Sunday’s top betting action in college basketball is all over the map coast to coast. Getting things started in the Big Ten is an early afternoon Midwest showdown between Ohio State and No. 11 Michigan State.

Moving to the East Coast in a late-afternoon tip in the Big East, No. 13 Villanova will be on the road against St. Johns. Closing out Sunday’s action on the West Coast, Arizona squares off against Colorado in a Pac-12 tilt in Boulder.

Ohio State Buckeyes at No. 11 Michigan State Spartans (CBS, 1:00 p.m. ET)

Opening Odds: Michigan State -12, Total 137 ½

Betting Matchup

The Buckeyes slipped back under .500 in Big Ten play at 6-7 straight-up with Thursday’s 63-56 loss to Illinois as eight-point home favorites. This snapped a SU three-game winning streak that included a big road win against Indiana as 2 ½-point underdogs last Sunday.

Ohio State is 16-8 SU overall with a 10-14 record against the spread. The total has stayed UNDER in seven of its last 10 games. Sophomore forward Kaleb Wesson leads the Buckeyes in scoring with 14.5 points per game.

Michigan State is tied with Michigan at the top of the conference standings at 11-3 as part of a SU record of 20-5. Following a three-game skid both SU and ATS, the Spartans have won their last two outings including a big 67-59 road win against Wisconsin on Tuesday as two-point favorites.

The total has stayed UNDER in eight of their last 10 games. Cassius Winston had the hot hand against the Badgers on Tuesday with 23 points. The junior guard leads the team with 18.8 PPG.

Betting Matchup

The Wildcats are 11-1 SU in Big East play with a tenuous one-game lead over Marquette for the regular season title. They bounced back from a tight one-point road loss to the Golden Eagles last Saturday with Wednesday’s 85-67 romp over Providence as 10 ½-point favorites at home.

Villanova (20-5 SU, 17-8 ATS) has covered the closing number in eight of its last nine games. Eric Paschall scored 25 points in Wednesday’s win and senior guard Phil Booth added 22 points as the Wildcats’ leading scorer (18.5 PPG) this season.

St. Johns was on the wrong end of a 76-71 loss to Villanova in early January, but it covered the 6 ½ points on the road. Tuesday’s 77-73 home win in overtime against Butler ended as a PUSH. The total went OVER 146 points in that win after staying UNDER in seven of the Red Storm’s previous nine contests. They are 18-7 SU overall with a 10-13-2 record ATS. This includes a 5-8-1 mark ATS at home.

Mustapha Heron put up a season-high 28 points on Tuesday night with junior guard Shamorie Ponds (20.5 PPG) adding 14 points to the winning effort.

The Wildcats’ current SU losing streak reached six games with Thursday’s 83-76 setback against Utah as 3 ½-point road underdogs. They have failed to cover in all six of those defeats.

Arizona started Pac-12 play this season with a 64-56 loss to Colorado as a 6 ½-point home favorite and it has been a struggle ever since at 5-7 SU in the conference standings. The Wildcats are 3-4-1 ATS on the road and 1-6-1 ATS closing as underdogs.

Colorado extended its current winning streak both SU and ATS to four games by beating Arizona State 77-73 on Wednesday as a slight 1 ½-point favorite at home. The Buffaloes improved to an even 6-6 (SU and ATS) in conference play.

They are 15-9 SU on the year with an even 12-12 record ATS. Colorado is 9-2 SU and 7-4 ATS at home. Sophomore McKinley Wright IV has led the way in scoring this season with 13.5 PPG and he has combined for 44 points in his last two starts.

The best players in the NBA get together on Sunday in Charlotte for the annual All-Star Game and for the second straight year the leading vote-getter from each conference got to serve as captain and pick his squad. Team Giannis, led by Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo will serve as host against Team LeBron, led by Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James.

James is a captain for the second consecutive season and loaded his squad with three of the top five scorers in the NBA, including leading scorer James Harden (36.6 points), disgruntled New Orleans Pelicans forward Anthony Davis (28.1) and free agent to-be Kevin Durant (27.6) of the Golden State Warriors. Antetokounmpo, who ranks seventh in scoring at an average of 27.2 points, grabbed No. 2 scorer Paul George (28.7) of the Oklahoma City Thunder and unofficial All-Star host Stephen Curry (28.6) of the Golden State Warriors, who grew up in the Charlotte area while his father, Dell, played for the Hornets. "I'm extremely excited," Curry told the Undefeated. "All-Star Weekend in general is usually fun. ... Every city has something unique to offer. I know Kemba (Walker) is hosting in Charlotte. He'll be playing for the Hornets and whatnot, but unofficially it's like a little mini homecoming where I get all the sights and sounds and familiar faces." Walker, who sits 12th in the NBA in scoring at 24.9 points per game, will start alongside Curry in the backcourt for Team Giannis as the lone All-Star representative from the Hornets.

ABOUT TEAM LEBRON: James, who is trying to build a winner in Los Angeles, stacked his team with players who can become free agents after the season, including Warriors shooting guard Klay Thompson, former Cleveland Cavaliers teammate and current Boston Celtics point guard Kyrie Irving and Toronto Raptors forward Kawhi Leonard. James' team will bring four-time All-Star point guard Damian Lillard off the bench along with Washington Wizards guard Bradley Beal, 76ers point guard Ben Simmons, Spurs power forward LaMarcus Aldridge and Minnesota Timberwolves center Karl-Anthony Towns. Joining the team as a special selection by commissioner Adam Silver and making his 13th All-Star appearance is James' friend and former teammate Dwyane Wade, who is set to retire at the end of the season.

ABOUT TEAM GIANNIS: Antetokounmpo picked Philadelphia center Joel Embiid to round out his starting five and is stacked in the frontcourt with Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokic, Orlando Magic center Nikola Vucevic and Detroit Pistons forward Blake Griffin all coming off the bench. Jokic and Vucevic are making their All-Star debuts along with Antetokounmpo's Bucks teammate Khris Middleton and Brooklyn Nets guard D'Angelo Russell, who was named as an injury replacement for Indiana Pacers guard Victor Oladipo (knee). Point guards Kyle Lowry of Toronto and former MVP Russell Westbrook of Oklahoma City come off the bench for Team Giannis along with future Hall of Famer Dirk Nowitzki, who was named as a special pick by Silver along with Wade.

The Pittsburgh Penguins are battling to stay among the top eight teams in the Eastern Conference, primarily due to their ordinary record at home and a tendency to give up goals in bunches. The Penguins struggled in both areas during a 5-4 home loss to Calgary but will look to bounce back a day later as they host the New York Rangers on Sunday afternoon.

Pittsburgh surrendered four second-period goals in Saturday's setback to diminish a few highlights, including Phil Kessel becoming the 17th American-born player to reach 800 points. Defenseman Justin Schultz also returned to the lineup after a 53-game absence due to a fractured leg and "was terrific," Penguins coach Mike Sullivan told reporters. "You can see the impact he has." New York is in 12th place in the East - nine points behind the Penguins - but has made strides with an 8-5-1 stretch that has followed a tailspin during which it won only five of 21 games (5-11-5). "You have to bring your best every game," Rangers goaltender Alexandar Georgiev, who made 31 saves in Friday's 6-2 romp in Buffalo, told reporters. "No matter what happened in (your) last game, that's not important."

ABOUT THE RANGERS (25-24-8): Vladislav Namestnikov, who had been kept off the scoresheet for 10 straight games and limited to two assists in his last 23 contests, broke out of his slump by scoring two goals and setting up another in the win over Buffalo. "I'm really happy for Vladdy, because I think he's played two great games (on the road trip)," coach David Quinn told reporters. "I think that Winnipeg game, he had some great chances. ... He's doing all these other things well that it's good to see him get rewarded." Mika Zibanejad is on a tear with 13 goals and six assists over his last 12 contests despite being shut down by the Sabres.

ABOUT THE PENGUINS (30-21-7): Evgeni Malkin was slumping before he missed six of the team's first seven games this month due to injury and a suspension, but he returned Saturday and recorded a three-point performance that included a pair of third-period goals. Malkin's presence particularly was notable on the powe play as Pittsburgh scored three man-advantage goals after going 1-for-21 over its previous 10 contests. "I thought after we got the first power-play goal, I think they got a lot of confidence off of that," Sullivan said. "They had much more composure with the puck. They were the power play that we always expect from them."

OVERTIME

1. Penguins captain Sidney Crosby recorded a goal and an assist in a 7-2 rout of New York on Jan. 2, giving him 84 points in 63 career meetings.

What once was a firm hold on a playoff spot in the Western Conference has turned into a scrum for the Minnesota Wild, who stumbled coming out of the All-Star break and have been unable to regain their equilibrium. The Wild, losers of three straight contests and seven of eight, now must face one of the league's hottest teams when they host the St. Louis Blues on Sunday afternoon.

Minnesota opened its four-game homestand by giving up an early two-goal lead in a 5-4 loss to Philadelphia before falling in overtime to New Jersey by the same score after allowing four unanswered tallies. "We get them down and you don't get that killer instinct and you stop playing and you try to defend all the time," Wild coach Bruce Boudreau told reporters. "It's a losing way to play." The white-hot Blues are one triumph shy of the franchise record after posting their ninth consecutive win with a 3-0 victory at Colorado on Saturday. St. Louis dropped its first two meetings with the Wild this season - both at home - but carry a seven-game road winning streak into Sunday's matchup.

ABOUT THE BLUES (30-22-5): Vladimir Tarasenko has registered 10 goals and nine assists during his career-best 11-game point streak after notching one of each in Saturday's victory. Tarasenko's seventh tally in five contests was all the offensive support needed by Jake Allen, who followed rookie Jordan Binnington's shutout on Thursday by turning aside all 32 shots he faced against the Avalanche. Binnington, who is 11-1-1 with a 1.69 goals-against average, is expected to be back in the crease on Sunday and has a chance to make history when he vies for his eighth straight victory, which would set a franchise record for a rookie netminder.

ABOUT THE WILD (27-25-6): Beleaguered goaltender Devan Dubnyk gave up all 10 goals in his last two starts - including a misplay that led to the game-winner on Friday - to draw the ire of Boudreau, who did not mince words when assessing his performance. "They weren't good goals. Duby will be the first one to tell you," Boudreau said. "He's too good a goalie to be allowing that and having his confidence shaken this much. I don't know what to say." Although Boudreau declined to name a starter for Sunday's contest, Dubnyk yielded a total of three goals in beating St. Louis twice this season and has won five consecutive meetings.
