Take Florida State over North Carolina (3:45 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 23)
I'm looking to do it again this weekend with another 7-Unit Play on Saturday. I'll also be tracking this ACC battle on Saturday and I think that the Seminoles can bang the Heels for a bit in this one. North Carolina has their monster showdown with Duke on Wednesday. They could be dealing with a hangover from that one when FSU comes to town. The Seminoles have been on fire. They have won seven straight and, frankly, other than an OT win over Louisville on Feb. 9 none of those wins have been even close. This team was really beat up early in conference play. Now that they are healthy they are nasty. They have size, experience and talent. And right now they are one of the most underrated teams in the ACC. I absolutely think that this team will make this one a game and that they will be able to hang with the Tar Heels and make this number stand up.

Seton Hall at St. John's 8:00 ET
Red Storm (-) over Pirates- Home team is 16-5 ATS in the last 21 meetings between these two but Seton Hall 10-4 ATS in their last 14 road games. St. John's could not handle prosperity as they were manhandled by Providence as expected on Wednesday. The Red Storm have 19 wins and would love to reach 20 tonight but are a disappointing 5-8 ATS at home. Seton Hall had won four straight before falling to Xavier 70-69 and have dropped three of their last four to the Storm. Take SETON HALL!

Saturday comp play comes in the AAF, as I take the big number with the Express of Memphis in their game at Orlando against the Apollos.

So, two games are in the books in the new AAF league, and what can we glean from the season thus far?

Well, we know that the Ol' Ball Coach - Steve Spurrier still has coaching chops, as his team the Orlando Apollos as they have scored 77 points in getting off to a 2-0 start both straight up and against the spread. They blew out Atlanta in Week One, but needed a late pick-six to seal last week's 37-29 win at San Antonio, as that pick-six also covered the road impost.

Now, Orlando will play their home opener, and while that is normally a "buy sign" in any new league, let's all keep in mind that the Apollos - because of Florida state law for workers compensation - have had to practice in Georgia which has necessitated them to stay at a hotel in Jacksonville, and bus about 30 minutes to the Georgia state line to hold their practices!

That's a bit of an effort just to get some practice time in, and that to me is reason enough to grab the points with the Express.

Yes, Memphis has dropped both of their games, but I am going to give coach Mike Singletary the play here in Week 3, as he can coach up a defense, and I will bank on that fact clicking tonight.

The Express could not score in their season opener, but were able to post 18 last week against Arizona - who was favored by about the same amount of points the Apollos are tonight - as they did stay inside of the huge impost last weekend.

I will count on Memphis to not get blown out tonight.

Take the points and the Express.

          2* MEMPHIS

Talk about a BIG 20th win of the season, Maryland's one-point win earlier this week at Iowa definitely qualifies, as it was head coach Mark Turgeon's first win with the Terps over a ranked team on the road since arriving at College Park 7 years ago. Now the question is, can this talented, big, young Maryland team avoid a letdown today at home against an Ohio State team that is scrambling for some resume-building wins before the conference tournament starts?

I believe they can avoid the flat-spot today, as Maryland's next game is a road game at Penn State, so no potential "sandwich" game here today, and the Terps have already had their way - in a big way - once this season against Ohio State. The Terrapins dominated the Buckeyes, 75-61 in Columbus in a game they outrebounded the Bucks, 32-26.

A similar final score today would not be any surprise, as Ohio State has really struggled down the stretch run of the season in finding consistent offense. State has scored no more than 63 points in a game in any of their last 4, and they have been held to 67 points or less in 7 of their last 10 overall. Not surprisingly, they are just 5-5 straight up in those 10 - the first Maryland meeting included.

Maryland has won 13 of their 15 home games this year, and the last time they were out home they won by double-digits over Purdue. The home game before that, a double-digit home win over Northwestern, and the time before that a home win and cover over Wisconsin. As you can see these Terrapins know how to close the sale on their home floor.

The Terps average 4 boards per game more than the Bucks, and they big bodies of Smith and Fernando are as dangerous a twosome in the paint as any in the nation.

This is a big number to lay against a team that is desperate for a win, but from what I have seen from this Buckeyes team, they could well see a 6-7 minute stretch where they score maybe a field goal tops and fall behind big. I can easily see a 12-2 Terps run that puts this game in the rear-view mirror.

I will lay the wood with Maryland here.

            3* MARYLAND

Comp play for Saturday will be for the generous double-digits the Cowboys are getting to work in their game against the Wildcats.

Oklahoma State notched their best win in quite some time when they upended TCU in Stillwater on Monday night. That win snapped a 5 game losing streak that included a 75-57 home loss to Kansas State at Gallagher-Iba Arena.

Sure, the Pokes don't have enough pop to pull the massive upset over the conference leader, but then again, the conference leader does have a trip on tap for Monday night to Lawrence to play their in-state nemesis, the Kansas Jayhawks that you can be sure is on both the players and Bruce Weber's minds.

K-State has gone just 4-8 against the spread in their home games on line this year, and with star Dean Wade having had a few stints watching from the bench with injury, I would think that Weber is not likely to risk any of his starters getting injured before Monday's big showdown against Kansas.

At 10-16, it has been a season of rebuilding for Oklahoma State. The Cowboys have been on the wrong side of the win/loss ledger against the Wildcats in each of the last 3 meetings, and that streak is going to rise to 4 in a row for sure when these 40 minutes are played, but with Kansas State peeking ahead to Monday, look for the Cowboys to stay inside of this roomy impost.

Take Oklahoma State on Saturday afternoon as your comp play.

My free play for tonight is on the San Francisco Dons on the road against the Santa Clara Broncos.

I just gave you the Dons outright over BYU in Provo two nights back, as I promised you they'd be aiming for the outright win.

As I told you, I think San Fran is for real, and could be a threat down the stretch and into the postseason tournament in Las Vegas.

And to follow the win over BYU, the Dons need to continue the momentum considering the No. 2 seed would keep them on the opposite side of the West Coast Conference tournament bracket from Gonzaga. The first and second seeds get byes all the way to the semifinals in the tournament.

The Dons have been playing well all season, enjoying their best start through 25 games since the 1981-82 season, as they're 21-6 overall and 9-4 in league play. Much of it is because of their balanced play on both sides, as they score 75.9 points per game and allow just 66.3 points per game.

That balance will outlast the Broncos, who have lost six of 10 and seven of 10 at the window ahen hosting Frisco.

                Lay the road chalk.
