My 1* Free Play is on the San Francisco Giants (7:10 EST).
A couple of National League bottom feeders go head to head in this one.
The Giants got blown out 11-3 in yesterday’s series opener. I had a play on San Francisco on that one (unfortunately), but while that play came up short, I think the visitors offer great value to bounce back on Wednesday by handing the ball to Madison Bumgarner.
Bumgarner (3-4, 4.10 ERA) comes in off perhaps his best start of the year, going six innings while posting 17 swinging strikes and giving up two runs vs. the Braves on Thursday.
With both the Phillies and Yankees reportedly interested in the Giants’ veteran, Bumgarner has plenty to “play for” here, even though his team might not.
Pablo Lopez (3-5, 5.40) gets the nod for the home side. Lopez has an 8.26 ERA on the road and a 1.93 ERA at home.
The Marlins though are a terrible 1-4 (-2.9 units) already this season after scoring eight or more runs.
Not much on the line here for anyone, except for Bumgarner. I think the veteran is worth a second look in this matchup. Consider San Francisco on Wednesday night.

James Paxton is coming off the disabled list tomorrow and there are reports that he still has some pain and soreness but he thinks he can pitch through it. I've got a system that I like to watch that involves fading pitchers in their first start of the disabled list. I'd say the majority of them struggle to get to five innings because of a pitch count or because of rustiness. The southpaw did not do a rehab stint in the minors either. San Diego is 14-7 in day games and are hitting around .280 in their last eight contests. Chris Paddack is coming off a neck injury which caused his start to be bumped a few days. The rookie is 4-2 with a 1.93 ERA in nine starts this season. He's pitched well for the most part outside of getting rocked by the Dodgers. The Yankees offense is mashing right now, but I like Paddack's chances to get some strikeouts. I trust Paddack more then I do Paxton right now.

The MLB Comp play is on Seattle at 3:40 eastern. The mariners are 12-5 vs losing teams and have won 5 of 7 as a home favorite of -110 or more heading in this weeks games. Texas has lost 15 of 20 as a road dog to +150 and the Rangers have lost 11 of 12 on the road vs leftys heading into this week. Smyly makes the start for Texas and he is 0-3 at Seattle. He opposes Leblanc who is 11-2 as a home favorite and has won both meetings at home vs Texas. Look for Seattle to take this one. For the MLB Free play. Make it the Mariners. Rob V- GC Sports

DANCE WITH STARS - First-timer has been working over this very track. I think that's a big plus in her favor. Johnson adds Lasix to this one today. I'd look for a pretty big improvement.

Vulnerable Contenders: #2 TRUE PURPOSE (ML=2/1), #5 KARA LOT (ML=9/2), #1 LADY BIDDER (ML=5/1),

TRUE PURPOSE - Would have to get much more than the M/L odds of 2/1 to bet on this entrant. KARA LOT - I'm foretelling a less than stellar go of it out of her in today's event. LADY BIDDER - This racer gave a lackluster effort last time finishing fifth. Don't see any chance of any betterment in today's event. I give my vote to MONEY TREND here. With Rocco aboard him, this colt will most likely be able to break out early for this event. Is worth a look and may be a bet - strong speed figures (78 average) at today's distance and surface recently. Looks like a formidable player for the exotics. NO CENTS LEFT - With a reliable 83 average Equibase Speed Figure at the distance, seems well suited for today's race. Some respectable figures have been posted by this trainer's runners racing at this distance and surface. LONG GRAY LINE - Must be given a shot here on the basis of the figs in the speed section alone. The average class fig of 82 makes this one tough to beat.
