Thursday 6-20-19 Free Plays / Trends / Betting Info / Etc
For Thursday, play the Brewers to figure out a way to break out of the funk they are in now that they are back at home.
Milwaukee just got swept in San Diego over the past 3 days, as the Brewers return back home to Miller Park off of a 2-6 road swing. They will look to cool down the Reds who hit the road fresh off a 3 game sweep of Houston at home, as Cincy totes in a 4 game winning streak.
The Brewers should be able to get back to their winning ways against the Reds, as they have won 4 of the 5 season series meetings thus far, and stand at 8-2 the past 10 times these teams have played dating back to last year.
It will be Tanner Roark and Jimmy Nelson getting the ball tonight.
Roark started against the Brewers in a 4-3 loss at home back on April 1st, and he has come on some rough times this month, as he is 0-3 in June with an ERA of 5.00.
Nelson is slowly working his way back from a serious shoulder injury, and this will be just his 3rd start all year long - 0-1 with an ERA of 10.29.
I do not expect Nelson to give his team much more than 5 innings tonight, but if he can give them 5 quality frames, then I think Milwaukee will be just fine.
Brewers to continue their series dominance over the Reds.
My comp play for Thursday night will be the Astros and the Yankees to start their 4 game series from the Bronx with a high-scoring game.
Yes, Houston just played 3 in Cincinnati in which they plated just 7 runs, as all 3 of those contests held Under the total. Prior to that interleague set, Houston had been on a 4-0-1 Over run.
I like the 'Stros to get some offense working tonight at Yankee Stadium, as they will be facing Chad Green who is only likely to pitch 2 innings tops tonight in his "opener" role. Green's season ERA is over 7, and 4 of his 5 starts this season have wound up playing Over the total.
The Yankees just scored a dozen runs in sweeping the Rays out of New York, as the Yanks have been Over the total in 8 of their last 11 games played.
Series numbers in New York also point towards a higher-scoring affair, as the Over is 5-2-1 between the teams the last 8 games contested at Yankee Stadium.
My free play for tonight is in the American League Central, where I like the longshot Kansas City Royals catching a big price from the Minnesota Twins. And in this one, be sure you're listing Jake Odorizzi and Glenn Sparkman.
While I know Odorizzi has arguably been the most consistent pitcher for the Twins this season, and he brings a 10-2 mark and 2.24 ERA into this one, but Sparkman is out for revenge after the two just met in the Twin Cities.
The right-hander faces the Twins for his second straight start, and will finally get better results against a team he’s 0-3 against, with a 6.75 ERA during his career. Saturday he was tagged for five runs (four earned). This close behind that start, I'm looking for Sparkman to keep the Royals close in this one, and his teammates to provide the offensive spark.
They seemed to get to Odorizzi on Saturday, when he was tagged for two homers and allowed four runs to these same Royals. It was his first time allowing four earned runs in a start since April 5, and now he's pitching in Kansas City.

MLB | Phillies vs Nationals
Play on: Phillies +105 at YouWager
Dave’s Thursday Free Play:
1* on Philadelphia Phillies +105 The Key: The Phillies lost both games of a double-header to the Nationals yesterday. Now they’ll be hungry to avoid the sweep in Game 3. Nick Pivetta is 1-0 with a 2.08 ERA and 0.88 WHIP in his last 3 starts and certainly pitching well coming in. Erick Fedde is 0-1 with a 5.62 ERA and 1.44 WHIP in his last 3 starts for the Nationals. The Nationals are 1-9 in Fedde’s last 10 home starts. Give me the Phillies.

MLB | MIA vs STL
Play on: UNDER 8 -105
10* FREE MLB PICK (Under 8)
I'll take my chances here with the UNDER 8 in Thursday's action that has the Cardinals hosting the Marlins. First off, neither of these teams are swinging the bat well. Miami scored 1 run in Wednesday's loss and have now scored 1 or fewer runs in 8 of their last 13 games. St Louis only scored 2 runs in the win and are hitting .210 as a team over their last 7. Veteran Adam Wainwright will go for the Cardinals and he's 4-1 with a 2.31 ERA in 6 home starts. Zac Gallen will start for Miami and he's 9-1 with a 1.77 ERA at Triple-A this season. Give me the UNDER 8!

MLB | Twins vs Royals
Play on: Twins -183 at GTBets
1* Free MLB Pick on Minnesota Twins -183
I got no problem backing Minnesota as a big road favorite against the Royals on Thursday. Twins will have Jake Odorizzi on the mound and they simply don't lose when he's the starter. Minnesota has won 11 straight starts by Odorizzi.
That includes a recent start and win at home over these Royals last week. For the season, Odorizzi is 10-2 with a 2.24 ERA and 1.009 WHIP. Glenn Sparkman will start for KC and he's been solid of late. However, Sparkman has allowed 3 homers in his last two starts and this Twins team feasts off the long ball. Sparkman has a 6.75 ERA over five appearances against Minnesota.
Twins have won 4 of the 5 meetings so far this season. They are also 21-5 in their last 26 when coming off a loss, 26-8 in their last 34 division games and 9-2 in their last 11 vs a team that's won fewer than 40% of their games. Take Minnesota!

MLB | Rays vs A's
Play on: A's -109 at pinnacle
These two teams are heading in opposite directions as the Oakland Athletics have won six of their last eight and the Tampa Bay Rays losing seven of their last nine. I'm happy to take the hotter team at this price here in the opener of a four-game series Thursday night.
Oakland right-hander Frankie Montas (9-2, 2.85 ERA) has been excellent of late, going 5-0 with a 2.77 ERA in his past eight starts. He must feel pretty confident knowing he'll face a Rays team that opened this week by getting outscored 21-4 while getting swept over three games by the Yankees.
Tampa Bay righty Charlie Morton (8-1, 2.37 ERA) is certainly no slouch either, but he was tagged with four runs on five hits (two homers) in six innings of a 5-3 loss to the Los Angeles Angels last time out. Here Morton has to try and slow down an Oakland side that is coming off a three-game home sweep of the Baltimore Orioles during which it outscored its opponent 27-7.
Athletics are 6-1 in their last 7 games vs. a right-handed starter. Athletics are 6-1 in Montas' last 7 starts. Free pick on Oakland Athletics.
