Friday 4-26-19 Free Plays / Trends / Betting Info / Etc
Max Fried, Atlanta Braves (3-0. 1.38 ERA, $168): The 25-year-old lefty has been lights out this year for Atlanta with a WHIP of just 1.04 through four starts. He's coming off a game against Cleveland where he won a duel against Tribe pitcher Shane Bieber by allowing two earned runs through 6.1 innings. Tonight he'll get a juicy matchup against the Colorado Rockies who are in the bottom third of the league in batting average, runs per game and homeruns. The Braves are -165 favorites at home.
SLUMPING
Max Scherzer, Washington Nationals (1-3, 4.45 ERA, -$601): The three-time Cy Young Winner is off to a terrible start in 2019, especially by his lofty standards. In five starts this year, he's come away with just a single win and even in that victory he allowed four earned runs through 6.1 innings. In his last start he was dinged for 11 hits and six earned runs in just over five innings of work against the Marlins.
But there are signs that Scherzer's still capable of being a dominant pitcher, he's whiffed 44 batters this year in just 32.1 innings. He'll try to return to form at home against the San Diego Padres today, with the Nationals -192 favorites. Since he joined Washington in 2015, Scherzer's pitched in 28.2 innings over four starts against the Padres with just four earned runs and 44 strikouts.

JACOB DEGROM DAY
We're still going to mention Jacob deGrom day, how can we not with the first five innings Under cashing in 25 of his last 31 starts, but that might be a bet to avoid versus the Milwaukee Brewers. DeGrom was scratched from his previous start with pain in his right elbow and while his MRI came back clean and he is expected to get the nod tonight, there are questions after his last two starts. His second-last start he allowed six runs over four innings to the Twins which snapped an incredible 26-game streak of quality starts.
ALL THEY DO IS WIN, WIN, WIN NO MATTER WHAT
Despite having a lineup decimated by injuries the Yankees continue to play well (last night's loss to the Angels notwithstanding). New York is 6-1 in their last seven games overall and head to San Fran to take on Madison Bumgarner and the Giants. New York is 12-5 in their last 17 interleague games on the road while the Giants are 3-7 in their previous 10 interleague games at home and just 1-6 in Bumgarner's last seven starts overall.
ALL OVER YOU
Quite a few betting trends are leading towards the Over in tonight's matchup between the Rangers and Mariners. The Over is 5-1 in the Rangers last six games overall, and 6-1 in Shelby Miller's last seven starts. While the Over has cashed in four of the Mariners last five games and in each of Yusei Kikuchi's previous five starts.
-- The Twins are 21-0 SU as a 140+ favorite off a game as a dog in which their bullpen allowed multiple runs and it is before the All-Star break.
SU Play AGAINST Trend of the Day:
-- The Marlins are 0-23 SU as a road dog of more than 135 after a game in which they had at least five more team-left-on-base than their opponent.
Batter-Based Trend of the Day:
-- The Marlins are 0-19 SU in franchise history as a 160+ dog after a game in which Starlin Castro had multiple hits and at least four at bats, getting beat by an average of 5.68 runs per game. Brutal.
Starter-Based Trend of the Day:
-- The Nationals are 8-0 SU with Max Scherzer when they lost in his last two starts, winning by an average of 4.75 runs per game.
