Milwaukee Bucks vs. Detroit Pistons Preview and Predictions 04-22-2019 in NBA

Blake Griffin made his Detroit Pistons playoff debut in Game 3 on Saturday, but it didn't make much difference in the final result. The Pistons will try to avoid being swept in the best-of-seven Eastern Conference series when they host the top-seeded Milwaukee Bucks in Game 4 on Monday.

The Bucks breezed to double-digit wins at home in the first two games of the series and refused to take their foot off the gas on the road, cruising out to a 22-point lead through three quarters and finishing with a 119-103 victory. "We might be the No. 1 seed and the best team in the NBA, but at the end of the day we haven't won a playoff series in a while and we're hungry," Milwaukee superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo told reporters. "I think everybody's hungry. It starts from our coach. It starts from the leader setting the tone. We're just going to keep fighting, we're going to keep playing hard and try to win as many games as possible." The Pistons shot 38.5 percent from the floor in the loss and failed to capitalize on the emotion with Griffin returning and the fans in the arena on their side. "We made some uncharacteristic mistakes," Detroit coach Dwane Casey told reporters. "That's what the playoffs are about - getting through that, understanding time-score-situation. We had situations where we'd make a mistake or miss a shot, now we go down to the defensive end and not carry out our assignments."

TV: 8 p.m. ET, TNT, FS Detroit

ABOUT THE BUCKS: Milwaukee only got 14 points on 5-of-13 shooting in 28 minutes from Antetokounmpo in Game 3 but still breezed with seven scorers in double figures. "They can't sleep on anyone," center Brook Lopez, who scored 19 points and blocks five shots on Saturday, told reporters. "Our depth is a huge boon for us, it's a huge bonus we have. We just got to keep going to that. We've been putting trust in a lot of different people all season long and guys have been showing why we've been doing that." Khris Middleton scored a team-high 20 points while Ersan Ilyasova broke out with 15 points off the bench.

ABOUT THE PISTONS: Center Andre Drummond shot 53.3 percent from the field in the regular season but stumbled to 5-of-14 in Game 3. "He missed some tough ones," Griffin told reporters of Drummond. "He might have just rushed a few here and there. We've leaned on the big fella all season long and he's a big reason why we're in the playoffs. It's the playoffs. It's basketball. It'll happen to me. It'll happen to everybody on the other team. It'll happen to everybody on our team at some point. As teammates, we're there to pick each other up and help guys out." Griffin played with a brace on his left knee and logged 31 minutes but struggled to keep pace in transition.

    BUZZER BEATERS

    1. The Pistons are enduring a 13-game postseason losing streak.

    2. Milwaukee PF Nikola Mirotic went 3-of-5 from 3-point range on Saturday after struggling to 0-of-6 in the first two games.

    3. Detroit SG Luke Kennard averaged 20 points in the first two games but was held to nine in Game 3.

    PREDICTION: Bucks 122, Pistons 107

Houston Rockets vs. Utah Jazz Preview and Predictions 04-22-2019 in NBA

The Utah Jazz did about as well as any team can possibly do defensively against James Harden in Game 3 and still couldn't come away with a victory. The Jazz will try to avoid a four-game sweep of the Western Conference series when they host Harden and the fourth-seeded Houston Rockets in Game 4 on Monday.

Harden missed his first 15 field-goal attempts and finished 3-of-20 from the floor but came through with a pair of 3-pointers in the fourth quarter and had no trouble getting to the free-throw line while finishing with 22 points in the 104-101 victory. "Keep shooting, keep being aggressive," Harden told reporters. "0-of-15, 14-of-15, 15-of-15, my job is to go out there and produce and be aggressive and in attack mode. Nothing changes. ... I didn't shoot the ball well, and we still won. Guys stepped up major tonight, and that's what we're going to need." Utah only held a slim advantage for most of the first three quarters despite Harden's off night and realize it missed an opportunity. "We didn't capitalize as much as we needed to, especially during a stretch there in the third quarter where I thought we had a chance to build a little bit of a lead," Jazz coach Quin Snyder told reporters. "We got some looks that we had to take, and they didn't fall."

TV: 10:30 p.m. ET, TNT, AT&T SportsNet Southwest (Houston), AT&T SportsNet Rocky Mountain (Utah)

ABOUT THE ROCKETS: Chris Paul scored 18 points, Clint Capela recorded a double-double with 11 points and 14 rebounds and P.J. Tucker scored the last of his 12 points at the free-throw line to seal the win on Saturday. Harden scored 14 of his 22 points in the fourth quarter and added 10 assists and six steals in the victory. "They played him tough, there's no doubt about it," Houston coach Mike D'Antoni told reporters of Harden. "They got into him, and they did what they were supposed to do, but James normally figures that stuff out anyway. So, he just didn't have a great night - and it happens."

ABOUT THE JAZZ: Utah star guard Donovan Mitchell scored a series-high 34 points in Game 3 but missed a wide-open look at a 3-pointer that would have tied the game with under 10 seconds left and missed five of his 17 free-throw attempts. "We had the right mindset and were aggressive, but we've got to capitalize," Mitchell told reporters. "You can't give a team like this multiple opportunities. I wouldn't say it all came down to (missed free throws), but it definitely would've helped." Jazz center Rudy Gobert turned in his best defensive performance of the series in the Game 3 loss, blocking seven shots after managing a total of one block in the first two contests.

      BUZZER BEATERS

      1. Jazz SF Joe Ingles is 4-of-17 from 3-point range in the series.

      2. Houston hasn't swept a playoff series since taking three straight from the Minnesota Timberwolves in the first round of the 1997 postseason.

      3. Utah PF Jae Crowder made his first start of the series in Game 3 and finished with five points in 24 minutes.

      PREDICTION: Jazz 106, Rockets 98

Washington Capitals vs. Carolina Hurricanes Preview and Predictions 04-22-2019 in NHL

The Washington Capitals answered consecutive defeats at PNC Arena with a resounding victory at home to once again wrest away control of their Eastern Conference first-round series. The Capitals return to Raleigh (N.C.) aiming to eliminate the upstart Carolina Hurricanes on Monday when the Metropolitan Division rivals play Game 6 of their series.

"Obviously, I thought that was a pretty great response (after losing Games 3 and 4). We weren't satisfied with the games in Carolina," forward Nicklas Backstrom said after his four-point performance (two goals, two assists) powered Washington to a 6-0 romp in Game 5 on Saturday. The 31-year-old Swede matched last season's entire playoff goal total with five in this series and has nine in his last 10 games overall. While Backstrom and the Capitals might be inclined to reflect fondly on Saturday's game, the same isn't true for a Carolina club that has zero margin for error in its first playoff series since 2009. "Park it. It stunk," Hurricanes captain Justin Williams said. "There's ups and downs, a lot of momentum swings in playoff series, and we've got to swing it back in our direction in Game 6."

TV: 7 p.m. ET, NBC Sports Network, TVAS, FS Carolinas, NBCS Washington

ABOUT THE CAPITALS: Although captain Alex Ovechkin collected one goal and two assists in Game 5, he also made an impact on Saturday's game by stepping up his physical play with a season-high 11 hits. Devante Smith-Pelly, who is known for his physicality, finished with a plus-1 rating and one shot on goal in 10:43 of ice time during his first game since being recalled from Hershey of the American Hockey League. "Everyone did good job on the forecheck, making their (defensemen) turn and making it hard for them to get out on breakouts, so got to keep doing that if we're going to be successful," the 26-year-old Smith-Pelly said.

ABOUT THE HURRICANES: Rookie Andrei Svechnikov hopes to draw back in the lineup after sitting out the last two contests following his ill-fated fight with Ovechkin in the first period of Game 3. "I always recover so quickly, and we'll see. I hope I'm going to play next game," said the 19-year-old Russian, who may get his wish after Carolina assigned fellow forward Aleksi Saarella to Charlotte of the American Hockey League on Sunday morning. The Hurricanes' power play could benefit from some conditioning, as it went 0-for-5 in Game 5 and showed so little in terms of potential that Jordan Staal labeled it "garbage" while Williams told reporters that the team "stunk it up" with the man advantage.

        OVERTIME

        1. Carolina G Petr Mrazek looks to rebound from a diastrous six-goal performance when he returns to Raleigh, where he has turned aside 48 of 49 shots in the series.

        2. Washington RW T.J. Oshie is out indefinitely after undergoing surgery on his broken collarbone, the team announced Sunday.

        3. Hurricanes D Jaccob Slavin recorded five assists in his previous three contests before the team was shut out in Game 5.

        PREDICTION: Capitals 4, Hurricanes 1

Nashville Predators vs. Dallas Stars Preview and Predictions 04-22-2019 in NHL

The top team in each conference already has been ushered out of the opening round of the playoffs and the No. 2 seed in the West is trying to avoid a similar fate in its first-round series. The Central Division champion Nashville Predators are wobbly after suffering back-to-back losses and need a victory in Game 6 at the Dallas Stars on Monday night to stave off elimination.

The Predators have won three times in Dallas this season, including a 3-2 victory in Game 3, but they have been burned for 10 goals in the past two defeats. "We've played a lot of playoff games, we've been put in these situations and positions before," Nashville coach Peter Laviolette said after Saturday's 5-3 setback at home. "They've answered the bell, they'll answer the bell in Game 6 and we'll bring it back here - but this group's got to go and do it." The Stars, in the playoffs for only the third time in 11 seasons, have scored at least five goals in consecutive games for the first time this season. "I think we keep getting better, and we have to keep getting better," Dallas coach Jim Montgomery said. "The next one's the hardest one because it's the potential to end someone's season. That's the challenge in front of us now."

TV: 8:30 p.m. ET, CNBC, Sportsnet1, TVAS2, FS Tennessee (Nashville), FS Southwest (Dallas)

ABOUT THE PREDATORS: The good news for Nashville: Rocco Grimaldi, despite being a Game 1 scratch, has scored in three of his four games. The bad news: The 5-foot-6 Grimaldi leads the team in goals while the No. 1 line of Filip Forsberg, Ryan Johansen and Viktor Arvidsson has combined for four points in the series after amassing 76 goals during the regular season -- including a team-high 34 by Arvidsson, who has been held off the scoresheet by Dallas. "The bottom line is we're not playing good enough and we need to raise our level - everybody," goaltender Pekka Rinne said.

ABOUT THE STARS: While Dallas rode the stellar goaltending of Ben Bishop and a defense that permitted the second-fewest goals during the regular season to the first wild card, the top line of Tyler Seguin, captain Jamie Benn and Alexander Radulov has tilted the momentum. The trio accounted for seven of its 16 points and 16 shots on goal in Game 5 while matched up against Nashville's No. 1 unit. "Our line's all about work," Seguin said. "It's about will. Obviously, we have the skill and the talent there. But when we're working hard, we're happy to go up against anybody."

          OVERTIME

          1. Bishop, named a Vezina Trophy finalist on Saturday, has not allowed more than three goals in his last 17 appearances.

          2. Arvidsson did not go more than three games in a row without a point during the regular season.

          3. Benn had three assists in Game 5 to take over the team lead with six points.

          PREDICTION: Stars 3, Predators 2
