Week 6 Betting Recap

The home teams swept Week 6 in the CFL straight-up while going 3-1 against the spread. The run started Thursday night with Calgary’s 26-16 victory at home against Toronto, but the Stampeders could not cover as heavy 13 ½-point favorites. On Friday night, Winnipeg stayed perfect of the year both SU and ATS with a 31-1 rout over Ottawa as 11 ½-point home favorites.

Saturday’s action started with Montreal pulling off its third-straight upset with a 20-10 victory against Edmonton closing as six-point underdogs at home. Later that night, Saskatchewan raced past British Columbia 38-25 as a six-point favorite in the first meeting in that home-and-home series.

Game Overview

The Roughriders needed three consecutive touchdown drives in the second half of the series opener to get past BC. They also got a huge boost from Marcus Thigpen’s 100-yard kickoff return for a touchdown near the end of the second quarter.

Cody Fajardo ended the game with 278 yards passing and two touchdown throws while completing 17 of his 23 passing attempts. He also led the team in rushing with 53 yards and a score on eight carries. Shaquelle Evans caught five passes for 158 yards and one of the two scores through the air.

The total went OVER 50 points in Saturday’s loss and it has gone OVER in four of the Lions’ first six games. Their defense has allowed an average of 32.7 points in those first six games. It has given up at least 30 points in five of those contests.

Mike Reilly put up some big numbers on Saturday with 346 yards passing while completing 77.5 percent of his 40 attempts and BC added another 122 yards running the ball.

ELUSIVE RO - Nice return on investment for this jock and conditioner tandem. If this gelding gets out of the gate cleanly, he'll be tough to catch. Torres rode this thoroughbred for the initial time last time around the track and comes right back in today's race. A repeat of that recent race on Jul 19th where he notched a speed rating of 86 looks good enough to score in this affair. This gelding is in good form, having run a nice race on Jul 19th, finishing second. GETTININTOMISCHIEF - Bernal rode this horse for the initial time in the last race and comes right back in today's contest. The last time I saw this horse was at Gulfstream Park in a race with a class rating of 86. Dropping considerably in Equibase class figure this time around puts him in a solid position in this race.

TRINNI TRICKS - Doesn't appear to be in a comfortable circumstance today. SACCO AND VANZETTI - This gelding hasn't had any recent success in short distance contests. I find it hard to wager on him in this affair. COWTOWN COWBOY - The Brain always cautions me to keep away from horses in short distance events that haven't hit the board in short distance contests lately. Recorded a common speed figure in the last race in a $35,000 Maiden Claiming race on November 16th. Improbable to see an improved performance off of that number.

I think GOLD HEART EAGLE V is a very good choice. Has been travelling soundly and has among the best speed in the race for today's distance. Change in Lasix (with second time Lasix) may be the key to a reversal of fortune. Could provide positive gains based on solid recent speed figures with an average of 76. PARAMOUNTE - Could best this group of horses in this race based on the Equibase Speed Fig - 78 - of his last race. This colt looks good for this event since Gonzalez has a very solid winning percentage with horses going this distance. ONE OH SIX - Horses who have been prepared to race at this distance and surface by Stinebaugh have shown strong results recently.

My pick in this race is LADY EXPRESS. Will make a good outing versus this field of horses. This horse is prominent in this group of animals in earnings per start at the distance/surface. Must be considered given the class of races run as of late. PRAYING FOR A WIN - Could best this field based on the Equibase Speed Figure - 55 - of her last contest. HERO OF GOLD - Have to take notice when any horse makes a quick reversal of fortune. Her chances to win are much better this time out facing this softer field.
