Your Tuesday comp play goes on the Under in Philadelphia and Toronto.

Hard to build a case for the Over when you consider that in their 9 playoff games contested, the Raptors have been able to keep their opponents under 100 points in each of their last 3 games, and in 7 of their 9 overall games this postseason.

The Under has banked in each of the previous 4 games contested in this series against the 76ers, while the Under for the Raptors is 8-1 overall in the playoffs.

Philadelphia has also played 9 games in the playoffs, and obviously all 4 in this semifinals series have landed Under, as have each of their last 6, and 7 of their 9 overall.

Series numbers between the teams now show 5 straight, 6 of the last 7 and 7 of the past 10 overall having landed Under the total.

Can't really buck those numbers until I see someone other than Kawhi Leonard or Jimmy Butler score consistently from game to game.

            Philadelphia-Toronto Under in Game 5.

            3* PHILADELPHIA-TORONTO UNDER

Tuesday night comp play on the diamond is the Reds and the Atheltics to post enough runs for this game to land Over the total.

Cincinnati just finished up a 4-game homestand against San Francisco that saw all 4 games land Over the total. Combined runs of 16 in yesterday's finale, 11 total runs on both Sunday and Saturday, and 23 runs to start the series last Friday. As you can see, not a lot of good pitching going on of late, but plenty of offense to go around!

Oakland is back home after playing 9 in a row on the road, and they too have been playing them high, as each of their 4 and 5 of their last 6 of that road trip all played Over the total.

In charge tonight of keeping the runs from scoring will be Tyler Mahle for Cincinnati, and Mike Fiers for Oakland. Somehow the Under is 5-0-1 in Mahle's 6 season starts, but the hurler has allowed 10 runs on 16 hits over his last 16 innings. He has not pitched past the 6th inning in any of his starts this season, so expect the suspect Cincy bullpen to see action in this one and add fuel to the fire so to speak.

As for Fiers, he sports a whopping 6.81 season ERA and that has translated to Overs in 4 of his last 5 season starts.

Both teams have just played too many runs-laden games of late for me to think that Mahle and Fiers are going to go out there and mow the batters down for very long in this series opener.

I will go ahead and play the Over in the Reds-Athletics meeting in Oakland tonight.

              5* CINCINNATI-OAKLAND OVER

Philadelphia 76ers vs. Toronto Raptors Preview and Predictions 05-07-2019 in NBA

The Philadelphia 76ers finally broke through in Toronto earlier in the Eastern Conference semifinals and will have to beat the Raptors in Canada at least one more time to win the series. Toronto tied it up at 2-2 with a solid 101-96 victory in Game 4 and hosts two of the final three games, including Tuesday's Game 5.

Raptors star small forward Kawhi Leonard made five 3-point baskets while pouring in 39 points in Sunday's triumph and he has been unstoppable by averaging 38 points in the series with four straight 30-point efforts. "He's been doing it time and time again," said Raptors guard Danny Green, who has played with Leonard for eight seasons, including seven in San Antonio. "He's getting better with time and each game at picking apart the defense, taking what they're giving him." Philadelphia's win in Toronto in Game 2 ended a 14-game road losing streak in the series but the biggest factor in terms of doing it again may be the health of center Joel Embiid (illness in addition to a sore left knee). "I mean, at the end of the day, it's on me," Embiid told reporters after scoring just 11 points on 2-for-7 shooting in Sunday's loss. "I got to be more aggressive. I've got to help my teammates better."

TV: 8 p.m. ET, TNT, Sportsnet One (Toronto)

ABOUT THE 76ERS: The Game 4 loss was a huge missed opportunity for Philadelphia as taking a 3-1 series lead would have increased the pressure on the Raptors, who are expected to lose Leonard as a free agent after the season. Jimmy Butler had a stellar effort with 29 points in the setback but he agreed that the club needs a big showing from Embiid - who had 33 points in the Game 3 win - to regain the series lead on Tuesday. "We just want him to be aggressive," Butler told reporters of Embiid. "I mean, if you are going to go 2-for-7, go 2-for-20. I'm with it. ... We're rocking with Jo. That's what we need out of him, to always be aggressive. Moving forward, we expect the same thing. Go show why you're so dominant, night in and night out, on both ends of the floor."

ABOUT THE RAPTORS: Toronto bounced back from a 116-95 drubbing in Game 3 with an improved defensive effort and held Philadelphia to 40.2 percent shooting from the field. "In Game 3, we let them off the hook, and they scored 116 or 120 points or something - that's not what we do," Leonard told reporters after Game 4. "The close games we're in, the games we won, we held them under 100 points, and that's what we've gotta do." Power forward Pascal Siakam played through a calf injury in Game 4 but struggled to nine points on 2-of-10 shooting after averaging 23.3 points over the first three games.

                BUZZER BEATERS

                1. Raptors PG Kyle Lowry is just 4-of-20 from 3-point range while averaging 12.5 points and 6.3 assists in the series.

                2. Philadelphia F Tobias Harris had a series-best 16 points in Game 4 but was just 7-of-23 shooting - he is averaging 13 points while going 21-of-62 from the field.

                3. Toronto backup PF-C Serge Ibaka received 32 minutes of playing time in Game 4 and has his best effort of the series with 12 points, nine rebounds and three blocked shots.

                PREDICTION: Raptors 105, 76ers 101

Portland Trail Blazers vs. Denver Nuggets Preview and Predictions 05-07-2019 in NBA

The Denver Nuggets have turned the Western Conference semifinals into a best-of-three conclusion and that's not a bad thing for a team that was an NBA-best 34-7 at home this season. The Nuggets look to take a 3-2 lead in the series when they host the Portland Trail Blazers in Tuesday's Game 5.

Being home for two of the final three games is appealing to Denver coach Michael Malone but he sees Trail Blazers star Damian Lillard scoring 28 points on an off-day and he isn't about to relax. "We haven't done anything yet," Malone told reporters after Sunday's 116-112 win in Portland. "It's a tied series. We've taken home-court advantage back but Dame is capable of putting up 40 and 50 in a heartbeat. By no means are we thinking that we've figured him out." The Nuggets' victory in Game 4 was highly needed after Friday's historic 140-137 quadruple-overtime loss and now the Trail Blazers look to win in Denver for the second time in the series. "I think we're in a good space, 2-to-2," Lillard told reporters. "We know we're capable of winning on their floor and that's what we've got to go get done. Obviously it's disappointing, we didn't want to let an opportunity like this slip but it happens. It's playoff basketball and we've got to move forward."

                  TV: 10:30 p.m. ET, TNT

ABOUT THE TRAIL BLAZERS: Lillard was just 9-of-22 shooting in Game 4 and he is 24-of-63 over the past three games - including 5-of-23 from 3-point range - despite averaging 27.3 points in the series. Shooting guard CJ McCollum is averaging 26.5 points in the series and he had 29 points in Game 4 after posting 41 in the second-ever, four-overtime playoff outing, the other being in 1953. Center Enes Kanter (shoulder) struggled in Game 4 with just five points after averaging 19.7 over the first three games.

ABOUT THE NUGGETS: Point guard Jamal Murray scored 34 points for the second consecutive game and star center Nikola Jokic had 21 points, 12 rebounds and 11 assists for his second straight triple-double as Denver showed big-time resolve with Sunday's win. "I think it's not quitting," Jokic told reporters. "We have a lot of competitive guys who don't want to lose. I think we don't want to lose more than we like to win - which is weird. We just didn't want to have the excuse that we lost because of four overtimes, because we were tired." Jokic is averaging 26.8 points, 13.3 rebounds and 9.5 assists in the series while Murray is averaging 26.5 points.

                  BUZZER BEATERS

                  1. Nuggets PF Paul Millsap is averaging 17.8 points and 10 rebounds in the series and has recorded three straight double-doubles.

                  2. Portland PF Al-Farouq Aminu scored 19 points in Game 4 after totaling 19 through the first three games.

                  3. Denver swingman Will Barton averaged 16.5 points in the two games in Portland after averaging just 6.5 in two home contests.

PREDICTION: Nuggets 121, Trail Blazers 119

Dallas Stars vs. St. Louis Blues Preview and Predictions 05-07-2019 in NHL

The St. Louis Blues look to defeat the visiting Dallas Stars in Game 7 of their Western Conference second-round series for the second time since 2016 when the Central Division rivals reconvene in the Gateway City on Tuesday. St. Louis, which has won two of six home games this postseason, pushed the current series to its limit with a 4-1 win in Dallas on Sunday.

"A lot of different players on these teams, different makeup, different coaches," St. Louis captain Alex Pietrangelo told reporters. "Some of this helps because we've been through a few of these before. We've got some guys that are ready, who have been through this." The 29-year-old Pietrangelo, who was held off the scoresheet in the Blues' 6-1 win in Game 7 on May 11, 2016, scored on Sunday for his 15th point (two goals, 13 assists) in 15 games. Captain Jamie Benn recorded his team-leading eighth assist on the first-period power-play goal of Tyler Seguin, who boasts a club-best 11 points. "It's exciting," the 29-year-old Benn told reporters. "What a great opportunity in front of us, and for both teams, to go out there and battle it out for one game and winner take all."

TV: 8 p.m. ET, NBC Sports Network, CBC, TVA

ABOUT THE STARS: Mats Zuccarello also had an assist on Seguin's goal to give him a career-high seven points in a series heading Tuesday's decisive contest. "It's a Game 7, we knew it was going to be a tight series," the 31-year-old Norwegian told reporters. "If you want to go far in the playoffs, you usually have to go through some Game 7s." Ben Bishop was shaken up after St. Louis defenseman Colton Parayko's shot hit him squarely on the left shoulder, but coach Jim Montgomery told reporters that the 6-7 goaltender will be fine to compete in his third career Game 7.

ABOUT THE BLUES: Jaden Schwartz benefited from Bishop's injury situation by scoring moments later to boost his goal total to eight this postseason, which is the sixth most by any member of the Blues in a single playoff year. Ryan O'Reilly set up Sammy Blais' goal 33 seconds later to give the former five points in his last five contests. Rookie Jordan Binnington has turned aside 47 of 50 shots over the last two games after allowing 10 goals in the previous three.

                    OVERTIME

                    1. Dallas F Andrew Cogliano has played in a club-high five Game 7s in his NHL career while Seguin and D Ben Lovejoy have skated in four.

                    2. St. Louis F Robby Fabbri became the youngest NHL player to record three points (one goal, two assists) in a Game 7 when he accomplished the feat in 2016.

                    3. The Stars' franchise holds a 5-7 all-time record in Game 7s, with a 2-3 mark since the team moved to Dallas.

                    PREDICTION: Blues 3, Stars 2

1* Free MLB Pick on Seattle Mariners +145
Simply too much value here with Seattle in the second game of a 4-game series at New York. Yankees won the series opener 7-3 on Monday and it's been rough going for the Mariners of late, but I like them in this spot.
Prior to putting up 7 runs in yesterday's win, New York's offense had scored 4 or fewer in 4 of their previous 5 games and are still missing a bunch of big bats, including their dynamic duo of Stanton and Judge.
Seattle will have Marco Gonzales on the mound and he's 5-1 with a 3.28 ERA in 8 starts. Mariners are 6-2 as a team in his 8 starts. New York counters with Masahiro Tanaka, who has a great history against Seattle, but has also not pitched great in 2019. He's just 2-3 with a 3.92 ERA and 1.307 in 7 starts and New York has lost 5 of those 7 outings.
Mariners are 15-6 in their last 21 vs a starter with a WHIP greater than 1.30 and are a perfect 4-0 in Gonzalez's last 4 road starts. Take Seattle!

Two poor starters go at it tonight when the Red Sox continue their series with the Orioles. Hector Velazquez is averaging just 2.8 innings per start in his four starts this season for the Red Sox, so the Orioles are sure to get into their bullpen early. David Hess is 1-4 with a 5.72 ERA in six starts this season for the Orioles, including 0-2 with an 8.74 ERA in his last three. Hess is 0-3 with an 8.56 ERA in three previous starts against the Red Sox. Velazquez is 1-1 with a 4.22 ERA in three previous starts against the Orioles. Boston is 12-2 OVER when revenging two straight losses where they scored 2 runs or less over the last three seasons. The OVER is 4-1-1 in Hess’ last six starts. Give me the OVER.

Jose Berrios (5-1, 2.91 ERA) seeks his fifth straight win, having gone 4-0 with a 3.51 ERA over his past four starts. Berrios is 1-0 with a 0.71 ERA in two career starts against the Blue Jays. Meanwhile Sanchez the Twins starter has gone more than five innings just once in his last five starts. He has seen alot of deep counts, which have forced him to throw a lot of pitches early on in games and fatigue has subsequently set in. In his last start, 11 balls put in play had exit velocities above 96 mph which is not a good omen entering this tilt.
