After three un-Lesterlike starts, Jon Lester seemed to get back on track in his last outing, limiting the Angels to one run on four hits in 7.0 innings. Meanwhile, the Cardinals' Jack Flaherty has been tough against the Cubs, but his home-road split is telling. He's 3-1 with a 2.25 ERA at home and 1-2 with a 6.20 ERA on the road. My model says the Cubs win this game more than 60 percent of the time, which makes this price a solid value.

And now he faces a Brewers lineup that he just touched him up for four runs in 6.0 innings. I have the Brew Crew winning more than 70 percent of the time, which makes the money line a solid value even at this price.

The total in this matchup yesterday was set at 10 and I felt it was too high. Turns out I was right, as Tampa won 5-1. I feel the same way today. It's the first game of a doubleheader, and while Ryan Yarbrough is more of a reliever by trade, he's gone at least seven innings in his two starts, and his FIP is much more encouraging than his ERA. He's also a groundball pitcher. The Red Sox will likely make this a bullpen game, which should help limit Tampa's offense as well. This total is just too high.

Blackburn v. Palumbo

Game 1 of the doubleheader...and a spot where we're going right back to the well with the still disrespected A's facing the overrated Rangers. Last night we hopped on a road dog that won twice in a row in such a spot...now the books have adjusted a smidge possibly realizing there errors, but it isn't enough...they opened this an almost exact flip of last night...but it should expand.

Kiner the catcher for Texas went on the IL last night so the new starting catcher is Jeff Mathis and his first start was his usual offensive addition...nil. Now he gets another go with a AA call up on the mound neither will have any chemistry together. Also add in Choo is questionable at the top of the order...and incredibly unlikely he would play both if any games of a doubleheader.

On the A's side we have a spot start but is a AAA call up Paul Blackburn and while neither starter has put up any kind of flashy stats down below the majors it sure isn't hard to fade the AA pitcher in a showdown of him and a AAA starter with some majors play under his belt. He has had multiple appearances in Oakland over the past 2 seasons and has had some decent analytic numbers...and for a groundball pitcher against a team that likes to swing for fences and still missing Gallo I sure do see a lot of value here! Finally we have the A's who look to be prepared for the lefty Palumbo with only Matt Olson in there from the left side...who hits better on the road period and is just fine as a lefty facing one...likely why he would get the call

Greinke v. Sanchez



Cannot say I understand one iota of this line here. Here's my stat of the day a la Dan Patrick. The last time Greinke lost a game period on the road as a favorite of 130 of more against a team with a winning % less than .400 was 2012! He is 10-0 SU and 7-3 on the RL.

This is just a little too scary easy...so it makes me nervous but I'm not over thinking it any more because his opponent is the Jays abysmal offense and starter-wise Aaron Sanchez with his 5+ xFIP and 5 BB/9 clogging up the bases. The Dbacks cruised last night and that was their star Stroman on the mound...which makes this even fishier...why this isn't a 5 run victory I have no idea!
