    LAA +105 (tomorrow's Wednesday game)

    Angels v. A’s – Basewinner Line Angels -135

Griffin Canning has been Griffin “Can Do” In 5 his starts, his BAR is 78 and BWK=133

The BAR is the Basewinner Run number scaled to 100 based on K%, BB% and GB& and adjusted for opponent and park conditions. Lower is better.
This is median K% rate scaled to 100 and adjusted for opponent and park conditions. Lower is better.

    GC’s YTD bb/k is .31 compared with Mengden’s .85 in his 3 2019 starts.

    Cheers,

          Wednesday May 29th 2019-

7 Unit Play Take #913 LAA Angels -115 over Oakland (3:37pm est):

The LAA Angels will start Griffin Canning in this one today. The 23 year-old right-hander is the kind of pitcher that I am looking to back as he's currently flying way under the radar. Canning started the season down in AAA and was fantastic posting a 0.56 ERA in three minor league starts. He was called up to the big leagues a month ago and he has pitched well in five starts for the Angels with a solid 3.42 ERA. The key with Canning is he looks to be a guy that has high level stuff as evidenced by the fact he has the 2nd lowest contact rate allowed by a starting pitcher this year in MLB (20 IP minimum). Canning's numbers are better than they look as he was hurt by one poor showing in Baltimore's homer friendly ballpark where he allowed three home runs in the game to the Orioles. The long ball shouldn't be a problem here today with this game being played in pitcher friendly Oakland Coliseum. If you throw that Baltimore game out and look at Canning's other four starts, he has a very strong 2.50 ERA to go along with a WHIP of just 0.88, a strikeout rate of 27% while walking less than 6% of the hitters he's faced, all of which are excellent numbers for a pitcher.

The Oakland A's will counter here with starter Daniel Mengden in this one. Mengden was called up to the majors a few weeks ago and though he's posted a 3.31 ERA so far, he's been way more lucky than good. Mengden has had some control issues as he's allowed an average of 6.00+ walks per nine innings. His swinging strike numbers are also bottom of the barrel at just 6.1% and his xFIP and Siera are both ugly at over 6.00+. He'll be facing an LAA Angels offense here that is ranked 2nd in the league in team batting average against right-handed pitching. The Angels have won 8 of their last 11 games against a starting pitcher with a WHIP above 1.30 and Mengden comes in with a 1.47 WHIP on the season.

This line is too low. Take LAA Angels. Won game one of the Stanley Cup Finals the other night. Ready to make it two in a row with a winning play tonight on the ice. Nothing better than playoff hockey action!!

          Thank you and good luck,

          Jason Sharpe

            Robert Ferringo

            2-Unit Play. Take #904 Philadelphia (-155) over St. Louis (7 p.m., Wednesday, May 29)

The Cardinals are trotting out rookie Genesis Cabrera today. Cabrera is making his MLB debut in one of the toughest venues in baseball. He was in Double-A last year. This year he is in Triple-A, where he posted a 6.35 ERA. I don't know that he's ready for this spot against a hot Phillies team. Aaron Nola is better than his numbers. He has really only had one poor outing in his last six starts. Kick that one out and he has allowed just seven earned runs in 24 innings. The Cardinals have not been playing well at all this month, to say the least. They are just 6-17 in their last 23 games and I think that they are going to take another L here.

            3-Unit Play. Take #905 San Francisco (-115) over Miami (7 p.m., Wednesday, May 29)

These are two really bad teams. And I generally don't like to lay out like this on a bad team. But as bad as San Francisco is, they still aren't as bad as the Marlins, who are pathetic. San Francisco has lost six straight. But they have a stopper going today with Madison Bumgarner on the hill. He's not what he once was. But he's still good enough. He's managed a quality start in four of his last five outings while facing some legit lineups like the Dodgers, Colorado and Atlanta. I think he can mow down a Marlins lineup that is hitting a collective .226 against southpaws. The Marlins are trotting out Pablo Lopez, who is a loser. He has a 5.40 ERA so far this season and a 9.22 ERA in his last three. Lopez has been either really, really good - allowing three or fewer hits and no earned runs in three of his last nine starts - or really, really bad. He's been touched for four or more runs in five of his last nine starts, including allowing 10 runs in three innings against the Mets. He's not Bumgarner. And that's enough for me. I'll back Bumgarner to have a day

            1-Unit Play. Take #908 Atlanta (-155) over Washington (7 p.m., Wednesday, May 29)

            3-Unit Play. Take #922 Tampa Bay (-1.5, -120) over Toronto (7 p.m., Wednesday, May 29)

It took Blake Snell a minute to get himself going this year. But he's fine now. He's been in great form over his last four starts. He's one out away from four straight quality starts and has a 1.48 ERA over that stretch. He has 37 strikeouts to just six walks and he has been rocking. He should dominate a Toronto lineup that has hit just .225 against lefties this season. Nothing about Trent Thornton scares me. He's given up 11 earned runs in his last 19 innings and he won't go deep into this game against a patient Tampa team. The Rays roughed him up for five runs in three innings the first time they saw him. I think they'll do the same here.

            1-Unit Play. Take #926 N.Y. Yankees (-135) over San Diego (1 p.m., Wednesday, May 29)

James Paxton is coming back from injury. I am betting that he'll be OK. And if he is then he should be able to handle the Padres here. I like Chris Paddack. But he is volatile and he may not handle his first start in NYC very well. I think both starters will be good here, and I don't think the Yankees will lose two of three at home.

            Today's Totals

1-Unit Play. Take 'Under' 8.0 San Diego at N.Y. Yankees (1 p.m., Wednesday, May 29)

1-Unit Play. Take 'Over' 10.0 St. Louis at Philadelphia (7 p.m., Wednesday, May 29)

7-Unit Play. Take 'Over' 9.5 Texas at Seattle (3:40 p.m.., Wednesday, May 29)

Play this game as ?Action? instead of ?Listed Pitchers?. The Rangers are still debating between two arms. They may go with Jose LeClerc, who has a 5.48 ERA and indicates that the Rangers are going with a bullpen game. Or they are going with Drew Smyly, who is rocking a 6.15 ERA this season. Either way the Rangers are trotting out a pitching machine and Seattle should hit the ball. And Texas will hit the ball because LeBlanc stinks and because that's what they do. The Rangers are No. 2 in runs per game and No. 5 in OPS. They are also No. 27 in team ERA. Seattle is No. 10 in runs and No. 2 in homers. They are No. 28 in team ERA. Seattle is going with Wade LeBlanc, who is garbage. He has a 7.33 ERA on the season and he can't get anyone out. The Rangers torched him for six runs in five innings the last time they saw him. And over his last six starts he's allowed 27 runs in 28 innings. Not great!

            Carpe diem. Good luck.

              TORONTO @ TAMPA BAY | 5/29 | 7:10 PM EDT
              4:18 AM
This is a big price to pay for the Rays, but my model says that Tampa Bay wins 78 percent of the time, which still makes this a solid play. Blake Snell has been nasty over his last four starts, with a 1.48 ERA, 0.86 WHIP and 13.7 strikeouts per nine innings. Meanwhile Toronto is 4-7 in games started by Trent Thornton, who was shelled for five earned runs on eight hits, including three home runs, by the Rays on April 12. Ride the Rays.

My simulations have the Phillies winning almost 70 percent of the time, so you're getting solid value with Philadelphia, even at this price. The pitching matchup strongly favors the Phillies. Philadelphia's Aaron Nola is 4-0 with a 3.05 ERA in his last seven starts while the Cardinals will be starting Genesis Cabrera, who will be making his major league debut. Take the Phils.

No Springer? No Altuve? No Correa? No problem. The Astros beat the Cubs, 9-6, on Tuesday night despite starting a patchwork lineup and giving up five home runs to Chicago's mashers. On Wednesday, Houston starts Wade Miley, who has allowed three runs or fewer in 30 of 31 starts, including the playoffs. I have the Astros winning 60 percent of the time, which means the public is getting a great price on the 'Stros as an underdog

                SAN FRANCISCO @ MIAMI | 5/29 | 7:10 PM EDT
                11:59 AM
The Marlins spanked the Giants on Tuesday night as a favorite and now find themselves as underdogs at home thanks mostly to the fact Madison Bumgarner is on the mound for the Giants. I still like the value on Miami here, because as bad as Miami's offense has been on the season, San Francisco's hasn't exactly been much better. The only offense worse has been Miami's, and do you want to trust one of the worst offenses in baseball as a road favorite?

On Tuesday, the Orioles were home underdogs against the Tigers, one of the worst teams in baseball. Oddsmakers were right, and they’ve adjusted for Wednesday with John Means taking the mound for Baltimore. Means owns five of the Orioles 17 wins on the year, which should be a confidence-booster for Baltimore. Grab the Orioles.

The Marlins and Giants played in one of Tuesday's highest scoring games (14 runs). On Wednesday, Marlins starter Pablo Lopez has alternated strong outings with poor outings for eight straight starts. After lasting just 3.2 innings in his last outing, Lopez is due for another good start. Grab the Under.

It’s rare to see Noah Syndergaard as a steep underdog, but the Dodgers boast strong factors for Wednesday night. A stout home record (20-7) gets boosted even further behind young ace Walker Buehler, who has a 5-1 record. The Mets will get underdog attraction after last night’s performance, but grab the Dodgers Wednesday night.

One of the top pitching prospects in baseball, Genesis Cabrera will make his major league debut Wednesday for the Cardinals. Often, the name recognition of a top prospect provides value against in a debut game. Grab Philadelphia as the Phillies build off of yesterday’s come-from-behind win.

The Cubs bullpen continues to be shaky, and that shakiness has shifted to Chicago's starters. The staff as a whole has yielded 7.7 runs a game over the last six games. That’s a value attractor Wednesday when the Cubs face Wade Miley, who has yielded three runs or fewer in 30 of 31 starts. Look for a Cubs turnaround performance Wednesday. Grab Chicago.

The Cubs have the seventh-best OPS against lefties this season, but the Astros have the second-best OPS against righties. Wade Miley is 4-0 with a 3.41 ERA in May and he has given up more than three runs just once in his last 31 (!!) starts. Kyle Hendricks is 4-4 with a 3.34 ERA but he’s given up seven runs in his last two starts. Hendricks is 2-3 with a 6.0 ERA in five starts on the road while Miley is 3-0 with a 2.15 ERA at home. Take the value in the Astros at home.

Griffin Canning has earned himself a spot in the rotation since being called up going 2-1 with a 3.42 ERA. Daniel Mengden is 1-1 with a 3.31 ERA since being called up. However, the Athletics are 9-1 in their last 10 games and Mike Trout is most likely sitting today with a bruised foot. The Blues jumped out to the early lead in Game 1 but weren't able to hold on. They took too many penalties and the Bruins high octane power play took advantage. The Schenn, Tarasenko, Schwartz line was buzzing in Game 1 but Tuuka Rask only needed to make 18 saves all game. I like that line to lead the scoring in a strong performance in front of Jordan Binnington in Game 2. I think the Blues will put an emphasis on getting pucks to the net and not taking penalties. Binnington steals this one.
