In their last two games before the break, the Reds lost 7-2 and 11-1. In their 11-1 loss, they combined to strand 20 baserunners. Cincinnati has not recovered well in this spot. The Reds are 0-8 SU as a road dog after a home game in which their hit-to-run ratio was higher than 2.75 and they are on at least a two-game losing streak. Cincinnati lost every one of the eight games by multiple runs and the average final score was 6.125 runs to 1.875 runs.
Jon Gray is off a sub-par outing. He went five innings and allowed eight hits and two walks. Some pitchers have trouble after a poor outing and others are focused and sharp. In his career, the Rockies are a perfect 12-0 at home with Jon Gray when he is off a start in which he had a WHIP higher than 1.80.
Colorado has won these dozen games by an average of 4.58 runs.
The Rockies are also 7-0 SU with rest as a home favorite in the first game of a series when they blew a lead in their starters the last start and lost, 8-0 SU as a favorite over an NL foe after they had six or fewer team-left-on-base, and 6-0 SU as a favorite after a loss in which they never led.
The Rockies are indeed on a long losing streak, and this is giving us huge line value. They are at home and ready to start picking up ground in the NFL wild-card race. Lay the short price with a starter that will take responsibility for getting his team to 500 on the season.
