                Analysis:
NOTE: Paddock was a late scratch for this afternoon's game in Toronto due to uncomfortable pillow and a poor night of sleep for rookie right-hander Chris Paddack. Robbie Erlin gets the spot start making this a no play due to pitching change.

PLAY: UNDER 7.5 runs (good to 7 runs)
                4% game rating
                LIST PITCHERS: Stroman and Paddack

                (975) San Diego Padres at (976) Toronto Blue Jays

The Padres send one of the top rookies on the Senior Circuit to the mound north of the border this afternoon with the aim of sweeping the Blue Jays on their home feild turf and dirt. The Jays' first-year slugger, Vlad Guerro will want to have a say in avoiding a sweep.

Righty Paddack is human after all, for those that are curious about his underlying peripherals. The rookie right-hander rebounded from a poor start in Los Angeles against the Dodgers with a solid outing against the Arizona Diamondbacks this past Monday. Paddack punched out seven and allowed one run on five hits over six innings. The Dodgers recorded only five hits in just over four innings two starts back but scored six runs (3 earned) on two home runs.

Paddack is holding opposing batters to a .156 average and has the lowest ERA through his first nine starts of any pitcher in franchise history. Paddack has 56 strikeouts against 11 walks over 51 1/3 innings. He is 1-1 on the road in four starts with a 2.75 ERA.

Paddack bounced back from his worst start of the season with a superb effort last time out, beating Arizona on Monday by striking out seven and permitting one run along with five hits over six innings. Not only is he holding opposing batters to a .156 average, but the 23-year-old has the lowest ERA through his first nine starts of any pitcher in franchise history. Paddack, who has registered 56 strikeouts against only 11 walks over 51 1/3 innings, has made four road starts and is 1-1 with a 2.75 ERA.

Paddack averages in the mid-90's with his fastball and does so with the command of a veteran arm.

Stroman found a way to work through six walks against a lineup that draws more walks than any team in baseball, Boston, allowing five hits over six innings of one-run ball. Stroman 1-4 in seven starts at Rogers Centre but lacks wins because of his lack of runs support. Stroman has a 2.43 ERA and 3.15 FIP when tossing the ball to his battery mate under the old Skye Dome roof.

The Padres offense has been everything but efficient. The own one of the worst batting averages in baseball with runners in scoring position and their on base percentage on the season is higher than only four clubs. Those being Detroit, San Fran, Miami and their opponent this afternoon, Toronto.

The Padres also score a higher percentage of their runs (213) via home run (79) than any team in the league. San Diego is slashing .235/.292/.417 against right-handed pitching. They square off against Stroman has an ERA of 2.42 and FIP of 3.15 who is allowing one home run per 18 innings of work.

Tom Hallion has one of the widest strike zones among active umpires.

Hallion is 6-0 to the UNDER in his last six games grading Blue Jays' hitters balls and strikes

Across the last two seasons Hallion has a home plate K:BB ratio that ranks in the Top-10 percent of active umpires. His wide zone and propensity to give quality breaking balls strike calls benefits both pitchers in this getaway contest, particularly Stroman.

UNDER the TOTAL of 7.5 runs

                        Today's Totals
                        1-Unit Play. Take 'Under' 9.0 L.A. Dodgers at Pittsburgh (1:30 p.m., Sunday, May 26)
2-Unit Play. Take 'Under' 7.5 Cincinnati at Chicago Cubs (2 p.m., Sunday, May 26)
1-Unit Play. FIRST 5 INNINGS: Take 'Under' 4.5 (-125) Cincinnati at Chicago Cubs (2 p.m., Sunday, May 26)
7-Unit Play. Take 'Over' 9.0 Atlanta at St. Louis (7 p.m., Sunday, May 26)
                        1-Unit Play. Take #962 St. Louis (-150) over Atlanta (7 p.m., Sunday, May 26)
Julio Teheran has been on fire over his last four starts, allowing just two runs and 10 hits over his last 23 innings of work. Early in the season I said that Teheran was throwing the ball better than his numbers suggested, so his recent hot streak isn't a surprise to me. However, I think he's going to get hit hard here. His velocity is still tracking down so he's getting it done with guile. Well, one of the teams he shut down in that four-game stretch was the Cardinals, allowing just two hits in five innings of a 10-2 Braves win on May 16. The Cards are getting another crack at home tonight - at home, with revenge - and I think they will absolutely take advantage. The 'over' is 17-6 in the last 23 meetings between these two and is 7-3 in the last 10 meetings in St. Louis. Jack Flaherty is solid. But he can be gotten to. He has allowed three or more runs in five of his last seven starts. And after back-to-back quality starts - including one against the Braves - I think he'll get touched up. The Braves hitters have been in a groove. Atlanta has scored an average of 5.5 runs per game in their last 10. Yet they have gone 'under' in six of their last eight. That doesn't really track. I know their bullpen has been a lot better. But I just think that things in this matchup are tracking toward a high-scoring affair. I like this one to sneak over late and I can see a 6-4 or 7-5 type game.
2-Unit Play. Take 'Under' 8.0 San Diego at Toronto (1 p.m., Sunday, May 26)
                        1-Unit Play. Take 'Over' 9.0 Texas at L.A. Angels (4 p.m., Sunday, May 26)
                        Carpe diem. Good luck.

3-Unit Play. Take 'Under' 8.5 Boston at Houston (2 p.m., Sunday, May 26)
These two teams have played back-to-back great games in this three game set and this game should be no different. The Astros have taken the first two games of this series with identical 4-3 scores and with Jut Verlander on the mound looking for the sweep Houston should be focused today. Sweeping the champs would be a nice feather in the cap of the Stros so look for the ageless Verlander to spin a gem in what figures to be a low scoring affair.

Best of luck - Strike Point Sports

Seattle was one of the best teams in the league at hitting lefties earlier in the season but now they are only 17th in runs scored against lefties and 16th in OPS against lefties. Mike Leake is 1-5 with a 5.21 ERA over his last eight starts. He is 2-2 with a 4.15 ERA against the Athletics in nine career starts.
