- Miguel Cabrera. The Detroit slugger drove in five runs as the Tigers broke a ten-game home losing streak in yesterday’s series opening 9-6 victory. I had a paid selection on Detroit as a massive +220 underdog in that one and I think it offers great value to steal this game as well. Spencer Turnbull (3-4, 2.84 ERA) and Charlie Morton (6-0, 2.54) are evenly matched and in my opinion, that then swings the value of this contest to the hungry underdog, who clearly can’t take anything for granted after a single home victory.
Key Trends:
- Tampa is just 2-6 in its last eight road games after allowing nine or more runs in a loss in its previous outing.
- Detroit is 8-5 in its last 13 after scoring eight or more runs in a victory in its previous outing.
The verdict: The Rays got out to an unbelievable start to the 2019 campaign, but I think they’re over-priced here considering their recent form. Because of that, I’ll recommend a second look at the home underdog on Wednesday night!

Toronto did take a dozen more shots than Golden State did in the Game 2 Raptors loss. It was simply a poor shooting night for Toronto. Give some credit to the Warriors efforts on defense in that regard but also note that Golden State's Klay Thompson's D certainly could be impacted by his hamstring injury. He is listed as questionable for tonight's game and, while spotting up and shooting is not so tough with a hamstring injury his ability to defend is likely to be what is more impacted if he goes tonight in this one. Of course the Warriors already were without Kevin Durant and now they lost bench depth with Kevon Looney's injury. The Raptors are 4-2 ATS in their last 6 meetings with the Warriors. Golden State is a long-term 11-21 ATS against Atlantic Division foes. The Warriors are just 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games at home. What can be said about these two teams at this point which hasn’t been said a million times? The Warriors’ strengths and weaknesses are well known to even the most casual NBA fan. After gaining the split in Toronto, the defending champs have to be feeling pretty good about themselves heading back home for Game 3. Golden State looked markedly better on the defensive side of the ball in Game 2, after its Game 1 collapse. It’s going to be hard for the Warriors to slow down Kawhi Leonard, but Golden State has the depth and experience to make the rest of the team work for every point. Toronto looked like it was going to roll to another victory with a lead at half time in Game 2, but the Warriors completely dominated the second half. Clearly the Raptors can ill afford to turn this into a “shootout” and expect to hang with Golden State. From a situational stand point, I think this one definitely sets up great as a lower-scoring “under.”
