks are coming off a 119-114 home loss to the Golden State Warriors that represents their 14th loss in the past 19 games. Standout rookie forward Luka Doncic scored 26 points and is averaging 28 points over the past four games.

TV: 8:30 p.m. ET, FS Southwest (San Antonio, Dallas)

ABOUT THE SPURS (25-20): Small forward Rudy Gay (wrist) is hopeful of playing against the Mavericks after missing the past five contests. Gay received a cortisone injection over the weekend and was hoisting shots on Monday and feeling considerably better in the healing process. "I just have to let it calm down now, but (the wrist is) getting better and better," Gay told reporters while also saying he has been wearing a "nice little brace" to help provide support.

ABOUT THE MAVERICKS (20-23): Point guard Dennis Smith Jr. (back) could miss his fourth straight game since he began experiencing soreness during a game against the Los Angeles Lakers on Jan. 7. The 21-year-old Smith joked about it Monday -- "that's what happens with old age. Father Time is undefeated," he said -- but coach Rick Carlisle is concerned that the back occasionally acts up on Smith. "He's had some back tightness from time to time," Carlisle told reporters. "Part of it might be his body makeup, the fact that he is so put together. But he's doing better and we're hoping that he can be back at practice this week."

                      BUZZER BEATERS

                      1. SG DeMar DeRozan had 34 points and nine assists as the Spurs notched a 113-108 home overtime win against the Mavericks on Oct. 29.

                      2. San Antonio SG Marco Belinelli (knee) sat out against the Hornets and is listed as day-to-day.

                      3. Dallas G J.J. Barea (Achilles tendon) underwent season-ending surgery on Monday.

                      PREDICTION: Spurs 108, Mavericks 104

Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Portland Trail Blazers Preview and Predictions 2019-01-16

NBA Predictions 15th January 2019 by Gracenote
                        by Gracenote on 01/15/2019

The Cleveland Cavaliers snapped a 12-game slide with a 101-95 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday while showing some spark at the defensive end. The Cavaliers' suspect defense will face another strong challenge when they try to make it two straight wins while visiting the Portland Trail Blazers on Wednesday.

Cleveland surrendered 140 or more points in back-to-back games before going into Los Angeles and holding the LeBron James-less Lakers to 39.6 percent from the floor. "It feels good to get off the streak," Cavaliers coach Larry Drew told reporters. "Anytime you go through a stretch like this it can be a little tough on you. I know for the players physically and mentally. I just want to see our guys grow. I want to see growth every game we play. We're not going to play well every game, we're not going to shoot the ball well every game, but from a mistake standpoint I would like to see us grow past where we are making the same mistake over again." The Trail Blazers dropped both ends of a road back-to-back at Denver and Sacramento in the last two games but took the last four at home. "We put ourselves in a tough position, especially on the road against a team who plays really well at home, especially in the second half," Portland point guard Damian Lillard told reporters after the 115-107 loss to the Kings on Monday. "It's not what we wanted, but we knew it was a possibility to go 2-0 or go 0-2, and we dropped both. So, we have to make sure we take care of the next one."

TV: 10 p.m. ET, FS Ohio (Cleveland), NBCS Northwest (Portland)

ABOUT THE CAVALIERS (9-35): Cleveland surrendered at least 123 points in four straight games and 111 or more in eight straight before getting things together on Sunday. "We just have to trust each other and when we talk, I think everything is easier for us like it was today," small forward Cedi Osman told reporters after the win. "Defensively we were getting screened up, but we were talking to each other, so we knew what was going on. I think because of that our job was much, much easier defensively." Osman, whose individual defense is one of the team's big question marks, led the way with 20 points offensively on Sunday while adding eight rebounds and two steals.

ABOUT THE TRAIL BLAZERS (26-19): Lillard led the way with 35 points on Monday but committed six turnovers and missed eight of his 12 tries from beyond the arc. "It was just one of those games," Lillard told reporters. "We weren't sharp passing the ball and some of it we dropped passes and playing in crowds. We knew coming in that they love to play in transition. Our goal was to come in and to make them take the ball out of the net as many times as possible. We kind of played into their hands. We turned the ball over and allowed them to get out in transition." Fellow guard CJ McCollum had a had time finding the basket as well and finished 2-of-14 from the floor en route to a season-low six points.

                        BUZZER BEATERS

                        1. Cavaliers SG Alec Burks grabbed a season-high 13 rebounds on Sunday.

                        2. Portland SF Maurice Harkless (knee) sat out the last four games and is day-to-day.

                        3. The home team took the last nine in the series.

PREDICTION: Trail Blazers 125, Cavaliers 109

Utah Jazz vs. LA Clippers Preview and Predictions 2019-01-16

NBA Predictions 15th January 2019 by Gracenote
                          by Gracenote on 01/15/2019

The Utah Jazz look to extend their season-best winning streak to five games when they visit the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday. The contest in Los Angeles is the only one on the road in a nine-game stretch for Utah, which just completed a 4-0 homestand.

Jazz star shooting guard Donovan Mitchell continued his strong play with 28 points in Monday's 100-94 win over the Detroit Pistons and he is averaging 30 points over the past six contests. "Right now they're not overly pretty, but we're finding ways to win," Utah swingman Kyle Korver told reporters after his team prevailed despite shooting just 38.8 percent. "That's what good teams do. Different guys stepped up and we patched together a win." The Clippers fell 121-117 to the New Orleans Pelicans on Monday and are 0-2 on a four-game homestand and have lost three straight overall. Los Angeles forward Danilo Gallinari has scored 20 or more points in six of the past eight games after recording 25 against the Pelicans and he is averaging 20.3 points during the stretch.

TV: 10:30 p.m. ET, AT&T SportsNet Rocky Mountain (Utah), Prime Ticket (Los Angeles)

ABOUT THE JAZZ (24-21): Center Rudy Gobert matched his career best of 25 rebounds against the Pistons and also contributed 18 points and two blocked shots. "Rudy was all over the boards and made it really hard for everybody," Utah coach Quin Snyder told reporters afterward. "He's playing the right way." Mitchell will handle the bulk of the point-guard duties for the fourth straight game with starter Ricky Rubio (hamstring) and reserves Dante Exum (ankle) and Raul Neto (groin) all sidelined.

ABOUT THE CLIPPERS (24-19): Los Angeles trailed by as many as 20 points in the second half before narrowing the gap but power forward Montrezl Harrell was disappointed that the team was trailing New Orleans by such a large margin. "We just gotta stop putting ourselves in these holes," Harrell told reporters after scoring 26 points. "Yeah, we do a great job of coming back and fighting and getting back into it, but we're running out of gas. We're using so much energy and we're doing so much fighting to put ourselves just within three (or) five." Harrell exceeded 20 points in three of the past four games and is averaging 21.5 points during the span.

                          BUZZER BEATERS

                          1. The Jazz averaged 122.7 points while winning the past three meetings with the Clippers after losing 19 of the previous 21 matchups.

                          2. Los Angeles G Lou Williams scored 18 points against the Pelicans and topped 15 points in 11 straight games while averaging 22.5 during the stretch.

                          3. Utah SF Joe Ingles (ankle) was injured during the win over Detroit but is expected to be available on Wednesday.

                          PREDICTION: Clippers 113, Jazz 110

The Golden State Warriors look to post their 22nd win in the last 24 meetings when they host the New Orleans Pelicans on Wednesday. Stephen Curry scored 37 points as Golden State continued its dominance over the Pelicans with a 131-121 home victory on Oct. 31.

The Warriors set an NBA record with a 51-point quarter during a 142-111 whipping of host Denver on Tuesday that moved them into first place in the Western Conference. "Ball movement, defensive intensity and the hunger to redeem ourselves from last time we played here when we lost," shooting guard Klay Thompson said of the assault during a postgame television interview. "That's great. I didn't know that is a record. That's impressive." The Pelicans posted a 121-117 road win over the Los Angeles Clippers on Monday and have won four of their last five games heading into visits against the Warriors and Portland Trail Blazers on Friday. "We need to stay calm, have composure, play like we've been in the situation before, which we have," New Orleans point guard Jrue Holiday told reporters. "Last year we were pretty good at it. This year, we've got to take it a game at a time."

TV: 10:30 p.m. ET, ESPN, FS New Orleans, NBCS Bay Area (Golden State)

ABOUT THE PELICANS (21-23): Anthony Davis had another monster game with 46 points and 16 rebounds against the Clippers for his 14th consecutive double-double. Davis, who has scored at least 30 points in four straight contests and eight of his last 11, received stellar help from Julius Randle (27 points) in the victory over Los Angeles. "It doesn't matter who's guarding me. I just try to make the best of (every opportunity) and try to help the team win," Davis told reporters. "Me and Julius, we both know that we're good post players, and we were able to score a lot in the post. No matter who guards us, we just try to be dominant in the paint."

ABOUT THE WARRIORS (30-14): Curry and Thompson each scored 31 points and combined for 13 3-pointers (eight by Curry) while overtaking the Nuggets for the top spot in the West with their fifth straight win as they reminded opponents how they can explode at any time. "It's hard to do this every night for 82 games," Thompson said after Golden State went 21-for-39 from 3-point range. "When it happens, it feels great. Obviously, there's not going to be record-setting quarters every night, but it shows you what we're capable of when we're hitting on all cylinders. It's beautiful to watch and more fun to be a part of." Kevin Durant scored 27 points on 11-of-15 shooting against the Nuggets to stretch his streak of 20-point efforts to 17.

                            BUZZER BEATERS

                            1. The Pelicans halted their 10-game losing streak in Oakland with a 126-120 victory over the Warriors on April 7.

                            2. Golden State C DeMarcus Cousins (Achilles) is expected to make his season debut on Friday against the Clippers.

                            3. Holiday has reached double digits in scoring in 15 straight games, recording at least 20 points in 10 of the contests.

                            PREDICTION: Warriors 133, Pelicans 121

Colorado Avalanche vs. Ottawa Senators Preview and Predictions 2019-01-16

The Ottawa Senators are buried in last place in the Eastern Conference but could be getting a pair of key pieces back in the lineup for Wednesday night's game against the visiting Colorado Avalanche. All-Star defenseman Thomas Chabot and center Matt Duchene are expected to play for Ottawa, which will try to end a string of five consecutive losses at home.

The Senators are 2-8-1 over their last 11 games, posting both wins on their just-concluded three-game road trip through California. Chabot has been sidelined for the past eight games due to an upper-body injury while Duchene, acquired from Colorado in November 2017, missed the West Coast trip to be with his wife for the birth of their child. The Avalanche enter the final stop of a five-game road trip off a 6-3 win at Toronto that ended a three-game slide and was only their second victory in 11 games (2-7-2). "I think we played pretty good from the start," Colorado forward Carl Soderberg said after notching his first career hat trick. "Glad we could get the win here tonight."

TV: 7 p.m. ET, Altitude (Colorado), TVAS, Sportsnet (Ottawa)

ABOUT THE AVALANCHE (21-17-8): While Colorado rallied from an early two-goal deficit against Toronto thanks to a pair of goals from its high-powered No. 1 line, coach Jared Bednar loved what he saw from the newly reconfigured unit of Soderberg flanked by J.T. Compher and Colin Wilson. Soderberg had collected only two goals and two assists in his previous 16 games prior to Tuesday's eruption. "He had a great game, all around, both sides of the puck," Bednar said of Soderberg. "I just thought he was in the right spot all night long. I was really happy with how that line played."

ABOUT THE SENATORS (17-24-5): Duchene, who spent eight-plus seasons with the Avalanche, was on a tear prior to his hiatus, scoring in three consecutive games and collecting six goals in his past eight. Ottawa went 2-5-1 in the absence of Chabot, who was second in scoring among NHL defensemen with 38 points when he was injured on Dec. 28. "He brings that element where you can transition, have the puck more often, you're attacking more often, you're less in your zone because you've got the puck and that's what a guy like Chabot does," Senators coach Guy Boucher said. "He's going to be a top-end guy."

                              OVERTIME

                              1. Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog has four goals and seven points in his last five games.

                              2. Senators G Craig Anderson, out the past eight games with a concussion, could be back this weekend.

                              3. Colorado leading scorer Mikko Rantanen has 45 points over the past 30 games.

                              PREDICTION: Avalanche 4, Senators 3

The Boston Bruins have experienced a bit of turbulence after winning five straight, taking some stiff shots from upper-echelon members of the Eastern Conference en route to losing two of their last three. The Bruins will look to return to their winning ways on Wednesday when they visit the team residing one point out of the conference's cellar: the Philadelphia Flyers.

Boston was felled by the home-run swing of Jeff Petry, as the defenseman made like Mookie Betts and swatted the puck out of mid-air and into the net to give Montreal a 3-2 victory in overtime on Monday. Tuukka Rask's first loss in his last six starts foiled his bid to tie Tiny Thompson (252) for the franchise record in wins, and the 2014 Vezina Trophy recipient will see backup Jaroslav Halak get the call on Wednesday before having another go at it the following night against St. Louis. James van Riemsdyk highlighted his three-game goal-scoring streak with his fourth career hat trick in Monday's 7-4 triumph over Minnesota while fellow forward Nolan Patrick completed a personal-best four-point performance by tallying twice to put an end to a 24-game goal drought. "It weighs on you quite a bit," the 20-year-old Patrick said. "It's something you think about quite a bit when you go through a slump like that."

TV: 7:30 p.m. ET, NBC Sports Network

ABOUT THE BRUINS (26-15-5): Patrice Bergeron joined fellow top-line forward Brad Marchand (club-best 32 assists) with receiving a maintenance day at Tuesday's practice, but coach Bruce Cassidy told reporters that the two will suit up versus Philadelphia. The 33-year-old Bergeron has collected 13 points (five goals, eight assists) in 11 contests since a 16-game absence due to a rib injury and has flustered the Flyers to the tune of recording 33 (14 goals, 19 assists) in 45 career contests -- including a goal in a 4-3 overtime loss on April 1. Cassidy expressed optimism about the availability of forwards Chris Wagner (illness) and Jake DeBrusk (lower body) to face Philadelphia after the pair sat out Tuesday's session.

ABOUT THE FLYERS (17-23-6): Wayne Simmonds, who is the subject of persistent trade rumors and is an unrestricted free agent after this season, upped his value a bit by scoring twice and posting a campaign-best plus-3 rating on Monday. Captain Claude Giroux set up a pair of goals against the Wild to reside within one assist of 500 in his career. The 31-year-old All-Star scored two goals and set up another in three meetings with the Bruins last season, boosting his total to 26 points (nine goals, 17 assists) in 26 career encounters.

                                OVERTIME

                                1. Philadelphia has permitted the first goal in 22 of its last 29 games.

                                2. Boston reached out to Providence of the American Hockey League on Tuesday and recalled F Peter Cehlarik, who leads the team with 29 points.

                                3. The Flyers placed Dale Weise on waivers Tuesday while Edmonton claimed fellow F Colby Cave from the Bruins.

                                PREDICTION: Bruins 4, Flyers 1
