The NBA trade deadline takes place today at 3:00 p.m. ET and handicapping the card on this day is never easy, especially with 12 teams in action. I’d tread lightly with early wagers, knowing that anything can happen throughout the day. Let’s handicap the card.

East hosts West

Minnesota (25-28 SU, 26-27 ATS) at Orlando (22-32 SU, 27-26-1 ATS): The Timberwolves blasted the Magic 120-103 on Jan. 4 as four-point home favorites and the ‘over’ (214) connected. Including that win, Minnesota has won four of the last five against the Orlando and the high side has cashed in all of the victories. The T-Wolves have gone both 10-7 SU and 10-7 ATS versus the Eastern Conference this season, which includes a 4-3 SU and 5-2 ATS record on the road. The ‘over’ has cashed in nine straight games vs. the East for Minnesota.

This is a tough spot for Orlando, who is coming off a 132-122 loss at Oklahoma City on Tuesday as a nine-point road underdog. After this game, they had back on the road for three more games. The Magic have won two straight at home and against solid opponents (Pacers, Nets) as well but they have haven’t fared well in non-conference games this season (6-17 SU, 9-14 ATS). At home, the club has gone 3-7 both SU and ATS while the ‘over’ is 7-3.

Orlando opened as a one-point favorite and was quickly pushed to -2. As a home favorite, the Magic are just 6-6 this season, 5-7 ATS and that includes the two recent wins mentioned above versus Indiana and Brooklyn.

L.A. Clippers (30-25 SU, 29-25-1 ATS) at Indiana (35-19 SU, 26-27-1 ATS): Tough game to handicap as the Clippers were involved in a trade on Wednesday morning, which sent Tobias Harris and a couple reserves to Philadelphia. L.A. improved to 2-1 on its current six-game road trip this past Tuesday with a 117-115 win at Charlotte as a three-point road underdog. Including that win, the Clippers have gone 11-8 both SU and ATS versus the East. Make a note that Los Angeles has gone 7-3 both SU and ATS on the road in non-conference games but the absence of Harris changes everything.

After dropping its first four games without Victor Oladipo, the Pacers have won rebounded with three straight wins. Indiana has gone 10-9 SU and 9-10 ATS this season versus the Western Conference and that includes a 6-4 both SU and ATS mark at home. One of those wins came on Tuesday, a 136-94 blowout decision over the L.A. Lakers.

This will be the first meeting between the pair this season. Indiana has won and covered four straight games in this series. The Pacers opened as four-point home favorites and now sit at -6 as of late this morning.

Pending Domination?

Barring any major trades, these games will likely have the largest spreads on Thursday and we could be looking at easy ‘chalk’ winners if recent head-to-head history holds.

Toronto (39-16 SU, 24-30-1 ATS) at Atlanta (18-35 SU, 24-29 ATS): The Raptors have won six straight against the Hawks and they’ve covered five of those games. The pair met in Canada on Jan. 8 and Atlanta put forth a great effort but still fell to Toronto 104-101 as a 13 ½-point road underdog. The ‘under’ has gone 5-1 in the last six encounters. The Raptors as 10-point road favorites but the early money moved the line to Atlanta +9. The Hawks are coming off a solid road trip (4-3 SU, 4-3 ATS) but the first game back at home is never easy and they’ve been better away this season than at home (8-113 SU, 7-14 ATS).

Memphis (22-33 SU, 24-30-1 ATS) at Oklahoma City (34-19 SU, 30-23 ATS): The Thunder have captured seven straight and nine of their last 10 meetings with the Grizzlies. Oklahoma City has gone 7-3 ATS during this span. Total bettors should note that the ‘over’ is on a 9-2 run in this series. Memphis is expected to be short-handed with center Marc Gasol resting and possibly other players involved in trades. The Thunder have gone 5-3 SU and 3-5 ATS when listed as a double-digit home favorite this season.

TNT Action

L.A. Lakers (27-27 SU, 23-29-2 ATS) at Boston (35-19 SU, 27-26-1 ATS): Both of these teams have been featured in trade speculation for the past week, more so the Lakers and their hopes of acquiring Anthony Davis from the Pelicans. Los Angeles was embarrassed 136-94 at Indiana on Tuesday and is now 1-2 since LeBron James returned to action and they currently sit on the outside of the playoffs.

While the Lakers aren’t connecting, Boston has quietly won five straight and 10 of its last 11 games. The Celtics have gone 5-5-1 ATS during this run. At TD Garden, Boston has gone 17-3 SU and 14-6 ATS in its last 20 at home and the offense is averaging 119 points per game during this span, which has helped the ‘over’ go 13-7.

Boston opened -7 ½ and the number was pushed to -9. The assumption is that the Lakers will likely pull off a major deal and be short-handed for this game.

The Celtics (10-9 SU, 8-11 ATS) versus the West, 5-3 SU and 4-4 ATS at home. While Boston has been pedestrian in non-conference matchups, L.A. has been awful for bettors versus the East, going 8-9 SU and 4-12-1 ATS. Outside of the Staples Center, the Lakers have gone 3-4 SU and 2-5 ATS.

Boston owns a 4-1 record in the last five games of this series, but Los Angeles has gone 3-2 ATS during this span while the ‘under’ is 4-1 during this span.

This game is set to tip at 8:05 p.m. ET nationally on TNT.

San Antonio (32-23 SU, 31-23-1 ATS) at Portland (32-21 SU, 29-24 ATS): The “Rodeo Road Trip” for the Spurs hasn’t started out well as the team was blasted by the Kings on Monday (127-112) before getting hammered 141-102 at Golden State last night. Even though the Spurs are facing a back-to-back spot on Thursday, they shouldn’t be too fatigued as they rested DeMar DeRozan and LaMarcus Aldridge in last night’s loss. After dropping its first six games of the season on no rest, San Antonio has won its last three games in this situation but two of them took place at home. The ‘over’ has gone 8-1 for the Spurs on no rest this season.

Portland is coming off a rare 118-108 home loss on Tuesday to Miami, which dropped their record to 22-8 SU and 19-11 ATS at the Moda Center. Prior to that setback, the Trail Blazers had won eight straight (7-1 ATS) at home. Make a note that Portland hasn’t lost two straight at home this season and the early money moved the Blazers from 4 to 5 ½-point favorites for this game.

Sticking with the home theme, the host has won and covered the last three meetings in this series, which includes both matchups this season and all three were decided by double digits. Portland captured a 121-108 win at the Moda Center on Oct. 20 before San Antonio avenged that loss with a 131-118 victory on Dec. 2.

Total bettors should note that the ‘over’ is on an 8-2 run in this series and that includes four straight tickets to the high side.

Houston (-2, 129 ½) at UCF – 7:00 PM EST – CBSSN

Two teams sit tied atop the American Athletic Conference at 8-1 as both teams hit the road on Thursday night. Cincinnati travels to Memphis, while Houston (21-1 SU, 14-7-1 ATS) heads to Orlando to square off with the third-place squad in the conference, UCF (16-4 SU, 10-9-1 ATS).

The Cougars picked up their sixth consecutive win last Thursday in a revenge spot by beating Temple, 73-66. Houston avenged its only loss of the season which came at Temple in early January, but the Cougars failed to cash in the second matchup as 9 ½-point home favorites. Corey Davis, Jr. led the Cougars with 24 points, as Houston overcame 4-of-18 shooting from three-point range and 13 missed free throws.

The Knights rebounded from an ugly 77-57 defeat at Memphis on January 27 to slip past UConn last Thursday, 73-67. UCF built a 12-point halftime edge, but the Huskies rallied back to get within the number and pick up the narrow cover as seven-point road ‘dogs. B.J. Taylor paced the Knights with 21 points, as UCF outscored UConn, 25-10 from the charity stripe.

Houston has put together a solid 5-1 SU/ATS mark on the road this season, while UCF has failed to cover the spread in five of the past six games with the only ATS win coming against last-place Tulane. Last season, the Cougars captured two matchups with the Knights, including a 69-65 victory in Orlando. The second meeting took place in the AAC tournament as Houston crushed UCF, 84-56 as nine-point favorites.

Washington (-1, 134) at Arizona – 9:00 PM EST – ESPN2

In spite of owning a 9-0 conference record and an 11-game winning streak, Washington (18-4 SU, 13-8-1 ATS) is on the outside looking in as far as the Top 25 polls go. The unranked Huskies have won and covered all nine Pac-12 games this season, including pulling off a sweep of the Los Angeles squads. Washington cruised past USC last Wednesday, 75-62, while knocking off UCLA last Saturday, 69-55 as the Huskies have cashed the UNDER in four of the past five games.

The Huskies head to the desert this week for a pair of contests, starting with a trip to Tucson to face Arizona (14-8 SU, 10-11-1 ATS). The Wildcats put together an impressive 4-0 start in conference play, but UA has gone backwards of late by losing four of the past five games, including three straight contests on the road. The most recent setback came in last Thursday’s 95-88 overtime loss at Arizona State as 5 ½-point underdogs, marking the second straight season that Arizona has lost three consecutive games.

Washington and Arizona met only once last season as the Huskies edged the Wildcats in Seattle, 78-75 as seven-point underdogs. The Wildcats have captured each of the past four meetings with UW in Tucson, as the Huskies were listed as a double-digit underdog in each of those contests. Since getting blown out at Auburn in early November, Washington has covered in each of its past five true road games, including a perfect 4-0 mark in the Pac-12.

Iowa at Indiana (-1 ½, 147) – 9:00 PM EST – ESPN

Both these teams are coming off impressive underdog victories this past weekend as each club tries to build off those upsets. Iowa (17-5 SU, 11-11 ATS) forged above the .500 mark in Big 10 play by cruising past Michigan as five-point home underdogs last Friday, 74-59. Not only did the Hawkeyes snap a two-game skid, but they limited the Wolverines to 32% shooting from the floor to hand Michigan its second loss of the season.

Indiana (13-9 SU, 8-13 ATS) wishes it snapped only a two-game losing streak as the Hoosiers erased a seven-game slide on Saturday in a 79-75 overtime stunner over Michigan State as 13 ½-point underdogs. The Hoosiers overcame 39% shooting from the floor to pick up their first conference road win since December at Penn State. Archie Miller’s team improved to 3-8 ATS in Big 10 play, but the Hoosiers are 0-4 ATS in Bloomington against conference foes, which is in stark contrast to a 9-0 ATS mark last season.

Last season, Indiana swept the two-game series from Iowa, including a 13-point triumph at Assembly Hall. Iowa’s last victory at Indiana came in 2015, as the Hoosiers have grabbed five of the past six meetings. The Hawkeyes have hit the OVER in four of five road conference affairs, while allowing at least 82 points four times. The Hoosiers haven’t eclipsed the 73-point mark at home in four Big 10 contests, while drilling the UNDER all four times.

West Coast Conference Nuggets

The game of the night in the conference involves Gonzaga and San Francisco hooking up from Spokane. The Bulldogs (8-0 WCC) are riding a 12-game winning streak, which includes a 96-83 victory at USF as nine-point favorites in mid-January. Gonzaga has failed to cash in its last two opportunities as a home favorite in wins against Loyola-Marymount and San Diego. The Dons (5-3 WCC) play their third consecutive road contest after slipping up at San Diego and St. Mary’s. USF owns an 0-4 ATS record on the road inside the WCC, while losing its last three in the underdog role.

Santa Clara and Pepperdine are in the middle of the conference standings heading into Thursday’s action. The Broncos (4-5 WCC) held off the Waves (4-5 WCC) in their first matchup last month, 67-64 as 1 ½-point home favorites to improve to 5-1 in the last six meetings with Pepperdine. The Cougars (6-3 WCC) sit in second place in the league behind Gonzaga, although BYU has alternated wins and losses in each of its last five games. BYU cruised past Portland in its first meeting in Provo last month, 79-56 as 17-point favorites, the fourth straight win and cover in the series as double-digit chalk. The Pilots last won a game on December 21 against Florida A&M, while owning a 1-3 ATS mark at home inside the WCC.

The third WCC game of the night involving a double-digit line takes place in the Bay Area between St. Mary’s and Pacific. The Gaels (5-3 WCC) snapped a two-game skid by holding off San Francisco, 86-80 to narrowly cover as 5 ½-point home favorites last Saturday. The Tigers (3-6 WCC) are seeking back-to-back conference wins for the first time after downing Pepperdine last Saturday, while Pacific is 0-3 SU/ATS as a road underdog in league play.

Philly Cheese Stakes
The Philadelphia Flyers continues to rack up victories and they're showing no signs of letting up. The goaltending duo of Carter Hart and Anthony Stolarz have stepped up, and the offense is providing more than enough support. Philadelphia hockey is fun again, and the Flyers are no joke. They'll look to make it nine in a row against the Los Angeles Kings on Thursday night. The Kings have won a pair of road games on this trip, but they're still just 5-11 in the past 16 games as a favorite and 3-8 in the past 11 against Eastern Conference foes. For Philly, they have won just once in the past seven on home ice against the Kings, and the road team is 12-3 in the past 15 in this series.

Leaking Oil
The Edmonton Oilers fired their coach a few weeks ago, but there hasn't been much of a change in results. The Oilers are 0-4-2 over the past six games, and they'll look to stop the leaking in St. Paul on Thursday night against the Minnesota Wild. The Oilers have confirmed goaltender Cam Talbot will be in between the pipes, and he has been a train wreck this season, letting in more than three goals per outing. Edmonton has won just six of their past 19 on the road, and they're 5-16 in the past 21 as an underdog. They're also playing in a 4-in-6 (fourth game in six days) situation, and they're 7-18 in the fourth game in the past 25 tries.

Looking Ahead

Thursday, Feb. 7

Carolina at Buffalo: The Hurricanes pay old pal Jeff Skinner a visit in his new digs, and Carolina is projected to start Curtis McElhinney in between the pipes. He posted his first shutout of the season, and ninth of his career, in Tuesday's 4-0 road win in Pittsburgh. Speaking of goose eggs, the Hurricanes are 7-0 in their past seven meetings against the Sabres, too. Buffalo would certainly like to turn that ugly number around. Carolina is also 11-5 in the past 16 games overall, while Buffalo is just 4-12 in the past 16 against the Eastern Conference and 0-7 in their past seven trying to follow up a straight-up win.

San Jose at Calgary: The Sharks skate into Calgary looking to extinguish the Flames. San Jose has won six of their past seven against Western Conference foes, so this will be a big test for the homestanding Flames. The Sharks are also 6-1 in the past seven against teams with a winning overall record. Calgary has won six of the past seven at the Saddledome, and they're 20-8 in the past 28 games overall while cashing in 21 of the past 27 as a favorite. San Jose has won six of the past seven in this series, but the favorite is 8-2 in the past 10 meetings and the home team has also cashed in eight of the past 10 in this series. The over is also 3-1-1 in the past five battles in Calgary.

Friday, Feb. 8

Carolina at N.Y. Rangers: The Hurricanes hit the New York Thruway after Thursday's game (OK, they're probably flying) to battle the Rangers in MSG in the only game on the slate for Friday. Carolina will be playing the third game of a 3-in-4 (three games in four days) situation, and they're a perfect 6-0 in the third outing. While that's certainly a favorable trend, the Canes are a dismal 5-25-1 in their past 31 battles against the Rangers in Madison Square Garden, and the home team has hit in 16 of the past 21 overall. New York has won just four of their past 14 games at home, however.

Saturday, Feb. 9

Nashville at St. Louis: The Predators and Blues hook up for the first time since they played a home-and-home back on Nov. 21-23. The home team has defended their ice in both matchup, with the Blues winning 6-2 in the most recent battle as a slight home 'dog. While the last battle in this series went 'over', the 'under' has dominated lately. The under is 8-3-2 in the past 13 in this series, including 4-1-1 in the past six meetings on the banks of the Mighty Mississippi...the ol' Miss...the Old Man...deeeeeeep River. The home team has also cashed in each of the past four in this series.

Pittsburgh at Tampa Bay: The Penguins hit the road for the Suncoast to battle the Lightning, and this could be a potential Eastern Conference playoff preview. The last time these teams met, Vegas set the line at 6 1/2. The Penguins came away with a 4-2 victory as the 'under' hit. That wouldn't be a big deal, normally, but that under snapped a 14-0 over streak in this series dating back to Nov. 29, 2014. The Lightning have won six of the past seven at home against the Penguins.

Calgary at Vancouver: The Canucks will look to snuff out the Flames, but that's easier said than done lately. Of course, Vancouver has won two of three against Calgary so far this season, including a 3-2 overtime win on Saddledome ice last time these two hooked up. The over has connected in six of the past seven meetings in this series since the start of the 2017-18 season, too. The road team is actually 5-2 in the past seven in this series, so that bodes well for the high-octane Flames.

Sunday, Feb. 10

Tampa Bay at Florida: The Lightning and Panthers hook up in the Sunshine State Battle, and plenty of goals are sure to follow. The 'over' has connected in six of the past seven meetings in this series since the start of the 2017-18 NHL campaign. Florida has had surprising success against Tampa, going 5-1-1 in their past seven at the BB&T Center in Sunrise against the Lightning since the start of the 2015-16 season. However, Tampa Bay has won five straight in this series, and seven of the past eight overall.
